why would the government do that?

wasn't the whole point of the HST was to increase government spendings on artificial lakes?

FerrariEnzo
06-27-2010, 04:56 AM
they probably did this so they can ease the ass kicking they are receiving from us!

question is, is this going to be for every tax credit for a 1 time deal?

winson604
06-27-2010, 06:31 AM
I hope we get some free money. Correct me if I'm wrong but before the new tax kicked in on gas like a couple few years ago didn't we also get a small check in the mail for that too?

Only Ontario gets a HST rebate cheque, BC won't get one.

Supposedly low income family will get some money.. but I suspect it is a minority of users on RevScene.

tiger_handheld
06-27-2010, 07:54 AM
^ godwin is correct. Only ontario residents will receive a check. BC Gov't will use the transfer bribr from federal gov't on healthcare, paramedics and other similar stuff.

i think the low income families are getting around a $230 rebate??

but nothing for the middle income.

Hansen also noted low income families that make less than $25,000 per year will get rebates of $230 per family member per year. He also noted an $80 savings for every citizen thanks to an increase in the province's basic personal tax exemption.

Amanda Sung, a 25-year-old employee of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. questioned Hansen on the impact of the HST on the middle class. She said as a single person making $35,000 per year she would not be privy to any rebates and many of the things she buys will be more expensive now.

"I don't think he addressed too much on the impact on young working class [people]. I think he avoided those questions. When asked what the impact would be on the middle class his example was with someone making $80,000. I [think] that's not the middle class," Sung said after the forum concluded.

The poor get breaks for obvious reasons.

The rich can afford accountants that find them the breaks, and investments which are tax-advantaged to encourage them to keep their money in Canada.

The middle class is too busy spending their money on granite counter tops, stainless appliances, iPads, BMWs, and overpriced Starbucks coffee. If they could only learn to save, they could afford the same tax-advantaged investments (albeit in smaller amounts) and be on the road to financial independence.

Once you go granite, you don't go back. Stainless steel appliances are over-rated though as they're a pain to keep clean.

I prefer coffee from 49th Parallel roasters, thank you very much.

I guarantee you that people will go away from granite. It's a matter of time.

Just remember (well, maybe you don't):
- avocado green appliances
- shag carpets
- 5-10 yr old "contemporary" furniture

You guys do understand why you're getting this money right? It's to offset these taxes. So the theory is, if you don't spend aas much you save more.
If you don't drive, you don't have to pay the extra tax at the pump. But, you still get the bc climate action money.
So this is supposed to promote using public transit or get you to dec. Using your car. It is rewarding those who do not drive.

The same goes for the hst/gst rebate. The less you spend the more you actually save.

It's like a kick back.

HST referendum results expected in August

The B.C. government says the results of the HST referendum will not be announced until August, under a new timetable for the mail-in vote laid out on Friday.

According to the new timetable Elections BC will start mailing out referendum ballots for the HST to all registered voters on June 13 and by June 24 the majority of British Columbians are expected to have received the ballot.

The last day for unregistered voters to request a ballot from Elections BC will be July 8, and by July 22 completed ballots must be received by mail by Elections BC.

It will take several weeks for Elections BC to count the ballots, meaning the results of the vote are expected in August.

The referendum question will be: "Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) and reinstating the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) in conjunction with the GST (Goods and Services Tax)? Yes/No."

This page shows what rebate you'll get relative to the income you earn:
GST/HST Credit: Guideline Table effective July 2011 - June 2012 (2010 tax year) (http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/gsthst/gstc_pymnt10-eng.html)

If you are single, you will get something if you make up to $40k net per year, not too hard for many people even with established careers.

If you are married without kids, it only goes up to $43k net COMBINED per year. So for most newly weds where both are working, it is pretty tough to qualify for the HST rebate (which was the same with GST rebate in all fairness).

go on cra.gov.ca and check, if it shows your next payment as "N/A" then you didn't apply for it on your 2010 tax return. Apparently I didn't tick the "Apply for HST rebate" box when I was doing it through uFile online.

Now I gotta submit a tax amendment with that box ticked.

i had the problem too, so i called cra yesterday, turns out that when you filed your taxes for 2010, you would have to check off yes that you would like to receive the HST/GST credit
they told me that i checked off no so that's why I didn't get it for July; April you have received it cuz it counted for the previous tax year, they will send you a notice of reassessment on that tax credit for July

How can we tell if we get a tax refund or not? I got one last round, but it seems not everyone gets them?

geeknerd
10-10-2011, 09:33 PM
you get them based on your income.
If you're single than its

net income > $8209
(net income - 8209) * 2% = x
if x > 133
then $253 + $133(or x if <133) = 386/4 = $96.5 that you will get quarterly.

but if you make more than $32961
(adjusted net income - 32961) * 5% = x
(253$ -x ) / 4 = what you get quarterly

this is just for hst rebate. you also get gst rebate too.

so you dont get any if you make over 38k. lols
if you make below $8209 you get $253 divided into quarterly, so $63.25 every 3 month.

geeknerd
01-04-2012, 10:22 PM
Although PST/GST has been reinstated its gonna be at least another year before it comes into effect then you will get PST credit instead of HST but until then

last year direct deposit came jan 5 so im guessing tmrw or in a few days i will get some $$ and people who get them in the mail 1-2weeks probably.
itll help you pay off the christmas bills a lil bit :)
