KELOWNA, B.C. — A man from the B.C. Interior city of Kelowna who was disowned by his mother as a teenager is now being sued, at age 46, for parental support.
Ken Anderson, along with his three siblings, said each could face payments of $200 to $300 a month to support his mother, despite the fact that Anderson's parents abandoned him at age 15 to move to another region of B.C.
"They left and I had to stay here and provide (for) myself so I had to quit school and go to work," Anderson said.
B.C.'s parental support law is part of the Family Relations Act, and says a child is liable to maintain and support a parent, who may be dependent because of age, illness, or economic circumstances.
Anderson and his wife Sherry now run a logging truck business. Sherry has become her husband's legal representative and devotes her time to trying to navigate the system.
The family has had to deal with mountains of paperwork for the past decade.
Anderson's mother doesn't even know his two teenage children, he said.
The law does not take into account a child's upbringing or family history, but they are still determined to fight it, Anderson said, because they simply don't have the financial means to make the payments.
Anderson said the case will go to trial in August. Neither Anderson's mother or her lawyer could be reached for comment.

Incompetence, greed, shamless.. pick your poison, cause this bitch has it.
Kicked out at 15? Fuck, if I was kicked out at 15 and had to fend for myself, and even survived, my parents would be dead to me.
Being in criminology, I'm going to predict the court will tell this bitch to fuck off and diaf.

Sounds like my buddy.... He got kicked out at 15 by his step mom. At one point in the winter when he was living on the streets he went by his dads house just to ask for a blanket to borrow. His dad was gonna give him one but his step mom told him to fuck off.
Fast forward 16 years. Step dad runs into bad financial times. Loses his house. Guess who is the only one to offer him, his step mom, and 2 brothers a place to live?
They almost went broke trying to support 2 families. My buddy at one point mentioned this to his dad and told him he needed to find work so he could at least help pay some bills. Step mom said "YOU ARE JUST STILL MAD ABOUT THE PAST!" This is after for the past 2 months my buddy and his wife had been sleeping on the couch and letting his dad and step mom use their bed.
Funny thing is he never really knew his half brothers. Now that they actually realize what happened in the past they have pretty much stopped talking to their mom.

I'm sure it wasn't a "legal" disowning as much as it was just plain old abandonment.

That is fucked up. Your buddy is indeed a tough cookie, most would probably be living down at hasting if they were in his shoes. Give him a pat on the back on behalf of RS.
