After tons of speculation BMW has finally confirmed the new 1 series M

Not sure how I should feel about it, but I like the way they are building the hype.

And to think, the wife said yes to me getting a 135i next year.

Time to save a few more pennies each day to get the M.

Just little more info:

Autobild's current issue has an exclusive on the 1M Coupe. According to Autobild, the 1M Coupe will have 340PS, twin turbo N54 engine, 6MT standard (DCT optional).

** Note: these specs have NOT been officially confirmed **

Scan and translation by southlight:
Launch in June 2011 (that's for Europe I guess)
340 PS
3.0l inline 6 with two turbochargers - same engine as Z4 35is
Flared fenders front and rear
New seats and new gauges (screenshot @ http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=406297)
19 inch wheels standard (GTS wheels, IMO)
6MT standard, DCT optional
Faster than the E46 M3
Around EUR 48k (for comparison, 135i costs EUR 40k)
Rather a little Gran Turismo than a 'race car'
Great low revv acceleration, still quite comfortable
For this reason, Autobild speculates about a 1-M GTS

I thought it was just me. I hate the headlights. It's like the stupid car is saying "OH HAI!!!1"
http://www.mongabay.com/images/thai/owl_eyes.jpg

I don't want an M for the 1 series. It's a chick car, looks ridiculous, and has no business being "fast". Ugly things shouldn't be admired nor desired. BMW didn't learn from that abomination, cursed, down-syndrome plagued 6 series.

Mmmmm, 135 M is certainly tasty. But I find it kinda hard to justify the price hike over a normal 135i.

They should put a V8 in it that would be insane!!

Nice, can't wait to see it. I will save the money and get a 135i with Dinan Software upgrade. This should be called a 135is instead with the minimal power increase over the standard 135i. Exciting nontheless.

i'd say if it comes with solid lifters and a real LSD,
it'll be worthy of its '///M' badge

from what i can see, it's reusing a lot of parts from the e9x M3
including steering wheel, seats, LSD and brakes
i do hope it's lighter than a 135i..

Chassis parts are almost all taken directly from the current M3, apparently. Designed in mind to rival the E46 M3 as a baseline for performance, with the minimalism of the original E30/E36 M3's (i.e. comes in 6-spd only)

BMW M3 (E92, coupe, 6-speed manual)
- 414 HP @ 8,300 RPM
- 295 LB-FT @ 3,900 RPM (that's torque, in case you still don't "give a fuck")
- Weight: 3,704 lbs.
- 0-60 in 4.4 seconds

BMW 135i (N54 engine, 6-speed manual)
- 300 HP @ 5,800 RPM
- 300 LB-FT @ 1,400 RPM
- Weight: 3,372 lbs.
- 0-60 in 4.7 seconds

BMW could very well be losin it. At least in terms of what the M-sport designation should stand for.

In conjunction with a new CEO, it is rumored the new M5 will also be turbo-
charged. I would agree that it should represent high revving, lightweight engines.

All in all, thank goodness this aint no M1.

Crossing fingers for what the new civic after 6 years(!) might look like..

Ok, you might have me on your fail just as it looks like the 1-series M has not depreciated, if at all. Can you elaborate on why you failed me?

Not really. Just here to talk cars. I dedicated a big part of life to my M3 so thought I'd share some information and have an opinion. I guess that makes me a faggot. Its been well over ten years of this 1-series platform. Sure'd like to see a new one!

Just wanted to add that one was really was influenced by MotorTrend's best writer as I too wanted to see stratospheric-like redline on this puppy.

Well, the best buy of the decade?
