Fuck that is just nasty.

These items have tons of preservatives to keep them "fresh", so when such items go bad, you KNOW they've been out way too long!

Do you expect them to go to every store every week and check every item.

I also don't see what the big deal is about the mold. You see the mold, tell someone at the store, they take it off the shelf end of story.

:drool:drool:drool:drool:drool

Or the packaging was damaged in some way causing the mold.

Maybe not the City, but the staff there should be doing it. Why are we doing their job?

yes i do, like they do in other cities, some cities, you have to post health inspection results on the main door ,so people walking in could see if u , passed or conditional pass. if companies know that they have to post results, they themself would be more proactive about it.

besides, these were clearence items, therefore somebody had to look at them , see the date, and stamp for clearence.

A remember a local news story from a couple years back ,where they went around to different stores and checked expiry dates. They said there is no law that requires product to be removed on or after they expire, selling moldy product may be different though.

it may seem like a small problem if the mold happened on just one or two packages. However, there were more aside from the clearance section. That being said, multiple molding on packages 1-2months away from its EXP date just doesnt seem right.

damages to the package? sure. But nearly the whole entire section?

this is pretty common.

It's a best before date it does not mean the product is no good after the date.

Couldn't you buy that, "eat " some of it, and then start a lawsuit since they sold you bad food?

safeway is garbage. they sell what everyone else sells but for double the price.

save-on-food and costco are much better if you want better meats.

walmart, pricesmart and superstore if you want cheap.

This came up recently becuase of olympics.vch, said they don't have enough inspectors to handle vancouver. In toronto, grocery, corner, rest.don't have a inspection schedule.inspectors randomly inspect sites and post results in the window.places that get conditional pass, as a result of the sign, lose customers. Ie.lowblas that was forced to shut down in TO.I remeber when I was in TO,they shut down 6 chinese rest. In toronto china town in a single day.

Lies... Went to the SFU farmers market last summer and you should see some of the shit they tried to pass off as "fresh" produce.
I can tell you from experience, farmer's markets only sell "local" produce when local is in season, ie june to september, weather permitting. And even then, because of cost of operations, imported veggies from Calif can at times be cheaper than locally grown veggies.

how about try buying grocery at TnT ? I see more traffic in TnT supermarket compare to most of the safeway, save-on food...

I would think the more busy a supermarket it , more ferquent they replenish their stock

T&T cuts off old parts of lettuce/cabbage and sells as fresh... ever since that day, I only buy shit that won't go insanely bad from them (VITA lemon tea/snacks)

eww...... which safeway?

kingsway by 7-11.. it' on the first page man...

T&T is a bit more honest about it. They have a rack full of old, spoiled produce that they sell "as is" in the corner. I don't even want to look over there although I do imagine the sort of people that would make a purchase from it.

How much of a cheapass do you have to be to buy spoiled food?

T&T actually generally has good quality produce at fantastic prices. I don't buy much else there. But I can't complain at all about their fruit and veggies.

And yeah I can't imagine who would buy the rotting crap either. That's sad. :(
