Summer Food
My all time favourite on hot days is ice cold Somen (thin Japanese noodles). Sauce for somen prepared a day or two before and sitting in fridge. Noodles sitting in ice water, then strained before eating. When I have the time, I make my own mentsuyu - chicken broth with swirled eggs, sliced shiitake mushrooms, onions, sugar, soy sauce and mirin. served with a bit of thinly sliced green onions on top.
You can buy Mentsuyu (noodle sauce) at Fujiya. It's concentrated, so mix 4-1 with water. The secret is to have everything ice cold.
Any other summer favourites?

Wow, that looks good.
What's that thinly sliced white stuff between the radish slices and beef?
I had yukhoe @ Hanwoori on kingsway before, it was pretty good.
Is there anywhere else in the city that could be trusted to prep it?
Seems like the perfect meat dish when it's hot out like now.
