Do you know if Holt Renfrew is more expensive than boutique or other stores like Leone?

I know they do carry expensive brands, but I'm just wondering if their pricing for bags is higher than other stores for the same product.

Thanks

He's asking if the same product at holt renfrew is more expensive then other stores. Eg. would a LV Neverful be more expensive at holts compared to say the lv store. As far as I remember with somethings are the same and others are not. This was with some gucci bags I was looking at so it's best for you to personally go into check or call the stores yourself.

it's pretty close, smaller boutiques have more room to haggle though.

if anything PC and the lv store etc are pretty close together so you can check them out within an afternoon

Leone is more expensive than Holts... I find the service at Leone better, but they carry different brands mostly anyways.

if you care about the marked up prices then order online

Timpo
07-07-2010, 01:46 AM
I thought Leone and Holts both carry Prada? But I guess everything else is different...
Do if you know Leone have good lineups of handbags? How big is their store?

Anyways...I don't want to order online because there are so many fake ones out there, even though they say "authentic" most of them aren't.

Zyzz
07-07-2010, 01:55 AM
yes they both carry prada, which was what i meant by mostly. for example leone has dior while holts has dolce. And even though both stores carry some of the same brands, the items are different. I just find that leone has more selection for each brand. It is quite big in vancouver standards, about the same size as harry rosen in PC. If you are looking for handbags though, then I would definately check Leone first because it has more exclusive brands in Vancouver standards, such as Chanel. the prices will definalely be higher than online a bit, but you get to make sure it is authentic and get to see it up close.

edit: actually leone mark prices up quite a bit lol. prada shoe costed 655, vest costed 685, dior jeans 655, shirt 460 without tax. You get the idea lol

Check saks or neiman marcus if you're looking online. There's a few other sites from Europe that sell legit designer purses but you will get dinged with taxes/customs.

07-07-2010, 02:54 AM
sorry for such noob question...what's the approx starting price for Prada handbags?

Also, I can not tell the difference between real/fake so I need to know where would be the safest place to shop..do Holts and Leone both sell only real deal...right?

what do you mean by Leone marking up price high? Do they sell higher than MSRP?

This is American website, but I guess it will be more expensive in Canadian $...right?

Prade purses range in price, here's two links to give you an idea;

http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductArray.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=25343743064 36529&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446176808&bmUID=1278501367311&use_parent=1&SECSLOT=BR-Prada

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/templates/SC3.jhtml?itemId=cat14860749&parentId=cat000011&masterId=cat5890735

Holts and Leone's don't sell fakes and what he means by mark up is say a purse costs $350, the markup might be a extra $100 or something. And Prada.com doesn't ship to Canada and it's usually more expensive buying directly from the designers site but a lot of designers now have their own e-shops and have matched their prices with other online stores.

the last time i shopped at leone, i noticed they had a different set of stuff per brand name. there are some pradas you can find in only holt, and some only in leone. i like the selection better in leone just for the sake that not everyone wears the same thing.

jah is right, check out saks or neiman marcus. i know they ship to canada.
for a european selection, check out www.raffaello-network.com/raffties
some of them are higher in price, but some of their designs and models don't even reach north america

I have never been to neither of them, but which one is bigger?

I did some online research about them and yea...people are saying Holt's customer service isn't that great.

I'm not really looking to purchase online as it might take long time and people are saying they got $300+ charged as import duties and stuff.

I know nothing about handbags but if LV are played out that's good to know I'll just avoid it.
I also heard that Coach is too cheap to be called as a high class brand too.

What about Salvatore Ferragamo or Fendi? They appear to be pretty good?

Zyzz
07-07-2010, 02:34 PM
salvatore isnt really well known for their bags, they are mostly for shoes or dress.

the stuff fendi carries these few years are pretty ugly. The good thing about chanel is that their cheapest bag are still too expensive for you to see everywhere, unlike LV or Gucci. All the rich girls i know wear chanel nowadays.

hahaha yeah it did, :) I actually sat and thought for a few minutes thinking what was wrong with his question because it made perfect sense to me. I find Leone a much more enjoyable shopping experience, same with Harry Rosen. With HR I always seem to get the most stuck up sales people.

On a side note has anyone checked out the harry rosen sale? saw it in a chinese magazine and wanted to go pick up a polo and some shirts.

If you're planning on coming to vancouver to purchase something, its not that hard to go Holts and Leone on the same day. They are only a couple blocks away from each other. Leone and Holts don't just pull these markups out of their asses, both will be marked up considering its Canada, but it won't be a huge difference. Of course if your comparing prices in Canada to the US, then the US is much cheaper.

Timpo
07-07-2010, 10:29 PM
what do you mean by "marked up considering its Canada"??

It's not that Canadians are more loaded than Americans...or willing to pay more for no reason.
Is it because of Canadian government charging more tax?

filth
07-07-2010, 10:38 PM
I dont know how they decide the markup, but in general, prices in canada are higher than the US. It's not just fashion. Let me help you understand this. Prices for cars in Canada are higher than the US.

$1 US used to be like $1.50 Canadian...now the ratio is about 50:50...they won't instantaniously change the price to match the states.

Timpo
07-07-2010, 10:42 PM
but from Vancouver to the states isn't that far away...so I would imagine Holt and Leone would price their products so that it wouldn't worth driving all the way up to the states? or would it...?

like $2,500 Prada bag in Vancouver would be $2,000 in the states? If so, that's like 20% difference..

moky
07-08-2010, 09:25 AM
it would depend on several factors too. how long you plan on staying down there, what else you're buying, groceries, misc stuff, hotel, gas and food. just make sure that after you compute your expenses and everything, if you still save some money as opposed to buying all those stuff here in van, then it's still worth it to drive down.

i wouldn't go as far as saying 20% price diff, but if you're already here in vancouver, check out holt, and then check the stuff from the states online thru saks or neiman marcus.

your 20% difference would be paid to the government.

HST = 12%
Duties for leather goods = 8-11%

not to mention you might need to pay sales tax for some states.

that's why u go down to seattle or portland. you don't pay tax in portland at all, and in washington, there's the sales tax exemption for bc residents.

but then again, it's better to pay that 20% to the government, than to pay a higher msrp here in vancouver + 12% hst

washington's sales tax exemption is on hold right now because the judge decided it would be best for the state to NOT uphold that exemption because they will be out $200 mill a year. they will hopefully pass that judgment of NOT imposing the exemption because they also say it's none of their business what some other province in Canada is doing.

The entire state didn't sue the state of Washington. Only the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County did. That's why if you go further south to Everett, Lynnwood, Burlington, Seattle etc. stores are still honouring the exemption.
