Has anyone experienced the automatic transmission failure? How much to replace?

what about the timing belt and water pump? Do we need to change it every 7yrs or 100,000KM? How much for that?

i know there was a recall for the previous generations accord for the transmission. My dads accord got a brand new transmission or a rebuilt one and honda did the install free of charge. i would call your dealer.

05 + didn't get a recall for the tranny, if it's broken, you got two options fix it for about 3k or buy a new car and sell it at a lost

I know the second generation Acura TL and second generation Acura CL both has weak automatic transmissions. Which I wont be surprised if they use the same transmission in the Accords.

My friend had a 2003 TL Type S automatic which when he bought the car, the dealer said they installed a third gen TL transmission in because the original one was blown. Apparently that will solve the problem.

wasn't there also a recall on that era of accord for a gear in the transmission (I think the actual gear for 2nd gear), it would heat up and cause premature failure? I read that somewhere, but never had the dealer say anything to me.

Your friend got ripped off, it's impossible to put a 3rd gen(04-08) tl tranny into a 2nd gen (99-03). It won't and can't bolt up, there's a lot of fab needed to put the two together. Altho they're both j32 it's a j32a4 and a a2 (iirc)

However you can get the 3rd gen tl tranny and put it in the 7th gen (03-07) accord. All you need is tranny, engine and ecu. Altho costly it's not that hard to do.

Nothing you can really do to prevent it. But you can try change the tranny fluid more often. That's what a friend that works at Burrard Acura said.

If you want durable.....swap it to a manual transmission.

Other then that. Nothing. Unless you go to the States and have a tuner shop rebuild it. But that's money and also no guarantees.

for me in winter time i change it every 5000km


summer time i change it every 10,000km-15,000km



but tats just me, is it worth it? in my opinion shifts a lot more smoothly, no grind, no pop

i would recommand anywhere from 10,000km to 20,000km

the problem with tranny is most ppl only focus on their engine, getting an oil change. And forget about the importance of maintaining a tranny

timing belt should be replaced at 168,000kms. I thought it would also be 100,000k but Honda told me the other day.
