This is the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. It's a 620HP, Nurburgring-devouring beast. Seven minutes, eighteen seconds 'round the 'Ring to be precise. It's the fastest road-going Porsche ever and exactly what all those Cayennes have been paying for.

Until now we've been clinging to the idea of the 993 Carrera RS as the pinnacle of everything that embodies Porsche. It may be time to let that idea go. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the last variant of the 997-series, is what those crazy ass-engined slot car-loving maniacs in Stuttgart are calling "the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car" ever built by Porsche. It's over 150 lb lighter than the next-rung-down GT2. The variable geometry twin-turbochargerd, horizontally-opposed six cylinder develops 620 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque with a curb weight just a tick over 3,000 lbs. That means every horsepower only has to lug around 4.8 lbs.

Those kinds of numbers mean only one thing: acceleration worthy of a Titan rocket — 0-to-62 MPH comes in only 3.5 seconds, 0-to-124 MPH: 9.8 seconds, 0-to-186 MPH: 28.9 seconds. Then everything gets hauled to a stop via carbon ceramic brakes.

Inside, there are carbon fiber seats, lighter doors and panels. There aren't even door handles for God's sake, rather "door opening straps." This is Porsche done right. Only 500 copies will be built, and with the asking price of £164,107 ($245,000) you better act fast Mr. Moneybags.

^ overkill imo.

i mean, how many would you see on the track being driven like its supposed to be driven..?

just kind of upset with the fact that majority of these cars would be showed off on the street by some rich douche lacking penis and the fact that porsche seemingly marketed this car to milk some money out of the 911 line up.

Not that I disagree with you, but we live in a world where the excess is the norm (at least to a certain extend), so by your standard, we should all be driving civics and corollas? I feel that in this day and age, it is only rational to see such an irrational car being built.

IMO, companies these days do not and can not simply target their audience on only one specific group. I'm pretty sure it's no surprise to Porsche that a portion of the GT2RS buyers will be using it as penis extenders.
Also, there is no specific definition on how we should use one product. I'm sure Porsche's design team designed the car to not only be functional, but aesthetically pleasing as well. I find it foolish to praise only a car's performance and not its heritage, aesthetics, ergonomics, personality, and many other variables that the design team also spent months and years matching and developing.

i guess the audience for these cars are kind of shifting over the years..

usually 911 owners are repeat customers, and actually enjoy these cars instead of showing off with them.

the thing that i admire the 911 the most is tradition. Porsche takes the design and keeps evoloving it, improving it, over the years... theyre stilll sticking with the base formula: Rear engine, flat six, round headlights and the traditional silhouette.

i guess current 911 buyers are different nowadays.

not that i dont like the GT2RS... but knowing these cars fates makes me sleep unwell at night. and no, this is not hate on rich people.

I think this might the last GT model that is going to come with a manual 6sp...just like the 458....dual clutch unfortunately will be the future.....

yea.. it might become less pure of an enthusiast machine..

hate to admit it.. i've driven the 2010 911 w/ pdk box... and it was slick.

Werd. That's the same exact reason why I love the 911. Porsche has managed to keep its company's tradition and heritage in its designs, yet the car doesn't feel antique. It's amazing how they have always managed to achieve that balance, since our aesthetic standards are constantly changing over the times. When you see the silhouette, you'll know it's a 911.

It's the trend in the automotive industry to attract broader audiences by changing the characteristics of its cars. Performance cars 10-20 years ago used to be so raw and only the pure enthusiasts would buy them. Performance cars today are more "user-friendly", which attract a much broader audience as planned; hence, you get those in need of an cock extension buying them.

yea.. ur right.

performance cars nowadays are more people friendly than enthusiast oriented.

at least there are people out there that still drive their 911's just because theyre, dare i say, in love with them.

i remember when i worked at weissach, an older gentleman in his late 70's early 80's, that could barely walk.. drives a pristine and mint seal grey 87' 930 turbo (no power steering, heavy clutch, all the works of an older 911). i asked him a few things here and there, yes, he owned the car since new and to this day, still in love with it.. he proclaimed "theyre not built like theyre used to be" car is detailed and waxed every year.. car is minty fresh.

fewer and fewer 911 owners are like that nowadays.. kinda sad. :(
