It gets bigger and bigger each year, some ridiculous cars, most done out nicely but some are really extreme. I know there's a lot of haterade towards the HellaFlush style, but this is no fad fellas

^ yea he's been updating us on the forum of his progress, fresh paintjob and body kit, he finished the car just in time for the show, he nicknamed it Shrek. It's the color code from the lime green Porsche GT3 RS
and yea Flush IS a lifestyle down but to the haters this is always gonna be labeled as a "trend",
Yea they roll hard in Cali, but they roll even harder in Texas, super nice roads thanks to oil money
here's a few guys from Texas and this is their daily driving height, dudes are on coilovers... I wish we had roads here like that

Wonder how fast he can take the bumper off and put it back on now.
I'm sure he carries electric tools in his car and just zips off a few bolts, screws and clips..

I just think it's form over function because they are stretching narrow tires over wide wheels to achieve a look.
While the function purists will want the properly sized tires for the application to maximize cornering grip.
Oh well what do I know.

function over form as as in :
a car that can function and perform well over a car with ridiculous wheels, ride height and camber for looks, form.
He's saying some of those cars looks ridiculous, thus function > form
maybe I am wrong and he actually means form>function

Taking the white accord that has to remove it's bumper to enter it's driveway as an example. Isn't that taking it too far just to have the "look"? The function of a driveable car is somewhat taken away. I know some of us who like to "slam" their car change the way they drive and where and where not to go. As said earlier in this thread, it is a lifestyle.
To some of us, vehicles are just a mode of transportation, others a hobby/sport as well as a lifestyle.
I think with HellaFlush, it has become a lifestyle.
I highly doubt some of those cars are "used" to their full potential to match their aggressive stances. But if they are, that would be awesome.
Mind you I do love the look but some are taking it too far.
What does the RS community think?

well you don't see those cars hitting track right? I honestly don't mind the looks, and I think they are pretty damn sexy except some retarded overdone ones. In terms of respect though, I have way more for those who take their cars to the track and drive to the fullest potential.

It gets bigger and bigger each year, some ridiculous cars, most done out nicely but some are really extreme. I know there's a lot of haterade towards the HellaFlush style, but this is no fad fellas
Of course it's a fad. I give it less than two years before nobody's doing it anymore because someone's come up with something even sillier than putting on tires that are too narrow for the rims (or rims that are too wide for the tires, as the case may be).

By hitting the gas pedal.
If you didn't know, the rear wheels don't turn, so as long as they clear the fenders going up/down, you're fine. Cars camber in when the suspension compresses anyways, so you get even more clearance.
As for the front, this is why you roll/pull/newspaper roll/stretch and do whatever to get it to clear.
The concept isn't that hard to follow.

A few guys installing car parts improperly is not a fad.
A WHOLE BUNCH of guys doing it and having commercially-sponsored gatherings dedicated to showing it off just for the sake of showing it off, is a fad.
Vans with airbrushed paintings of naked chicks and unicorns. Sports cars with flames on the sides. '70s ocean liners with airbags and their drivers seeing who could make them bounce the highest. CB radios and calling everyone you knew "good buddy". Riceburners with C-130 wings bolted to the trunk.
All were around for a long time before they became "the current fad". All had their time in the spotlight, where everyone thought it was "the greatest thing that will never go away". All of them DID go away, or returned to their relatively obscure niches. And all had a few guys still doing it long after everyone else either smartened up, or moved on to something gaudier.
Undersized tires on oversized rims is no different. It's a fad, and it WILL eventually fade into obscurity, just like all the others. I give it less than two years before something sillier pushes it out of the spotlight.

It has been around for 4+ years already, its not going anywhere. As long as people keep buying wheels/tires its not going to be a fad. The mentality of buying wheels is totally different now. Besides Vancouver will never fully embrace it so you don't have to worry about it.

Like I stated earlier, it's been around for Decades.
HellaFlush has only been in the spotlight for the past few years when Drifting took the spotlight. People have been doing this LONG before that.
The 70's in Japan saw Bosozoku styled cars with thier wild body mods and 40ft tailpipes that almost doubled as a wing. While most of them looked different, the only one thing that was common on all of the cars were the wide wheels+skinny tires. Most of the Bosozoku cars had huge fender flares, and they all figured out the need to fill those in with ridiculously wide rims. Something that Honda guys didn't get until just recently.
They've also been doing this for even LONGER in Europe. Just like our laws that still stick today, is the fact that your tires CAN NOT stick out past any portion of the fender. So to rebel against that, they used wider rims that stuck out past the fender, with skinnier tires that remained tucked under the fenders. Just look at the Dubbers that have been doing this on thier GTI's/Jettas long before rice became a fad in the Import Crowd. Staggered offset wheels with RWD offsets on a FWD car.
It didn't even really start as a "hellaflush" thing. That term was coined by the Fatlace guys a couple years ago, but people have been doing this wayyyy before then. Look at all of the old school cars with Fender Flares or any kind of Wide Body modifications. Car guys around the world, Import, Euro, Or Domestic have been pushing the limits of how wide of a wheel/tire combo they can fit on thier car. The only difference between each is the style, but the idea has always been the same. Huge wheels, skinny tires.
Lowriders, Drift Cars, Euro, Muscle Cars etc. Same idea. Different style.
Still popular this entire time.
Muscle car guys prefer wide rims+ even wider tires.
Dub Style guys prefer HUGE rims on a low profile tire
Drift cars prefer huge dish/Concaved rims

Drift cars prefer huge dish/Concaved rims
etc etc.
The shoes make the man, the wheels make the car.
So Sorry Soundy, you're wrong.
Spugen is right... when I went to a shop asking for fender rolling and such, these OG guys told me they used to do it in the 70s. They were already into the wider rims and stretching tires before most of us are even born!! They said they didn't have the option of rims like us, so they would weld two steelies together and put stretched tires and rolled the fenders for hellaflush and even hallapoke styles... we are just bring back the past.. like how those people are so into RETRO styles...

^ I just don't get it, you defy all logic when you tell us this is a fad that will only last for the next 2 years, but it's been going on for decades already. Still... in your infinite wisdom you have chosen a 2 year expiry date.... and the cherry on the cake is that you gave a very short expiry date on something that literally just picked up steam in the last few years and is just gaining huge momentum
I respect other people's opinions and all, but when someone is so ridiculously out of touch with reality and fact, you can't say much. Enjoy these though, look even Accords are getting in on the action

READING FAIL

Looking at the pictures, they all look the same.
So I would like to do something similar, but I usually have 4 or 5 people in the car. 3 in the back of my Accord sedan.
Won't the fenders rub on the tires for these cars if there are 3 people in the back or you have something heavy in the trunk?
If so, how would you fix that in my situation?
Also, how comfortable is the ride? Is it bumpy as hell? I want to maintain some comfort..
!Aznboi128
06-18-2010, 06:16 PM
I have an accord on tein ss lowered to the lowest settings and it's still a smooth ride, my fenders has all been rolled my rear bumper tab has been moved back, rear bumper shaved to fit the wheels (18x8 -35offset)
when I have just me and my girlfriend in the car no problems. However when I have 1 more in the back I scrape going everywhere.
so if you want to be hellaflush, you need stiff suspension if you want to carry people. If you got tein ss (even on the hardest settings) it's still comfortable but just not drivable.
consequence from being low and stupid bumper tab....

HellaFlush vs VIP?
Wheels look straight, VIP have more negative camber?
Is that the point of Flush?
VIP is "Hellaflush" on a 4 door Luxury Sedan.
And as for Comfort?
I had tons of comfort.
About as much comfort as any car with low profile tires and coilovers.
The height makes no difference on comfort when you're on coilovers. You're always gonna have the car at that stiffness level no matter what the height.
Stretched tires don't make a difference on Comfort. So the tire is stretched. So what? My ass feels maybe the slightest bit more of the road since I have higher tire pressure. The difference is so insignificant, it doesn't matter.
Fact:
My SC that was slammed on H&R C/O + 235/40/18 / 255/35/18 was still more comfortable than my friend's SW20 with Ohlins, and standard 225/50/16's at a 1 inch drop.
His car feels EVERYTHING on the road. Every pebble, twig, and grain of sand. Might be a spring rate issue.
My car felt some things on the road, but it still retained it's Lexus boat comfort.
Yeah, sometimes when you forget about a pothole, you're gonna feel it, and some wind is gonna get knocked out of you, but other than that, it's perfectly fine. Just find another route that isn't Kingsway.
I don't know why people are questioning comfort. It sound like you've never driven a car with any suspension mods. Even Lowering springs are gonna make the ride harsh. Anytime you play around with Spring Rates/Damper settings it's going to affect the OEM ride comfort. But the same set of coilovers are going to feel the exact same on the same car. Hellaflush or not.
Just do yourself a favor and don't get a shitty set of Dampers that aren't Valved for the Spring rate you're running.
Like:
All those cheapos running Lowering Springs on Stock Shocks.
All those cheapos running Blown Coilovers. KW/Bilstein/Ohlins/Aragosta/HKS/TEIN/Apex'i/Tokico/Koni/Whatever. Blown is blown.
All those cheapos running Megans/K Sport/ BC Racing/ whatever knockoff shit you guys buy. Same Factory does not = Same product. Get your Dampers Dyno'd (Yes, There are Shock Dynos) and see if it's even matched for your Springs. $100 says Any of you running Coilovers by any of those knockoff brands aren't.
BUT. If you're not talking about actual Comfort level, and you're talking about comfort in general... There's almost no Difference. You might need to drive slower, but that's not exactly Detrimental is it?
We're not building Track cars here guys.
besides, comfort is a subjective and personal matter. what might be comfortable for one, might not be for the other. i used megan racing on my car because they were the only coilovers available for the car, and i ran 225/35 stretched on 9.5s and if felt no different from when i used to run eibach lowerings and 245/35 on 8.5wide. the car felt heavier, that's all.
comfort? maybe you need a better driver's seat with massagers lol :D
people question comfort because of the bumpy-ness and stiffness of the ride on hellaflushed/vip'ed cars, but what about all those people running racing seats like bride or recaro? isn't being cramped in a tiny seat even less comfortable?
I'm going to go ahead and say it. I hate the name. "Hella flush" in my mind sounds like some stupid bboy underground dance-off phrase, somewhat along the lines of the same idiots who came up with the phrase "Oh, snap!" (white boy skaters?).
I would be personally embarassed to say the phrase "Hella flush" in person. I'm sure many people do, even. If anything, I'd whisper it, or say it so quickly as to minimize the embarassment of saying such a hideously awful term.
All that aside, I think the cars look great. It just needs a new name.
Don't get me started on "Murdered out" and "hard parking"....

Thanks for the comments guys. That Charger SRT is nice!
cvm I was wondering what happened to my SC400! I hear you it became such a pain to drive because of how low the kit was sitting. Not a good DD. Is it around the lower mainland still?
I really miss my RL. It was sitting on Anceltion coilovers and Wed Kranze Rapier. Sold it to get an F50 and haven't got the stance going yet.

Defining Hellaflush
Submitted by mark fatlace on May 11, 2010
So I think it’s about that time of year when we define what Hellaflush it. People ask us all the time what it is so for those of you that don’t know, the Hellaflush Term was coined by our friend Jerry. He called out our drift cars, which back in 2004, were mimicking Japanese drift car style. The style was kitted and slammed with baller 3-piece step lip wheels. The Japanese drifters had offsets that were very close to their fenders which was achieved by aggressive offsets and stretching tires. We didnt have a word for it so he said the word “Hellaflush” and the term was coined.
Mitsuru Haraguchi’s Badass FC. Probably the lowest and one of the baddest drifters of them all.
http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/bnharaguchirbak_212_445-570x426.jpg
The URL was purchased late in 04 and was all about our friends cars, cars we’ve seen around town and in our travels to Japan. From Ziptied to Logan’s blog, it was like a secret society but obviously the movement of getting the right offset for cars has exploded thru the years. We were doing agressive offsets before Hellaflush on our Audis and VW’s. I had a site called Audiwerks in 1999 and we really pushed the limits of offsets on our cars.
Today, alot of other sites have popped up like Stanceworks and Slamburglars in 09 to the newer sites like Canibeat, Stance:Nation and everyday more are putting their twist to the term. I could say it’s a trend but more and more OEM companies like BMW have been offering really good offsets with suspension to match. It’s only about time til when the other manufacturers catch on and the style will be seen in everyday cars. If that happens, our job is done, we’ll be happy and will probably have caught onto another style of tuning and Antonio Alvendia of Motormaven’s can rest a happy man. He’s another guy that’s been pushing Zero Offset from the beginning of time.
Sure there’s alot of hate out there. If there wasn’t hate, we wouldnt be doing it, right? I had an Evo in 05 with 18×9.5 +12′s and the entire Evo forum community tripped out (minus the guys that knew what was up from seeing the Japan Time Attack Evo’s). Today, 18×9.5′s +12s are the first things that come to mind when looking for wheels for an Evo. (Well, for those that know.) The Wrong Fitment forum was born due to the fact alot of the Subaru community didn’t understand what was going on. There’s still a big debate til this day on the Nasioc forums.
The evo

Anyways, here’s our definition of what we’ve been pushing and enjoying for a little over 6 years. First of all, It’s not suppose to be MEGA SERIOUS. It’s a movement that we and alot of people ENJOY and have FUN with. From the Meets to the people, it’s all fun. Not everyone has money for $5k rims so people work with what they have and can afford. It’s not about supporting the FAKE ASS WHEEL company but its more about being apart of the movement. The rules are simple. Hellaflush / Flush, Superdumped, or Poke/Mexi pretty much define it. To achieve anyone of these deals with math. So if you’re good at it, you can achieve greatness. Jay Pizarro is one of the guys that taught me a few things about offsets and you can see right away from his builds he knows what he’s doing.
http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/hellaflush1.gif
Hellaflush. To have your car slammed to the point where your Rim barely clears your rear fender. A decent amount of stretch tire and when rolling on the street, NO RUB. Drifting while Hellaflush is probably the best feeling out there. You know your car not only looks good but with good drifting style (even if its in the parking lot) produces great photos. Ask the Risky Devils guys, ask the Driftunit Kids, ask Team Kamikaze. It’s all win. Flush is achieved by not being super dumped. Alot of daily drivers that think they’re Hellaflush, are usually Flush. It’s a fine line.
2 examples of Hellaflush. An older Risky Devil Car.

http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/superdumped2.gif
Superdumped / Tucked. Usually cars with bags can achieve 2 looks (err 3 if you consider 4×4 one). They can adjust their ride height with the touch of a button. They can go from being Hellaflush to Tucked in about a second. Most people that see photos on our site that are Superdumped or Tucked wonder why they’re on this site. Well, if you read this definition, you’d know why. Again, math kids. Math.
slammed

http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/poke1.gif
Poke / Mexi-Flush. There is no excuse for having cars POKE unless you’re really going for this look. Most cars that do poke KNOW they’re doing it and they LOVE it. You don’t have to tell them. They haven’t missed the beat, they want the style or have plans for a major fender pull or over fenders. Im a huge fan on this style on VW’s and love seeing it on certain cars. Mexi-flush (we didnt make this word up) is a bit more exaggerated in the rear but you get the idea. USUALLY, all 4 wheels are poking out which is a bit weird but works on certain styles of cars.
http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/pokevw-570x377.jpg
Again, this isn’t suppose to be too serious. These are just words that are used to describe the styles of cars we see on the road today. There are tons of other words like stance, sunken, static, etc etc.. but really we’re all shooting for one goal and that’s to make our cars look as dope as possible. Some people don’t get it, some people do and really, its all a matter of taste. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Hellaflush in the past and present and to all the bloggers who make it happen.

Only one problem with Haraguchi's car.
That thing sucked while drifting, but looked fucking awesome while it sucked. The other factor was that it was a FC, and it was constantly spin happy.
He also worked on spacing the subframe so that the Chassis sits higher, but all that he was left with was a car that had to be even lower just to achieve the same stance. It didn't handle any better, but he did save his framerails.
Not exactly a Drift Legend, and definitely not the best driver. He was however, the guy who had the most badass looking car, and worked hard to make the car work with his style. He "got better" when he raised his car a bit. Which is why you don't see the Pros having cars that look anything CLOSE to his FC.
Except for maybe Matt Powers.

Car looks different now, but he's one of the very few who made it work. If he raised it a bit, he would probably stop crashing and breaking things.
Then there's Tommy Roberts and Justin Pawlak.
I'm pretty sure Matt daily drove the S14 at that height for a few years at that height too. SO there you have it. Daily driveable, and works on the track. Hate on, haters.
i've always thought this cressida drifter is pretty cool and hellaflushed

The OG Hella
This is for you people that think the word “HELLA” started in Northern California. The first time I came across the word was during a trip overseas in the 80′s. I would see cars with either Hella or PIAA covers over their fog lights. I think it was the cool thing to do with cars back then so I bought a pair.
These days you rarely see fog light covers on street cars unless they’re on some outdoor type suv or weekend rally car. Anyways, check out this might flush Action Express Racing Cayenne powered Daytona Prototype rocking some Hella lights.
http://fatlace.com/hellaflush/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/actionexpress-570x369.jpg
HELLA Lights started in 1899. Yes, 1899. The word HELLA was used for their first headlights in 1908. Crazy right? Here’s another from Brumos.
