Hey everyone
what do you think of installing Megan SS headers if I currently have only a stock exhaust system?
will gains be minimal and not worth it?
i wont be getting a proper full exhaust anytime soon yet until i am done suspension so yea...
oh also the car is auto :D
header is around $175, how much do you guys think install will be? or easy DIY?
Thanks!!

If i remember correctly the cat goes with the oem header too. You probably need a cat+flange + catback, if you gonna get megan ss 4-2-1 header.

"I do sadly drive an auto...
Can anyone fill me in why getting headers would be bad because of this?
It shifts your powerband towards high rpm, and with an auto you don't get to pick what part of the rev range you drive in. With an auto you spend the majority of your time south of 4k rpm, and all your new power will be north of that, and you can actually LOSE some low end grunt, which you'll miss with an auto. It would make you slower more of the time, which would suck."
can someone confirm??

It's a 4-2-1 header so it should give you gains in the lower rpm range and give up some power up top. I used to have a 4-1 straight piped header and it gave me more power up top but less torque down low, which was fine, since when you are racing, your in the upper rpm range anyways.
For city driving, 4-2-1 is good.

had the same headers with auto too
noticed some low end torque. ie going up a hill.
would be louder, bigger pipes = more airflow
engine bay would have more heat though, since there is no heatshield

1. waste of money
2. car is an auto and gutless therefore zero gain

LOL!
For just $175, do it !
it will help even on a D15 engine. DD might hurt, but you'll love it when you step on it !

i guess for me the lower range is fairly important for DD,
so with your experience do you guys think lower rpm = gains or loss

i think theres no point in modding that 1.7EL

Don't kid yourself,
one of those disadvantages > all your advantages

I would still say do it !
The 1.7EL is a decent car to start and curl your mod bugs !
Better than spending the money on a spoon sticker or anodized wiper blades.
If you don't like it, just sell the headers for $100 and call it a day !
Close thread
I'd say do it...gotta learn from experience before u move on to bigger and bad-er cars!

I think the majority of people (myself included) who ask for opinions on forums are going to do it regardless...lol
Opinions are opinions (some are worth a lot more than others..lol) but in the end its your car.
Is the car completely stock?
asdfpic

Aside from audio and rims the car is stock.
Just go some sides and a front lip for it.
And still researching on a proper suspension setup
So the right shocks and springs for a ride targeted at 70% comfort and 30% stiffer.
Also something with front dip because my front is almost an inch higher than the rear
Anyway my main reason I asked for opinions is to clarify if I would lose low rpm performance since it is a daily driver

sexy
haha anyway, since you do have the same car and header
what can you tell me about performance. like you said you noticed a bit more low end torque going uphill, was it any better just for like city driving on reg roads?
and where'd you get the install/price or you do it yourself?

on highway crusing speed its somewhat the same as stock
but say when i'm stopped at a light, it would give me better acceleration when light turns green. My car is a auto too, with stock exhaust. So all the sound it was producing is strictly the headers. It gave the engine a more lower tone when wot.
i took it off recently and sold it because i didn't want to overheat my engine bay since now its summer and using a/c will make my engine bay extremely hot with no heatshield.
its easy to install, loosen the bolts/nuts that attach to the engine. and 2 bolts that attaches to the downpipe. you don't have to worry about the 02 sensor, since its attached to the downpipe
oh i also got better gas milege with the headers installed...
