: Daily "super" cars

Gt-R R34

What would you guys consider as a daily driver but is more or less a super car?

Ferrari's and such are not imho. Porsches are and such, any other opinions?

My bud in hkg just bought a Maserati(after his company got acquired.) in HKG and he said so far he's daily driving it, but not sure if he should.

So we got into a discussion, and i said should of picked up a porsche.

Any other suggestions?

What's the logic behind not having those cars as DD's? Depreciate faster? Or cost arm and a leg to maintain?

To answer your question, maybe top of the line Benz and beamers?

I admire a "DD" super car. You're actually using what you've put money into. Better than being locked away in a garage for 360 days of the year. I always see a newer model Ford GT with Alberta plates in Burnaby. From the looks of it the person who owns it drives it daily. I've seen it on the highway on sunny, rainy, and even days with some flurries.

I would add aston martin, bentley GT to the list.

I think what the OP is getting at is some cars just arent made to be driven every day for over 10,000kms a year. I cant help but think real small market hand built cars would fall apart with that kind of milage. As well as some cars would be a burdon to drive that much due to ground clearance or poor visability.

I saw a guy with a Cervelo road bike on the roof rack of his 997 the other day. It was the first time I saw a roof rack on a 911, let alone a rack with a bike on it. :lol

Hmm I would think given the environment (HKG) A Maserati is not a bad choice. Because Ferrari Maserati in HK are all serviced at Ferrari repair center, so it is easily serviced locally. Nothing wrong with a V8 supercar that has A/C and nice seats with paddle gearbox in HK environment I would think? Roads are relatively nice for anything supercars come equipped with too. Maserati (I'm guessing a GT?) is also a 4 seater that fits a golf club in the trunk too....kind of nice actually for DD. Maserati Quattroporte would be a very viable choice for the rich to move around town as well....And even better in practicality.

Porsche is not bad either of course. The frunk is more sensible than most anticipates...

The only poor choice in HK is probably oil cooled Porsches for DD because of the heat they tend to overheat a lot in HK.

the 997 is not a model of porsche but rather a generation of the 911 sports car. The 997 generation of the 911 began in 2005 to present.

to the OP, i would say a decent DD supercar would be the 911 turbo. It is able to accommodate four people, has enough trunk space for a set of clubs, and is definitely fast enough to make it a worthy supercar.

It doesn't come in just a 6speed for those who prefer a more relaxing drive as well. It looks damn nice and screams Baller status.

R8 4.2 V8 is a good daily.

+1 to the turbos. 996 or 997 gen 911 turbos are comfy, easy to drive.

forget about gallardos and murcis.. not really daily friendly cars.

from what I've read on the 6speed online forums, the most commonly daily driven super cars are a lot of the Porsches, audi R8's and on the italian side the Gallardo, a lot of the Gallardo owners daily drive their cars, seems to be very DD friendly... once again this is from what I been readin over the last few years on 6 speed online.

speakin of daily driving high end cars, I snapped these sometime last year, pissing rain and this dude was just rollin! I gave him a thumbs up, was able to pass him he was going super slow, bumpy roads....

and here are some pictures I got from a 6 speed online thread, this guy actually bought winter tires because he was planning on using the Lambo all throughout winter, major props ! he said the year previous he drove it in wintertime with OEM tires it was pretty grippy with help of AWD, and with this current winter tire setup he said he had more grip with the Lambo than he did with his Ford truck!

gallardos arent that bad...... but still kinda stiff for day to day driving. the gated shifter is a bit odd, and that e-gear box is kinda clunky... not to mention blind spots...

but i guess its all in the charm of supercars.

I would say the R8, the R35, any non-GT Porsche, Gallardo, any Maserati...

In the "new" generation of DD supercars with 4 doors that I want to see on the road - Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera.

The Evora, too, though it's a 2-seater at best.

You can pretty much daily drive anything although where you live makes somewhat of a difference. A drop top or fast rear wheel drive car sucks in the rain and it rains a lot here. Of course, most of the exotics these days have a full traction control system to deal with the bad weather. You could also decide to drive slowly but might be hard if you have a heavy right foot by nature.

Most of today's supercars you can drive everyday. My uncle drives his 430 everyday that it's not raining. I was driving a gallardo for a few months last fall and it was super easy to drive. Wst6a could probably comment on the Muci since it's a different car altogether but I'm sure he'd say the same thing.

The biggest reason people don't drive supercars everyday is because it's not their only car. It's usually one of 2 or 3 cars they have. If you're looking for something quiet, comfy, roomy for groceries or whatever, driving a supercar is a pain in the ass.

The other issue is the asshole that have no respect for other people's property. Door dings etc. One time I took the gallardo to get a coffee at tim hortons and when I got back out, some asswipe left a shopping cart right next to my car. I had to move it before I could leave.

I don't know about other people but it feels weird going to do some things in an exotic. Going to Walmart in a lambo to pick up a vollyball just felt messed up.

Good daily driver supercars are not important anymore since all the big cars have crazy engines now. M5, S65, Porsche Panarama, etc. Best of both worlds although I'd rather buy a car for fun and a car for comfy everyday use for work. Being in traffic is a factor as well.

almost any mid-engine car is useless for DD, not enough storage room

at least with the 911s you get the back seats to put stuff in, the maserati 2+2 isn't that much different from the porsche in terms of layout, it's just preference

I think it depends on the driver if a car is suitable to be used as a DD or not. Some people are more tolerable for the stiffer suspension, uncomfortable ride, smaller space, and poor performance in the wet, and some aren't. DDing a sports car will be more stressful for the driver as its tires are usually lower in profile and the ride clearance is usually lower.
There are those that can't even stand driving a 6 series as a DD and there are those who wouldn't mind driving a F430 Scuderia as a DD, so I really think it depends on the driver.

First off:

1: It's to induce a topic and a discussion.
2. Suggestions are made to be heard, if you close your mind then you're just a fumbling fool living out this world in ignorance. (not directed @ you, in general. AKA the first guy who replied to my post.)
3. Doesn't mean now, future decisions can be made from what was heard earlier, brands/thoughts on cars. Not everything has to be in the moment.

I'm pretty sure if someone suggested something to you in the past, but had no use for it in the present but then in the near future, it came up and "hey this was suggested to me previously, i'll go check it out."

Suggestions aren't "MUST BUYS" if thats the case, Vancouver would have 50,000+ GTRS based on RS membership and how much love or hate and talk about the car, however you like to look at it.

Seeing that i'm replying too an offtopic now -might as well to the newb S60R, seeing you're jealous and hateful, stfu out of my thread or RS for that fact. Make stupid comments/shit up and get banned.
