I use RP or RL with good results from both
I used Pennzoil and GM with good results too !

ya
im sick and tired of 3rd gear pop lol
my 2nd gear dont grind
but 3rd gear likes to pop every once in awhile but mostly a wall when shifting
in winter time its more severe, which i came to a conclusion where i flush it every 5000-6000km than it shifts like butter, no pop no wall.
lately i been kinda lazy and havent flush it for almost 10,000km
the 3rd gear isnt as smooth, and the wall feeling seems to come back.
have always been using the oem mtf.,...but maybe its time to change
heard nth but great reviews on Amsoil's MTF
PS
i read someone down in the states claims that once you go synthetic, you cant go back (for tranny) potential damage?

try the mix that Subaru guys made.
They put a quart of the heavy weight RL, synchromesh, and 2 quarts of regular castrol gear oil for the weak WRX 02-04 5 speed tranny. It helped a lot on subaru cars. I think Hypa tried it before too !

tats why i didnt wonna go with full motul
motul is thicker than oem, takes longer to warm up in the winter
otherwise i use motul everything
cant believe its this difficult to find amsoil locally
guess i may have to go for another route
I used to have the same symptoms on my first batch 02' wrx 5 speed tranny.
I've tried castrol synthetic, motul synthetics, Mobil 1 syn. That all grind and block in gears.
But once i go back to mineral (75w90 valvoline) + GM synchromesh, it's very smooth and no problem whatsoever.

Mugen Evolution: I know that Newtype Mitsubishi (Rev Competition) and MF Technology sells Amsoil fluids...
If you call Newtype ask for Ken in parts dept....
Good luck.

I've been using Motul Motylgear 10w40 myself for daily driving & lapping purpose for a good few years now. Shifts nice & smooth no matter it's sub zero or 30c+ outside.

That's because Scamsoil is sold thru Pyramid marketing like Mary Kay cosmetics. You need to find an independent agent for the stuff, who usually sell it out of their own homes. I'm sure there are plenty of them in BC

using redline 10w40.
colder days would make the tranny a lil clunky on the ITR.. but other wise its not bad.

I used Redline MTL for my IS300, it solved my 4th gear pop problem. Didn't solve the W55 clunky-ness though. =(

sorry to revive such an old thread, but I'm just wondering if the AMSoil 5w-30 MTF worked out for you Mugen? Its nearing summer time and my car (same as mugen's) needs an oil change and lately 2nd has been hard to get into and 3rd sometimes pops out as well. Do you recommend getting the AMSoil MTF?

i have noticed that the only time 3rd pops out is if i release the clutch before going fully into gear, or when wheel hopping.
as for the second gear grind, it some how disappeared a while ago.
i use redline MTL.

if you drive an Acura, try Honda's "New" MTF...
it's so much better than normal Honda MTF.
it's available in Canada now and should be able to buy one from dealership

I had an 8thgen si with the dreaded 3rd gear popout/grind whatever...
after i put in amsoil MTF.... the shifts were significantly more buttery smooth and no longer experienced the 3rd gear popout and grinded 99% less.
i do a drain fill for every 3 oil change to keep the shifts buttery smooth.
if you want maximum effect... get a shop to suck out the tranny and lsd dry. then fill it back up completely with amsoil.
