FerrariEnzo
06-28-2010, 12:09 AM
who here, if they won the jackpot, would invest or starting something..

or just live off it until you die..

for me, i think i would set 25% for personal use only.. the rest i would starting a business or some sort.. i would like to have something going for my kids after im gone..

btw, is the lotto taxed after you a big sum of money?

Another Question, Would your Attitude change after you get the millions? or the way your family/friends look at you? will this money be a positive or negitive effect?

i'd,

1.buy a big ass house in west van for my family.
2. buy my family member sick cars, m5 for my mom, m5 for my sis. CLS63 for my pops and RR drophead for myself.
3. give family money, about 30%
4. Open hotels in vegas or a tourist populated place.
5. Go into my office at the hotel, sip on 1000000000000000 year old whisky, smoke a cuban and get a bj from a playboy bunny, while watching the numbers on my bank account go up and up and up.

I would put 50% into savings, 25% into stocks, and the last 25% for personal use.

1) big house
2)Lots of cars
3)bring family from vietnam over

I don't think there is any tax when you win the lottery in canada.

haha i dont think No 4 is an option.. you know how much is it to open just 1 hotel in vegas.. mind you there are TONS.. in order to compete.. i dont think $50million is even enough... plus you said you give 30% which is around 15million.

1. $700k to charity (split it for numerous charities too)
2. $300k random shopping spree/ party with friends
3. $2 mil house for family
4. $2 mil penthouse suite
5. $5 mil on cars
6. $20 mil investing in banks/stocks/bonds etc.
7. $10 mil split for family, $1mil each branch :P
8. $10 mil on buying property etc for investing.

Total: $50 Mil

]starting a business or some sort.

Do you really want still work after winning all that money?

My list.

2 mill for a down payment the rest mortgage to buy 5 or 6 acres and build 4 houses for family including a pool, sports court, artificial ice rink and a go cart track.

The rest in the bank. The interest from that would be more than the interest on the mortgage. Should be able to make a couple of mill a year.

well.. 50million will only last for so long.. after you get the money, you'd want to spend lots of it to pamper yourself, family and friends..

what happens when it all goes away? or bad investment... then what your family/friends gona say, haha..

having a steady flow of income is better then not... its basically securing a future for my kids and maybe if they are smart, their kids also and so on...

I don't think I would know what to do with all of that money.
You buy one thing here, another thing there... it's not gonna take that long for you to realize that you've spent millions, and have nothing really substantial to show for it.

I'd probably just get a nice pretty big Vancouver House. Like Richmond/Surrey "big"
Huge Driveway, and a pretty big house. Huge Garage. But in Vancouver. If I can't find one, I'll make one. I don't need a big house. I just want alot of property in a central location. Haaah not likely in Vancouver.
A couple cars for myself and family...
Share a bit with friends/family. I'm not gonna just give it to them. Something like helping them buy thier first house, or pay off student loans, or invest my money into thier business. That sort of thing. I'm usually generous, but I'm not gonna hand someone $xxx,000 just to blow it on something.

Save/Invest the rest into a Franchise or something. Like Captain Happy Bubble.

I would buy every online forum I am on and remove all the moderators. Then I would randomly ban anyone that argued with me.

After that, $50M invested at a safe 6% dividend returns $50.7K/week, $220K/mn, or $2.64M/yr after tax - that is if you could get a lump sum. Many of these charities don't pay out a lump sum.

mb_
06-28-2010, 06:39 AM
25%-30% savings
10% for kids in the future
rest will be all out but spend it wisely (ie, not buying 20 houses, 200 cars etc - would be nice but i don't like spoiling myself too much or open a business that will get some consistent flow of money)

I'd pay off my parent's mortgages, buy my grandparents a 5 series, an SL55 for my dad, and I know my mom likes to stick with her CR-V. (not going to turn her into a X5 driving C-Lai anyhow)

Then, give $2mil to various charities, with the biggest hunk going to cancer research and the children's hospital.

The rest?

Staying anonymous is not an option. Identities of lottery winners become public domain... otherwise I can't imagine why any lottery winner would voluntarily ever want to have it advertised.

But what I would do is make sure I have all my bases covered in terms of how to preserve my privacy BEFORE going to claim the money.

I would probably go buy a Ferrari... maybe F430 or California... probably get a decently sized house, no real need for a mansion per se... make sure the family is taken care of... but in general, would probably be fairly conservative with the spending. I sure as hell would never be one of those retards that somehow blows their entire fortune and then ends up broke again...

Well, would you want the retarded one or the smart one?

I would do this as the smart one:

Spend a few mill to get what ever the hell I want like car(s) or a house or two to get it out of the system

With Richmond's rising house prices I would then rent out the house and make a little income (just there to be safe)

With 10 mil or so left I will start a foundation to donate.

5 for big return investments

and the last 25 mil I will sit down with someone at the bank to make a plan for me to see how much interest this $25mill will generate and spend the interest only.

My life would still go on with a job and that money will be for living as well.

2) buy season tickets to canucks and then hire people to scalp the unwanted tickets
3) black card for everybody in my family
4) some nice cars and some cheap cars
5) treat friends and family to a holiday
6) live off the rest on investment returns and be a career student

I'd buy RevScene and install a filter that makes ALL posts look like they were made by Tic Tac.

BTW, just a note for anyone who would hand out money to friends and relatives: remember that while WINNINGS are tax-free, large gifts are not, and the recipients of your generosity will have to pay their own income tax.

The trick to getting around it is to use one of BCLC's "group buy" forms, and name all those people as "co-winners". Where a regular group buy might give everyone an equal split, you CAN specify who gets what percetage - parents are 10% partners, siblings 5%, etc.

I'd continue living more or less exactly how I am. I'd pay off a few debts, pay off the parent's house, and buy a couple places in downtown Vancouver, most of which i'd rent out; probably buy a prius too.

Staying anonymous is not an option. Identities of lottery winners become public domain...

Not really. But allowing BCLC to publicize your win is part of the conditions for your payout.

http://bclc.com/documents/RulesandRegulationsLotteries.pdf

The Corporation has no obligation to pay or deliver a prize unless the winner ... gives the Corporation the right to publish the winner's name, address, place of residence and recent photograph without any claim for broadcasting, printing, royalty or other rights....

In other words, if you don't let them publish your info, you don't get the money.

Aside from the usual debt servicing and family obligations, I'd probably go back to school and do a Masters of some sort, followed by a PhD thesis at some well-known school outside of the country. I would probably fix my current shoebox up and possibly acquire some storage space so I could purchase a few used cars that I've always wanted to own that I can't currently afford.

Upon my return from travelling and studying abroad, I would also probably do some side work/projects and possibly a customer-service type of job on a casual basis to keep myself somewhat grounded in reality.

And of course, I'd collect my 3-4% on conversative investments and use a small portion on high-risk stuff just for some variety.

I don't think Swiss Banks pay interest. Isn't that the point of a Swiss Bank, so your money is secure if you're partaking in illegal activities?

I could be wrong though.

Anyway I think for the first year I'd travel the world. Nobody would know I was a millionaire and I wouldn't advertise it to anyone. I could do anything I wanted and buy anything I wanted all while keeping my status discrete. I think about this stuff every time I purchase a ticket.

I love all the optimism and hope in this thread.

Apparently when you win the lottery, every person you met in your life will contact you at some point to be "friends" in hopes you'll pay off their mortgage. Also charities constantly bombard you for donations.

Is there a way for BCLC not to take a photo of you if you win?

Give 20~40% to parents...

I'd use it to open my dream business... A race track closer than Mission with no expenses spared. Probably in Richmond or Burnaby.. maybe surrey... Then have a garage shop right next to it to fix up peoples cars for cheap..

Let all my friends race there for free LOL

Yes, I'm going to be broke!!

probably not. my uncle used to own a corner store. people that win are required to have their picture taken and their name posted. also, the store where the winning ticket was bought is required to put up the picture of the winner. but, that doesn't mean you cant dress up like its halloween when you go claim your prize.

That's not the main issue, I forgot the ones who sue you and even try to kill you. Example was the guy who hired a hitman to kill his brother because he won the lottery in hopes to inherit the winnings.
