Anyone heard the news on this? My mom told me about it today. I heard a grad class in cali had a grad trip that was here, and one of the kids fell off the bridge infront of everyone else and died on impact.. thats really horrible and tragic.. They should really do something about that stupid bridge and make it more safe. Or just close it down, this cant be the first time someone has died on it.

they had it wrong it was actually a group there for a band trip. there was about a 4ft. fence that he was leaning on and he fell over it.. but apparently the fence is perfectly fine so they think he must have tried climbing it and fell off.

I've heard of a mother dropping their infant off the bridge before. Baby miraculously survived though.

Wow. Really?

First, it wasn't the bridge itself the idiot fell from, it was a viewing platform on the other side.

Two, have you ever actually been to the Capilano Suspension Bridge? Do you have any idea how safe it is or isn't, or are you just talking out your ass?

A quick Google search shows *NO* other reports of deaths or even serious injuries on or around the CSB. The only other "incident" even involving people was the woman who dropped her baby from the bridge in 1999, and the baby had only minor injuries.

You want to get self-righteous about something, go picket the area around the Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, where a half-dozen tools off themselves every year diving in the river's pools and rapids and falls.

The cap suspension bridge is about as far from a suspension bridge you can get. It doesn't fucking move or sway or bounce or anything its rigid as fuck. Go to Lynn Canyon.. THAT'S a good suspension bridge. The only way you can fall off the Cap one is to be doing something really fucking stupid and in that you deserve what you get.

Why do people say RIP?

If I was doing something retarded and got killed, I know I don't deserve other people's respect or pity. Hell, I probably deserved to die.

Only people that we should be saying RIP is to war veterans, fire fighters and uncorrupt police officers who died in the line of duty.

If you f*ck around and get killed, then so be it. Don't be a retard and you probably won't die. Simple as that.

And I've been to CBS many many times. There's no way you can fall off from the bridge or the viewpoint....... UNLESS you were doing something stupid.

Don't be a hero and did I mention? Don't be a retard? ;)

Are you fucking serious? The bridge is so far from dangerous. You have to be monumentally stupid to fall off of it. Nearly every safety precaution is taken with that bridge. There's a huge fence that is REALLY HARD to fall off of unless you happen to be 12 feet tall and have a higher center of gravity.

It's like trying to kill yourself with...a hockey puck. You probably CAN...but it isn't easy.

While I feel for the family and friends of this individual, what he did was outright stupid. As has been stated, one word truly describes it. Darwinism.

If you're stupid enough to disobey the signs and warnings that are PLASTERED ALL OVER THE FUCKING PLACE at that bridge and "park" then anything that happens is purely of your own fault. Choosing a RAINY, WINDY DAY on top of all other circumstances just further iterates the stupidity of the actions of the individual. I'm sorry, but if you have a brain cramp and something like this happens, there's not much else to say.

Sure, we all make mistakes, and sure, we all may or may not escape those mistakes unscathed. Hopefully this serves as a lesson/reminder to other individuals out there that stupid is no way to go through life.

PS. RIP, only because of what the family will be going through.

Meh, people always makes these stupid throw away comments like the "darwin" awards and "they deserved to the die" etc. because they are emotionally removed from the event. Sure it was as stupid thing to do but it does not justify the individual dying.

Think about it people, imagine your sibling or close friend dying as a result of a mistake, and then have people just make these stupid throw away comments like it was nothing.

There's a difference in how people die that relegates how one is respected or pitied out of it.

Some people tragically die out of accidents at no fault of their own, but what would you do if you some dumb kid is doing the following, for reasons of purely just youthful abandon.

* Driving recklessly at highspeeds in traffic; weaving and overtaking using the opposite lane.
* Kids who dangle and goof around @ 500 ft in the air.

If you still want to respect them and give them all your pity, then all the power to you. If it happened to anyone in my family, I'd be highly disappointed in their actions.

It's really more of "what do you expect."

* If you're going to tempt fate by goofing around at those heights...
* If you're going to push 200kms per hr for the sake of exhileration...
* If you're going to OD on coke for the sake of a party...

What else can you say one deserves other than what they got? You're making it seem like dodging bullets should be a given privilege and the event of one failing to do so is a tragedy.

As many others have pointed out, CSB is as safe as it can get so that kid at that age must have really gone that far out of his way to put himself in harm.

I never said anything about this being a tragedy. Don't put words in my mouth.

By saying this kid "deserved to die" is like saying that if he somehow miraculously survived this fall that he should be put to death anyways because that's the penalty for horseplay around a cliff railing.

In case you missed it the first time, I'll repeat myself. "He may not deserve pity" hell, I don't pity him.

No foul play in Suspension Bridge death

METRO VANCOUVER/CKNW AM 980
Jordan Armstrong | Email news tips to jordan.armstrong@corusent.com
6/9/2010

We may never know exactly why 17-year old Daniel Cho fell to his death at the Capilano Suspension Bridge over the weekend.

RCMP Constable Michael McLaughlin says in spite of all the witness interviews and surveillance tape, the final moments were not captured.

Police say they have established that Cho got onto the barrier by his own power.

What his intent was is unclear.

Mclaughling says the teen had earlier been seen going over similar barriers in a different location and had been warned to stop.

The police investigation has now wrapped-up.

McLaughling commenting on this story is just so lol :haha:

Whats depressing is i read some comments hating on Canada about how we were handling the story (on news1130) citing the c'est la vie attitude and trying to blame the guy instead of the conditions or the park... like wtf -_-

feel sorry for his family though

Yes, it's the park's fault for not having 15' high brick walls around everything.

Or maybe for letting the idiot in in the first place.

LSD ruled a factor in Capilano bridge death

CBC News
A B.C. Coroner's report ruled LSD was a contributing factor in the death of Daniel Cho, 17, who died after falling from a bridge viewing platform in June. (Jonathan Hayward/Canadian Press)
An American high school student who fell to his death in June at the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver was high on LSD, according to a B.C. Coroner's report.

The report determined LSD was a contributing factor in the death of Daniel Cho, 17.

Cho, from San Mateo, Calif., died on June 6 after climbing over a 1.2-metre-high railing at a viewing platform and falling 30 metres to his death.

Cho's death, ruled an accident, was due to multiple injuries sustained in the fall. The coroner found there was no evidence Cho intended to harm himself.

The report also found Cho had previously been caught by a school chaperone climbing over a railing into an out-of-bounds area.

The music student from Aragon High School was in Vancouver as part of an exchange trip with students from Killarney Secondary.

According to the report, Cho and two other students took LSD on a bus ride from Seattle to Vancouver.

Chaperones had noticed the three students behaving strangely and had informed a teacher, who intended to talk to the students at their hotel after the trip to the bridge

Told ya so. Why people felt sorry for this genius is beyond me.

It's like having a guy say "Hey guys! Let's go drop acid and then try to play pattycake with some fucking tigers!" and then everyone blames the tigers.

hey everyone!! lets go dig up his body and leave it on his parents lawn because he took LSD he desrveeddd ittt ARGHH!!!!!!

Well, no...his parent didn't make him a fucking idiot. He played with fire...he got burned. Simple logic dictates that he got what was coming to him.

physic's final question for the class:

If the student was 70kg and he fell at the gravitational force of 9.8m/s how long would he take to reach the bottom of the capilano bridge?

hey everyone!! lets go dig up his body and leave it on his parents lawn because he took LSD he desrveeddd ittt ARGHH!!!!!!

The reason why everyone keeps saying he deserved it is because of the knee-jerk reaction that stupidity has "almost" affected everyone.

In addition to the lady that dropped her baby on the bridge, it had everyone discussing the safety of the site and a contingent of people was proposing to increase fence and railing heights well above an average person's height. (Which of course destroy's the novelty of "the suspension bridge" and one of Vancouver's trademark tourist site)

Point being that unless you take LSD and "purposely" fuck around, The Capilano Suspension Bridge is a safe attraction and there is no need to beef up safety features like a Mental Institution Padded Room.

All in all, it's just to keep the "knee-jerk-sudden-know-it-alls" in check. Kind of like the contingent of impromptu engineers that thought they could've designed a better Olympic Louge Track that killed Nodar Kuravitashvili. Or the people who freaked out Canada spent $35 million on the new F35's.

If the student was 70kg and he fell at the gravitational force of 9.8m/s how long would he take to reach the bottom of the capilano bridge?^ Final velocity is independent of the mass of the body. It has to do with aerodynamics (drag coefficient) of the body and the distance fallen. Without the distance given, you can't solve for time.

And it's 9.8 m/s^2. ;)

Sorry I couldn't resist. :D

its 70 meters LOLOL finish the equation!Sure. vf^2 = vi^2 + 2ad. We'll use 9.81 for gravity.

vf^2 = 0^2 + 2(9.81)(70) = 1373.4. Solve for vf = 37.0594m/s.

Since vf = vi + at, t = (vf - vi) / a, or 37.0594 / 9.81 = 3.777s. :D Of course, this is assuming there's no aerodynamic drag.

Once you add aerodynamic drag, you start bringing calculus into the formula. Since drag Fd = 1/2(rho)(U^2)(Cd)(A) you'd need more information such as the drag coefficient of the body, as well as the cross-sectional area. This would give you the acceleration as a function of time ie a(t). Integrate twice to get the distance as a function of time, then solve for 70m. ;) I admit I'd have to dig up my fluids textbook to solve this. It's actually a bit tricky because you are using a function of time (velocity) to solve for acceleration (also a function of time).

Maybe I should go to sleep.
