Stuff like this happens a lot more then you'd think. My buddies graphics shop in Richmond was robbed at gunpoint years ago, one friend pistol whipped, pregnant women thrown to the ground and tied up and it never made the news at all.

If no one got shot, it may not make it into the news.
This is probably more common than you'd think.
Only difference is no one posts the other ones on RS.

that just came back from the restaurant right after the incident if it wasn't for

A couple years ago this was fairly common place at a lot of the late night pho, wonton & noodle houses. I remember after a night at the club eating at the Wonton House on Cambie and the restaurant across the street got robbed while we where eating at Wonton House.

I suspect this is still fairly common place, remember, not everything gets reported on the news.

Yup very true.

My friend was at a Chevron on the weekend and it got robbed at gunpoint. Everyone was ordered on the floor, had to give up their cash. Scary stuff. You don't always hear about it, but it's happening everyday all over Metro Vancouver.

My friend was there. So yes they did get robbed, they robbed the customers too.

She lost a diamond ring, her leather jacket, keys + her purse/wallet. Apparently wearing masks and one guy had a shotgun. Supposedly they fired a couple shots in the air also.

I was on my way to pick her up from No. 9. Ended up sitting there for hours before cops would let her out.

Alot of the old chinese people were REALLY shaken up. Kind of sad actually.

Every customer's wallet, keys and other valuables + cash at the register = $1000? I don't think so!

The only person(s) who would know would be the robbers themselves (and/or the police, if they ever catch them).

that'd make sense, but i doubt the guy would just have 50,000 in chips on his body. maybe in his car, yeah

also,

"Further investigation had determined that the restaurant itself was targeted and not any specific person inside," Turley said.

Today's Ming Pao Daily newspaper featured the no.9 robbery. Front page story as well, heh.

not surprising that it made front page. asian restaurant, asian newspaper

i call bullshit ^
how fucking stupid can u be to walk out/around with 50g in chips

to be honest with you high limit players don't cash out their chips very often. i've seen it before where they just walk up to a table open their little change purse and pull out well over 5 g's in chips. they don't wanna waste time by going to the cash cage, plus if they're cashing out over 10g's they need to fill our forms and so forth and since they know they're gonna be back why waste the time

what's the approx jail sentence for armed robbery? anybody know?

looking up the Criminal Code of Canada ---> http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/ gives you:

Robbery and Extortion
Robbery

343. Every one commits robbery who
(a) steals, and for the purpose of extorting whatever is stolen or to prevent or overcome resistance to the stealing, uses violence or threats of violence to a person or property;
(b) steals from any person and, at the time he steals or immediately before or immediately thereafter, wounds, beats, strikes or uses any personal violence to that person;
(c) assaults any person with intent to steal from him; or
(d) steals from any person while armed with an offensive weapon or imitation thereof.
R.S., c. C-34, s. 302.

Robbery

344. (1) Every person who commits robbery is guilty of an indictable offence and liable
(a) if a restricted firearm or prohibited firearm is used in the commission of the offence or if any firearm is used in the commission of the offence and the offence is committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with, a criminal organization, to imprisonment for life and to a minimum punishment of imprisonment for a term of
(i) in the case of a first offence, five years, and

(ii) in the case of a second or subsequent offence, seven years;

(a.1) in any other case where a firearm is used in the commission of the offence, to imprisonment for life and to a minimum punishment of imprisonment for a term of four years; and
(b) in any other case, to imprisonment for life.
Subsequent offences

(2) In determining, for the purpose of paragraph (1)(a), whether a convicted person has committed a second or subsequent offence, if the person was earlier convicted of any of the following offences, that offence is to be considered as an earlier offence:

(a) an offence under this section;
(b) an offence under subsection 85(1) or (2) or section 244 or 244.2; or
(c) an offence under section 220, 236, 239, 272 or 273, subsection 279(1) or section 279.1 or 346 if a firearm was used in the commission of the offence.
However, an earlier offence shall not be taken into account if 10 years have elapsed between the day on which the person was convicted of the earlier offence and the day on which the person was convicted of the offence for which sentence is being imposed, not taking into account any time in custody.
Sequence of convictions only

(3) For the purposes of subsection (2), the only question to be considered is the sequence of convictions and no consideration shall be given to the sequence of commission of offences or whether any offence occurred before or after any conviction.

R.S., 1985, c. C-46, s. 344; 1995, c. 39, s. 149; 2008, c. 6, s. 32; 2009, c. 22, s. 14.

this sucks, i feel bad for whoever got robbed and the ppl who own number 9 (altho i think the owners are pretty shady themselves...but still)

with that said, why is this so shocking that htey'd pick no 9? ppl go clubbingthen immediately go to no.9. When ppl go clubbing they withdraw cash. It's also late at night, so less witnesses, visibility and police around, and on top of that, the place is pretty big - bigger than most pho places. Packed with people, packed with money.

And they are cold for robbing ppl yes, but that's cause they're loser cowards in the first place, who can't go work hard for a living and instead do stupid shit like this. I hope they get caught and jailed for the ridiculously short period of time that ppl do get in canada. Altho they're prolly minors in the first place.

Is not the processing fees is that they can avoid paying taxes. With a CC transraction they can't get away with it but with cash it is up to THEM to write how much business and earnings they do. It is very hard for the gov to check the actual numbers.
