Motorcycle Craigslist Scam

So heres the story:
There was this ad for a 2006 R6 for 4500obo with no accidents, clean title, and 14k km. It sounded like a such a deal so I'm like fk why not...i'll get a bike again.

So I emailed him a few times and we eventually talked on the phone. This was on tuesday night...he said that he just moved back to vancouver from kelowna, so he's riding the bike down on thursday. I told him that I'll be there on thursday to check out the bike and buy it off him right away if it's completely fine. He then states that there are a lot of other people that emailed him and that there will be someone making a deposit on weds and somewhat tried to persuade me to put a deposit on the bike if i want it. I pretty much told him it's fine if someone else puts a deposit on it...i told him that i'll contact him on weds to see if the person put a deposit on it. I wouldn't put a deposit on something I couldn't even see in person. So after the phone call I'm already like sounds like a scam...trying to get me to put a deposit...

Weds:
Called him...didn't pick up...no return call
Texted him...no text back

Seems like a scam now

Thurs:
Had nothing to do just rang him up again. He picked up and i was asking him if he sold it...and he was like noo and that he didn't reply cause his daughter was in the hospital for dehydration. The bike didn't arrive yet because he's been in the hospital and that he'll grab the bikee tmr (friday). So I'm like ok sure when can i check it out. and he said that he got more emails and that everyone is going on saturday at around 1 to check it out at the same time. So i'm like sure i'll be there blah blah

Sat:

Shot him a msg to confirm that everyone is meeting at 1...somewhat a live auction bid thing going on...

he then shoots me a msg bk telling me it's sold...

So i'm like meh ok w/e.

Checked cl last night and there was a a couple of posts saying that he's a scam and that rcmp is after him. He met up with one person...scammed him 1100...then met up with another right after and scammed him 300... then he disappears and you'll never hear from him..

Scammers Info:
name: Matthew Moore
number: 778-919-4100
Family: Wife shows up too to make it seem more legit and one new born child

Apparently this ain't his first time. he also posted a 08 white gixxer for sale at like 5000 bucks and owned a few more ppl

So heads up fellow RSers for this person w/e he tries to sell

The best revenge would be to pull out $20,000 right infront of the guy, and say you've been looking for a bike exactly like the one hes got for a long time... but the only thing is the 20k is fake money.

Just tell him take the money and give me the bike... and you drive away. fucking owned.

This guy sucks at scamming, I really doubt he's making any money doing this lol!!

With the same guy, but different bike -- $5800 for a CLEAN white gsxr 600.

All u have to say is text "I'll buy it, have cash ready and coming to pay you tomorrow" and the guy backs off like a turtle head :O

Funny thing is he never changes his #.. idiot... ever hear about pay as u go? lol!!

I've seen that guy's name on Craigslist before. He popped up last year if I remember correctly.

Ouch. Sucks to be the person that got scammed. Man, that person must feel like an idiot.

I've seen a cheap Gixxer 1000 *white* for sale. The guy said he's in Mexico and the bike is still in Vancouver, but that post was a while ago. Don't know how people still fall for these things.

Yeah, red flags for me when people try to scam me on CraigsList are no replies and surprise visits to the hospital if I really do have all the cash in hand.

Lesson? Never be afraid to question even the stupidest things.
