Hi everyone,

I signed up for REVscene because I heard it was the best forum for automative talk in the city.

I'm currently buying my first car ever and I'm kind of set on getting a G35 sedan. I want a car that's stylish but yet practical.

I've found some buys locally that seem like a good deal cost wise, but before I sink the cash into them I wanted to know what everyone here things of them in terms of reliability and resale value (I don't wanna get screwed over on my first car :p).

If you have any thoughts on that I'd appreciate your input.

Thanks.

no matter which car you choose, get it inspected by an independent mechanic/expert.
g35 is a nice car. got a v6 so gas prices may be an issue depending on your budget. same with insurance too!

I'd stay away from luxury and get a basic car. You want low maintenance fees , and high reliability.

I'd look at Honda / Toyota sedan. Reliable, economical, practical.

>my assumptions.
- you are paying for the car + associated costs
- you are a student (it says UBC), you are almost graduating (you joined in 2007 , but you buy a car in 2010)

Dont listen to this guy, being too low has tainted his mind.
IF you can afford the gas and maintenance, I say go for it if its what you really want.

G35s are not that expensive...

Do the research before you buy...get a quote on insurance first and see if your comfortable paying that amount (since its your first car, and a luxury car at that its probably going to be high)...also like the others said gas is gonna rape you, especially premium. Take into account the maintenance charges....its going to be more expensive than other cars like honda etc. (unless you can do your own maintenance) but if you can afford it (gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.) then by all means go for it and enjoy the car

i absolutely agree. not to mention the G's pack a lot of power for a new driver and it is also rwd. knowing out weather, rwd would be less practical and would be more challenging to drive than a fwd or awd car. i would stick with a honda civic or a toyota matrix for a first car, regardless of how much cash the owner has. once you get more comfy with driving, then trade your car in for the one you want. since you are more prone to get into an accident (not saying that I want you to get into one) as a new driver, save the nicer cars for when you are a more competent driver.

imo, the safe choice would be a 04-07 base impreza 2.5 wagon. get a manual one. its slow, but its cheap, practical, reliable, has awd and 5 star crash rating.

the "G" depending on year has various degrees of engine and or transmission problems. a lot of them are coming out of warranty too. so thats something to think about. a g35x would be interesting. the awd is setup similar to the older gtr.

maxing out the use of your money for a car is not very smart

buy a cheap reliable car and use the rest for more important stuff such as tuition, food, clothes, rent, fun, etc. instead of looking "baller"

In the beginning it will be cool and all but it will lose novelty and in the end its gonna be A to B which u can do with a base civic or corolla.

but if u really like it for yourself and not to show off and if you wont drive it often, then get it man

as most ppl agree, the LOL front end is just hilarious. however, the interior is very nice. the plastics and cloths are of good quality and sound dampening is superb.

dun get a G or rather infiniti please...their fit and finish is a joke specially when their pricing is so close to a Euro. just play around with the push and open cabinets in the car, then go to a mercedes, bmw, audi etc and try the same thing. Night and day.

oh god these responces hurt my fucking brain.

be a man not a pussy and get yourself a real car! get a RWD SPORTS CAR WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION, period.

Just get the car you want, you don't need to buy a POS, that's why you drive 1 year with learners licence for.

I'm not sure if the G35s had coil packs issues, but the VQ engines in the first few years had poorly designed coil packs which would fail prematurely.

You forgot to mention the fact that euro maintenance is also more which plays a huge factor in his decision

what year g35 were u thinking of getting?

-gas costs about $80-85 for a tank at the moment (91oct)
-i own a 03, with 90000km...no serious issues besides squeaking noises here and there
-recently, i just went through brakes/rotors change, costs an ARM and a LEG...but i have brembos
-my driver seat is starting to squeak when i make turns
-make sure u get any used car inspected befor purchasing and also get a icbc history report on it
-for insurance, i spent just a little over 2grand on 40% discount

get a FWD car then in 2-3 years get a nicer RWD G. Chances are, if it's your first car, you're going to do something stupid in it, and it's better to do something stupid in a FWD car than RWD.

But if your not going to be an idiot, a G35 is pretty nice.

yep i'll be paying for the car and costs

i'm not a student anymore....just graduated.

dunno why it says i joined in 2007...maybe i did back then too. but i just signed up again and had my account approved. i always use this username for things so somehow maybe things got linked up. weird.

i wanted a bit of a luxury car too, but also a bit of practicality there. that's why i'm looking at the g35 sedan not the coupe.
