A house party in South Vancouver turned deadly overnight after a fight between three teenage girls ended in a fatal stabbing.

Officers were called to a rental home near the 6600-block of Knight Street and East 51st Avenue just before 1 a.m. Friday. Police say a fight broke out between three girls in a basement suite and two ended up being stabbed.

Const. Jana McGuinness said approximately 40 drunken teens were discovered in the home.

"It was pretty chaotic when we got there," she said.

"There was kids trying to leave, there was kids all though the house, outside the house."

One victim was found outside.

"Very tragically there was a young girl dying on the sidewalk. She is 17 years old and she was lying on the sidewalk unconscious with multiple stab wounds," she said.

The girl was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Another 16-year-old victim was taken to hospital. She was treated and later released.

The suspect fled the scene. No arrests have been made and investigators have yet to put together a description or profile of the suspect.

"The case is moving forward," McGuinness said. "There are a lot of witnesses and interviews to be done," she said.

Police have not been able to get in contact with the owners of the home. It is not believed there were any adults in the residence when the party was happening.

The victim's name is expected to be released after her family has been notified.

This is Vancouver's fifth homicide of 2010.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

I can see a big lawsuit or even criminal charges coming from this. There have been previous cases of house parties where a teen has died and the parents/owners who provided the house have been deemed liable.

Vancouver Police have identified the victim in the city's 5th homicide of the year as 17-year-old Angela Qiu of Surrey.

Qui was repeatedly stabbed on the morning of May 21 at a drunken house party in the 6600 block of Knight Street.

Police were called to a rental home in the 6600-block Knight Street at about 12:55 a.m. to find the party under way and the victim lying on the sidewalk outside.

"We arrived to find a fairly large house party with at least 40 teens in the home," said police spokeswoman Const. Jana McGuinness.

"Outside, very tragically, there was a young girl dying on the sidewalk. She's 17 years old, lying on the sidewalk unconscious, with multiple stab wounds."

A second girl, aged 16, also was stabbed.

The 17-year-old was taken to hospital but died in surgery. The younger victim was treated and released.

McGuinness said there were a number of witnesses and a lot of alcohol involved.

"It was pretty chaotic when we got there," she said.

"There's kids trying to leave, there's kids all through the house, outside the house, and there's kids injured, one fatally."

Police are looking for a female suspect, McGuinness said.

"There was an altercation inside the house during the party and a female allegedly stabbed both girls," she said. "No weapon was recovered."

Police are appealing to anyone with information who has not yet been interviewed by police to contact the major crime homicide department at 604-717-2500.
