Quebec perminently bans RHD cars

Uh oh, A bit of bad news for enthusiasts in Canada. The province of Quebec has banned the importation of registration of right hand drive vehicles over unspecified "safety issues", a move which will no doubt be a big blow to the Japanese car scene in Canada.
At the time the ban is just for Quebec, but there are worries the movement could spend to the rest of the country.
Maybe it's time for some organized opposition, just as SEMA has helped the hobbyist countless times here in the states?

If it happens here, lots of people will be getting fucked...

not really. all currently registered cars will be grandfathered through the new law. it will only ban the importation of new RHD vehicles.

if the 15 year rhd import rule stays, by then R36 will probably be out and the R34 will be as common as the current R32 that infest our streets

So... what about the RHD postal vehicles that they use in Quebec? Are they going to ban them as well?

If they could make all the douches who have RHD vehicles take some extra education on the added risks and changes they need to make to their driving style to compensate for difference like civil servants do, the law would be unnecessary.

I met this girl who had a R32 GTR, and she lives in Montreal.
Her car was impounded after she was pulled over a couple days after Quebec banned RHD cars.
That being said, I don't know how it works over there, but that seems harsh to me.

* Light vehicles imported from Japan ("Kei") were subjected to any impact test before 1 October 1998. As such, they offer the same level of safety as passenger vehicles. The SAAQ recommends caution when traveling on board a light vehicle and avoid, where possible, including public roads with posted speed over 70 km / h.

Stupid frenchies. And they think you should do 70km/h with a fucking 2CV?

Here's an idea... how about RHD licensing? Like how you have to get a motorcycle license, you need to take another test for RHD. I'm not a fan of RHD or JDM but I do like the old Brit roadsters and it would be a shame if I can't get one when I'm in my 40's...

RHD already has a special indication in the insurance policy for being RHD and I think it's getting dinged hard if you try to get comprehensive and collision coverage.

Dude, they make no sense at all. They want to split away from Canada yet not take up any of Canada's national debt and want to use canadian currency and still want to maintain all trade regulations with no taxation?
They'll support anything french, but as long as its not and its hurting their sales, they'll ban it.

Most of the rhd cars are rwd/awd, turbocharged, light weight
and usually in very good condition for their age (cheaper insurance).
Nothing in the Canadian car market compares.
I can see why the government might be under some pressure to ban these...

Which is bullshit since the Quebec report is stating that RHD cars are unsafe. If that was the cause, a total ban should've been implemented - not solely on 15 year old cars.
Sounds like the CADA has their hands all over SAAQ.
At least the French can import 89 GTRs, albeit again, in a few more years...

My car was in better condition and cost half as much as the north american counter part, and it has a better engine.

Quebec is like that annoying kid your teachers force you to play with when you're in elementary school... and they have a talk with the whole class about "including others" and don't explicitly say who.. but everyone knows who they're referring to. Looks like quebec might ruin the fun for everyone now.

Driving a RHD car in Canada (or anywhere besides England and Japan) is really stupid. I have seen a lot of them wrecked by the teenagers that somehow managed to buy them. You do 'get use to it', but in Vancouver's retarded traffic, its not the best car for a daily driver. If you do own a RHD performance car, keep it on the mountain roads where it belongs.
...that said, I simply love the GTR's. I'd probably own one if it wasn't for I could build a s chassis (and I am) to be better for the same price. You put $12-$20k into a non rusted S13 coupe, ...you have yourself a car.

Like someone said before, it's because they are teenagers. You throw them in a LHD Pontiac Firefly they'd crash anyway. :\

They are very capable vans that use very little diesel so let them be.

Oh yea of course. I bet the ratio of responsible drivers that own JDM cars is 8:2. But those 2 just fuck everything up every time.
Its all fun and games till someone get's hurt. Which I assume is the case in Quebec.

ppl drive RHD cars in LHD countries since like forever, its more like you weaksauce can't handle driving RHD car in LHD roads.
you don't see the german's banning brits from driving their RHD cars into their country. thousands of people take their RHD HK/CHINA cars and drive them daily in China.
FYI, Japan and England allows both LHD and RHD cars register legally.
