I want a Datsun

I want a Datsun real bad

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pml/cto/1745442851.html

been talking to the guy and the car seems legit, he's also interested in trading me straight up for my 1990 b16a integra, which im considering

how hard is it to find a headlight relay? any other things you think i should be aware of?

Talk to Glen at Southside Nissan for any Datsun parts. You'll be surprised at how many Datsun parts are still available.

Please get it and save it, i've been eyeing that thing for a while. You could probably get it for less as its been up for ages. Goodluck with it, hope you get it.

That thing has been on there for at least 2 months now. I don't know why it's been on there so long but there must be something wrong with it if it hasn't sold at that price.

That being said, I wouldn't rely on it to be a daily until you can get it home and thoroughly inspect every inch of it. Headlight relay shouldn't be a big deal.

As time passes these cars are going to get harder and harder to find.
Go for it. It's not very much money, and no matter what you'll have fun building it.

good luck.

I say this car is not worth what he is asking.

He claims the car only has 26,000 original miles, yet he DD's this car.
In the pics, you can clearly see it has no plates.

Paint looks faded in the pics.

Cus its a four door if it was a two door it would be double the asking price and gone.
If you buy it I got a mean little 280z motor/trans with triple side drafts to drop into it:D

The guy's asking $3125, which is not a lot of money. So why not offer $2800?
I'm sure he's willing to take less if it's been for sale for so long.

Like Phil said, if it was a 2 door it would be selling for a lot more. The sedans have a lot of style though, and with so many performance cars in sedan form nowadays, it will fit right in.

He emailed me late last night and said he's going to write me the novel length history on the car... I'll post it up as soon as he does.

I was laughing at the 26000 miles as well... I might belive him if the odo was capable of going into hundred thousands lol

get it inspected. If it has to be air cared, check to see if the mileage matches up

I don't need air care up north :D but even if it does have 126000 I have a couple fresh datsun motors sitting in a garage just waiting to be dropped in a 510...

That car is a rip off. No way it's 26k miles. it's probably at least 126k because if like my 280z, the odo only has 5 digits. 2dr 510's are better than 4dr. and you'll need ALOT of custom work done to get that to run properly. The condition looks pretty bad. Be prepared to spend at least $5k ontop to get it running smoothly. These arent the type of cars that you can daily drive and not worry about it for 10k kms, you'll have to constantly check oil, fluids, etc etc, and expect things to break on you.

I would love a 510 however, I would gladly pay double for a 2-door.
Even by today standards, these things handle like they're on rails!

I'm cool with a 4 door, it has more room so more of my friends could enjoy riding in it :)

no rust on a datsun in the northwest? U'd have better chances winning the lottery.

My 280 was garaged for 15 years undriven and although it looked perfectly mint, once i started poking away at it with a screw driver, I had to repatch quite a bit of body panels. Even after patching + por15 + epoxy primer, it still rusts and i have to spot patch the rust spots every year. There's a reason Nissan changed there name from Datsun, because the rust problem and the name was so burned into people's mind. The most fixes under factory warranty for these cars when they were new was replace rusted body panels.

If you cant / dont want to deal with rust, dont even think about a datsun.

Same thing with older Honda's. Look at all the heavily rusted EG's and EF's. 92 and older Accords and Acura Legends...

that is exactly my biggest headache with my eg, but i saw that coming when i bought the car.

trust me, a datsun rust vs eg rust is like a nuclear bomb vs tnt. I've had both so i know the comparison. Normally you'll never need to replace a framerail due to rust on a honda, it's usually the quarter panel or edges of body panels. In a datsun u'd be laughing if it's just body panel rust.

Well if I get it it'll be an okanagan car so it shouldn't rust quite as bad... Hopefully haha

Ya I know what you mean, any car over 15years old here is going to have some rust. But, it is doable to find something with very little rust. I used to think it was near impossible to find a 4runner with barely any rust but alas I did find a 92 with the slightest bit of surface rust on the bumpers.

And ya a bit of rust is expected. Maybe I should rephrase my sentence and say that I would be looking for the one with the LEAST amount of rust:thumbsup:

BTW I might be selling my '71 Corolla for $2500 firm (absolutely, no less) this summer also. All original, purchased new by a nurse in Victoria, given to her neice in around 2005 and I bought it 2 years ago. The original owner lived less than 10km from work and always had it parked indoors (work/home). Odometer reads 68,000km (5 digit) and could be original but judging the condition, there's absolutely no way it's over 168000km.

I'm currently applying for collector plates and if it doesn't sell, I'm just going to keep it as a backup/Sunday car for <$300/yr insurance.

Have lots of pics.

10km's a day counts as a harsh operating condition. A motor operating under such conditions would have major carbon buildup and the rings bearings and such would show considerable wear compared to one driven more frequently and at hwy speeds.

I agree. I'd rather buy a 150,000km/5 year old car than one with 15,000km.

I can't tell, is that a standard?

And to the OP I would go check it out for you but I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable doing it, too much riding on my analysis haha.

Yeah, it is. Saw a couple of years ago and have never seen a generic one or one with a Toy on it.

just be prepared to spend $$$ on the car. like lots of $$$, even if you have spare 510 engines just sitting around...

or be prepared to spend a lot of time and effort into getting it into reasonable condition.
