Preparing for Mars, crew spends 520 days alone

In order to simulate the affect on astronauts the MARS500 project will mimic a real future mission to the Red planet as accurately as possible. That includes spending 520 days confined together. (May 27)

But in Jail, they get to go outside and breath fresh air, as well as to walk around in the yard. These guys will be stuck in a room not even seeing the light of day for 520 days.

you really only get one chance to set off to mars every 16yrs otherwise the distance between earth and mars is just too much. that's why they can't stay at mars for longer than 30days otherwise the earth will orbit too far away.

yeah, the toll is too much on human life to practice simulations of 520days before the actual test. U don't see people simulating jail before they go there.

The Video commentator did say, 520 days simulates the time to get there, spend 30 days there and come back.


So it takes roughly 245 days to get there, and 245 back. with a 30 day lay-over.
