Imagine a residential single lane. parking on both sides of the lane. I approach as per the diagram. Buddy opposite approaches. He has two outs. Reverse and yield to his right. I can only reverse. No space for me to yield. I motion for him to yield. He refuses.

I shut down the engine, and settle in for a long night. Load up the iphone and chat with my buddies, and take photos and videos of the opponent.

They:

1)knock on my window and yell at me
2)call me a racial slur
3)get their families to come out from the nearby house to intimidate me
4)demand me to reverse without acknowledging that we are in a deadlock
5)his wife comes out and calls me a drug dealer
says i own the road cuz i drive a luxury car.
6)stalk outside in the rain
7)turn informer sumanumanuma goin'a play em, I likey boom boom down ( they call the poe poe)

I:

1)turn off my engine.
2)take photos of them and video
3)do the finger victory sign when they shoot photo at me
4)call my friends on iphone bluetooth and chat while charging the phone and playing iphone craps and dice.
5) 20 min in I offer a truce. roll the dice on iphone. 1 is low 6 is high. lowest number has to reverse out. They tell me to fuck off.

I did everything by the book as much as possible. And staying in your car if you are safe is the best bet. However, I did walk out later to survey the scene. Also, I gave him a very good face saving option to roll the dice! Besides, I'm a big guy and he's a little guy, so no I wasn't afraid of him at all. As a matter of fact, leaving your car to confront would escalate the situation to potentially physical. I wasn't there to beat him up, I just wanted to teach him a lesson. If it costs me time to enlighten a brother, so be it!

So probably amplifying this reaction from me was that I just returned from Shanghai World Expo. People there do not understand the concept of line up and Next in line. I like your analysis and your points. now look at my facts. I was already in the turn, parked cars to my side. buddy appears from a wide turn to my left. I am now stuck in this position. Yeah, I;m an alpha, that's why I motioned for him to yield which also makes sense given the terrain. The escalation happened quickly in the next minute. The wife and driver calling me out. That helped me to solidify my position.

The OP was first in on the narrow spot (narrowed by 2 parked cars on the curb). Anybody who's local to Vancouver residential zones should understand the practice when a street is narrowed to a single lane: The vehicle first or closer to the opening gets first pass, the further one yields.
