Looking for new camera- Canon S90?

Hey everyone.
Im new to the whole camera thing.
Basically i want a "good" camera that can take clear pictures.

i know thats quite vague, but i dont need a Dslr or anything too advanced or big.
Just want something small that can fit into my pocket which can take clear pictures in any lighting situation, can zoom far and still be crisp. Something that can capture clear videos as well would be great.

The most i'd like to spend is $500.
Ive read some good reviews of the Canon S90 as its an "amature" Dslr type camera. Its got lots of adjustments which i can pick up on.

Can anyone vouche for the S90, or have other recommendations?

Thanks.

s90 would be a good choice since you have a high budget.

but im not looking to max out my quota
S90 is good, but i heard that its not fully metal, and that the plastic parts of it makes the camera feel cheap.
