I was supposed to get internet hooked up yesterday
anytime 8~5? fine, i waited all day, no show
I called csr, tells me to give few more hours
wait till 7, still no show
I call again, three csr hung up on me after they said they'll check with dispatcher
I called 4th time and i get sorry it's 8pm and we've all gone home for the day bye bye~:2finger:

I call this morning two csr hangs up on me again while checking with dispatcher
They all told me service is already up? except tech never showed up to give me a modem.... :2finger:

finally i get a csr who tells me the tech never showed up because work had to be done at central office, and work request never went to central office and tech has to go there again today to finish the work
and I have reschedule for tech to come to my home, which could take another week...

I called twice in the morning and afternoon yesterday to confirm the tech is coming, when infact he was never going to show up.
tech never bother to call me he's not coming.

only in canada, will this kinda sht be tolerated
in this day and age, customer in metro urban area should not have to sit home all day on weekdays for a tech, or wait nearly two weeks for a internet connection.

well, thanks to telus, shaw just got one of their closed account re-activated.

Damn, that really makes me re-consider since I was just about to switch to telus tv and high speed internet.

Does anyone else have insight on their experience with telus?

While I haven't had an issue with Telus myself, it would recommend sticking with Shaw as they've really upped the level of quality in service over the last 5 years. The OP's rant is an isolated incident which could happen even with Shaw (or any company for that matter) and should be taken with a grain of salt. But nonetheless, as the saying goes, "Your Mileage May Vary."

stick with shaw. telus customer service is horrible. i had an issue with them once and it got escalated all the way to the top.

long story short, one of them called me and gave me all this bullshit with their things they were promoting. i got charged for it without receiving the service. the call that was made that day was traced back and was listened to. needless to say, they just said sorry and just gave us a discount for 6 months. this incident took almost 4 to 6 months to be resolved.

I had used Telus for about 5 years for internet and a land line and Shaw for cable. Canceled both and switched to Novus. Before that I never had a problem with Shaw or Telus. The CS rep's never hung up on me and were easy to deal with.

very true, my experience with setting up shaw home internet+cable service for my new home was similar to the ops, the difference was that I was dealing with Shaw.

I'm happy with shaw's CS but telus's promotion (free hd pvr rental on 3 year agreement, free laptop in 3 year agreement, reduced monthly cost for the first / months)

Can you negotiate an agreement like a phone retention plan?

I once heard from a telus employeer that no one ever checks the messages left on the phone. So if you leave a message it will never get heard @@

Also since some of thier call center is not from Vancouver so say there is an outage in your area and you happen to get connected to a rep in Winipeg they wouldn't know any outages in vancouver till the next day.

Personality you get what you paid for. With Telus their Internet is slow, their Cable sucks. The only reason they give you a HD PVR for rental for free because their cable uses their Interent so the PVR you can't buy it at any store and you can't use their PVR on any other services. While with SHAW PVR you can use it with SHAW and NOVUS and maybe even some other provider outside of BC.

The free laptop they give is pretty bad also seems like it is those out of date ones where no one wants it -_-.

I rather stick with SHAW at least I had no issue with them for the pass 7tears.

Think I can call into Shaw and "cancel" my services and hope for a better deal? I'd be happy if I can get a HD box, not even PVR to be completely honest.

Yes, it would be advisable to call Shaw to see if they can match, if not, beat Telus' offer. You won't know until you try and I believe there was an old thread (maybe 1 year old?) where an RS member successfully bargained over the phone with Shaw. :D

Lately, I've been getting a letter each month from Shaw asking us to switch back. I would but unfortunately, I signed a 3-year term with the Devil...I mean...Telus. :D

+1 for shaw. I've been with them so many years back when they released those heatsink cable modems. My Xtreme service has been super reliable.

I had every single HD channel telus offered until I cancelled it.. I was paying 5$/mth for that shiet!!!!

I think the guy hooked me up pretty well (yes they do have that power lol)

i used to work for Shaw as a tsr about 1.5 years ago. I loved Shaw service and my parents are still Shaw customers. As a tsr i would hear some good and some bad experiences with install and services. I have since moved in with my gf's family and they have Telus internet and had bell satellite when I first moved in. Telus internet constantly goes down and even though they have upgraded us it is still very sensitive (ie: when I download something at max speed no one could surf the net at the same time) When telus satellite came out they offered them a bundle with free install and 2 free rental pvr's and they also rented another hd receiver. We had bell satellite before however the setup for telus' is different it took 6 telus technicians not contractors and over 2 days to get it finally up and running our house looked like a telus parking lot for a time. They stayed almost till midnight the first night. It still to this day drops the sound from time to time when we are watching live tv or watching pvr'd programs.

So onto what happend this weekend. I noticed in the Best Buy flyer that they have started to sell HD receivers my girlfriend's bedroom has a satellite outlet that we had one of the technicians put in when the whole group was there when we first got telus satellite installed. So i figure I have a crap load of best buy gift cards I might as well pick one up. So got one brought it home and hooked the cable to the box. It turns on says signal strength is 83-84 and makes a steady beep sound. Called telus to have the box added to the account the first agent i spoke to had to transfer to the department that installers call to activate the box since I installed it myself. She said it would be 2-10 min until it was up and running. So i'm staring at a screen that says "Vital Information is being downloaded" "Status: Acquiring satellites" it stays there for 30 min and I call back. Talked to tech support this time and they said it may take up to 2 hours, this agent seemed to know the most as she had me try various things to see if the box would respond. After we tried and failed she said if its still stuck like this in 2 hours to call back and setup a tech to come out. So about 9pm rolls by and still stuck at the same message. I call back spoke to tech support again. He tells me first that I am not supposed to buy a box myself and actually have a tech come out and install it. He also noted that I probably bought a Bell box instead of a Telus box in which I told him the box that it came it clearly states it is a Telus receiver. He then checks and says oh they never notified us that they were starting to sell them there. He also tries to reset my box on his end but it doesn't work. He checks the account and says there is a service call setup for Tuesday for an all day call in which the tech can come anytime on Tuesday. I was never told of a service call being set up nor can anyone be at home on Tuesday. I will have to call Telus again today as he said he could not change the appointment. I would try to convince them to switch to Shaw but my gf's mom has already had enough of the system changing and tech's drilling holes and such. I just want everything to work.

Telus is always willing to negotiate their rates...I just got their new Telus Optik HD TV w/PVR and 3 converters + Chinese Channels and Sports HD Programming + Telus Optik Internet + Telus Phone for $81 a month for 12 months.

^ Interesting, I thought about switching to "Optik" TV from Bell since I already have their phone and internet. I just don't trust the video quality of their new TV service.

well your the 1st cuz a while back before the winter Olympic my dads bud got a the telus package & it was a good deal, while i was looking forward to telus since they have a modem with free wifi & we don't have wifi at home while long story short we signed up & waited for the February installation but it never came cuz we don't have ANY F**KING PORTS, so i went to telus at RC & they told me we got ports

so now it's near the end of the winter Olympic & im getting really close to missing canada win gold & i actually did miss the biggest game in canadian history cuz telus keeps tell me theres no ports in my damn area so i had to go through a whole month with no tv or internet since my dad was not in town, plus i had no idea where he went after he went to HK for business trip & after he phoned me & i told him about it

once i got the ok from my dad (since it's his house) i went back to shaw & guess what i got the 9.99 package from shaw, which is way cheaper then whatever the f**k telus was gonna give me anyways plus i super closes to getting this on CTV news with "olsen on your side" & till now we still get calls from telus tell us about there super deals there handing out to ppl but we just yell out 9.99 tv, internet, phone then hang up

so update on my post above, so this guy i talked to last night said that the grab and go boxes at retailers are meant to be purchased by new customers only, and that because im having problems installing it myself, he would have to charge us $150 to have a tech come out because "they are highly paid" and cost money. I was like F--- that, im just gonna return this box and never deal with telus again. This is why many people are moving to just watching online content and now I will put my money to buying a new tv and building an HTPC cuz really im tired with dealing with TELUS and their BS.

what do you expect when 80% of the customer service is outsourced

when your Telus CSR tells you something it is most likely wrong cause they arent from BC and are reading off a list. Also doesnt help that over 50% of Telus "techs" are contractors who do the work as quick as possible (piece work) and when customer complain about not getting real techs Telus just started branding the contractors as real techs giving them Telus clothes and vans.

Telus service is only good when you have someone that knows wtf they are doing helping you out and how to get around all the flawed systems within the company.

Quick Notes:

Bell Satellite is Telus Satellite so if you were switchin from Bell to Telus it would take about 45mins to do the job.

Picture quality of the new TV system is pretty good. The old TV system was one that Telus developed (which is why its bad) but the new TV system has been out for a long time since it is actually Microsoft's system that Telus has leased. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Mediaroom

One thing that people need to realize is that there isnt a tech assigned to your jobs, the jobs are placed in a worklist that slowly gets picked up as jobs are finished. Most list are 30% Telus techs and 70% contractors and if a job will take too long than contractors will ignore them or wait until its already too late to make the appointment time and put it in the Telus tech's list.

For a communications company there is very little of it within the company and the few actually Telus techs are the ones that end up havin to deal with and correct all the bullshit, that is if you even get a legit tech in the 1st place. (only real way to know is the ids contractors have a green strip and a X as the start of their numbers)
