Tancharoen sat down for an interview with Collider earlier today, and spoke about how the short film was made, and what he hopes to do with it now he's got the internet's attention.

"It took over a two-month span of time", he told the film website. " I shot this whole thing in two days on two Red cameras that were donated to me with a group of friends who all believed in the cause."

"It all started at the beginning of April and it took two months to do all the post and the editing. I edited it myself and the visual effects were great people donating their time. It turned out to be pretty awesome. I was very, very happy about it."

While confirming that it was a personal project, and had zero involvement or blessing from Warner Bros. (who now own the Mortal Kombat rights), Tancharoen does say it was made with the intent of getting a Mortal Kombat movie off the ground, with him as director (he's had experience with...Fame).

Well this was just a sample of what the director could do. Probably most if not all of this teaser wouldn't even make it into the real movie, but I'm definitely stoked with his vision of how he plans to make this movie! If they make it too mystical it will come off super cheesy like Baraka coming in through a portal and growling or whatnot ...

I think MJW is a great actor and he should definitely be cast in more roles! At least one role I can think of off the top of my head is Mr. T in that new movie A-Team ... Rampage is lame!

So much for the proposed Mortal Kombat remake that Warner Bros. Pictures had hoped to get off the ground. Still, fans of the bloody battle are in for a treat as Bloody Disgusting learned that director Kevin Tancharoen - who directed the awesome online short - will return behind the camera for a 10-episode web series dedicated to the popular video game. Penned by Tancharoen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing, star Michael Jai White leads the cast as "Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs. Shooting will take place in Vancouver this coming February. Contested expected to be cast are: Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and of course Scorpion. No release date is planned, and there's no word on that R-rated remake. The only plot details we could conjure up is that a few Earthlings will fight to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, two Gods ruling over parallel universes, or something to that effect.
