It'll be interesting to see if this bill actually passes because it might open the door for more laws to go after Marijuana.
OTTAWA (NEWS1130) - The Conservatives are poised to bring back a bill that would impose mandatory minimum sentences on people convicted of growing small numbers of pot plants. Justice Minister Rob Nicholson dropped broad hints Sunday, that the new legislation will include a mandatory six month sentence for people convicted of growing as few as five marijuana plants.
The bill will go before the Senate this week. Rallies were held in several Canadian cities Saturday, calling for legalization of the drug.

BC continues to miss out on the tax revenue and tourism possibilities the legalization of marijuana would bring.
Very disappointing. If handled correctly, Marijuana could bring a good chunk of change to our government, hopefully lowering the need for such high taxes in this province, and helping to fund currently underfunded sections like education.

Fuck the conservatives. They say it's aimed at Organized crime but that's bullshit. No grow-op run by organized crime has only 5 plants.
On the other hand, I know people who grow a few plants solely for their own personal use. They are contributing NOTHING to organized crime. These are people who live an otherwise law-abiding life.
These changes they are proposing would put them in the same league as the hard core criminals and not only is that rediculous but absolutely laughable.
I wish some of our conservative government was on that Polish plane that went down in Russia.

I would love to be able to grow legally for personal use. No more funding drug dealers pockets and we would finally see an end to Ed hardy shirts.

+1, legalizing marijuana would also bring in excuse for the government to impose heavy tax. Legalization will bring the downfall of small time drug dealers, and stop the illicit trade between Mexican drug cartels and Lower mainland gangs.

or put strict restrictions on people who get busted with houses filled with plants, and a severe penalty on re-offending
punish people who have 5 plants with 6 months in jail yet a person with a house full of plants gets the same and is back in a house full of plants 2 months later?

I'm with legalizing. I've come across too many people who have no skills or education but make shitloads of money from all the potheads of BC. Might as well have legit people growing and selling it.

By doing this they would actually be making people support organized crime. If you risk going to jail for 6 months the people that would other wise be growing a couple plants for personal use would turn to drug dealers who are linked to organized crime.
This makes no sense at all. If anything they should make it totally legal to grow up to 5 plants BUT if you get caught selling any of it you lose that right and then if you get caught growing any plants you go to jail.
