help! 2 wasp nests in my backyard! :(

so just the other day i found out that there's 2 wasp nests in my backyard.
hopefully they're not preparing for war against each other and using my backyard as the battlefield.
but anyways, if any of you have dealt with these kinda things, how'd you get rid of it? please no "JACKASS" stunts, and i'm only planning to call an exterminator as my last resort.
i heard that city of vancouver has people who can come remove it free of charge, but i gave them a call and they said that's only for honeybees and not wasps! >_<
here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure :)
right there in the middle...do you see it?

here's the other one. this one's just under my deck's roof.

Exterminator may cost you a bit of money..
I mean since its out in the open and not in the cracks of your house (I had a nest in between my floor boards)
You would probably save a bit of money just going to homedepot and buying a couple of cans of wasp control/killing stuff

just bundle yourself really well (goggles, gloves, jacket, ski mask (?))before you spray the nests with foam, and maybe spray some insect repellent on yourself first. You could also hang replica paper wasp nests around to try and deter them, but at this stage I don't think it would work. These are mere suggestions though, I've never had wasp nests of this size in my yard.

+1 for homedepot idea.

What you can do is get those fake wasp nests which keep the wasps from making the nests. I have one and it works wicked. Right now just go to home depot and you can get some wasp spray. The question I have is why did you let them get that large, don't you go in your back yard?

Some kids in Nanaimo tried that and burned there house down.
i was just about to say that....
the wd40 trick is the most retarded recommendation i have ever heard.....how is wd40 + fire a good combo for house frames and tress? =.="
anyways, like other ppl mentioned, try to armor yourself and spray those foam thingy into the nests....they have the nozzle and let u stick it right into the nest without getting to close to them.
those foams contain poison and once u start from the inside of the nest and spray out, it pretty much just block all the exits and wasps will be trapped inside (well of course there will be a few that escape...thats why u gotta armor urself). those that survive would probably be flying around the nest for a day or so.....so feel free to give it another spray the nxt day to seal the deal.
and op...u actually do want those two wasps to use ur backyard as battle field....so this means one less nest to deal with :p
but yea it will never happen as wasps/bees like to keep distances for another nests as they have territories (this explains why u have 2 nests kinda far apart). so once u get rid of those nests, hang those fake ones up and u should be good (mind u if you have a big house, u might need 2-3 around the house.....) like i mentioned earlier, wasps have territories and those fake nests only cover a certain amount of area (check the packaging and it should say)
good luck

Do the foam thing dressed in thick clothing but do it with a friend and have him spraying the bee/wasp killer at the same time killing the bastards that escape and attack.

Smoke'em out!
Then while those suckers are sleeping, ignite the sucker.
For your the one on your house, I suggest letting the exterminator do that. It'll likely set you back 120? or so.

We had a similar wasp problem on our patio last year. Being too cheap to hire an exterminator and having too much free time, I would spend a few minutes a day (a few times a day) vacuuming them as they flew out/in. Then I'd leave the vaccuum cleaner outside, seal the hose with a plastic bag + elastic, and let 'em bake in the sun. :) After a couple of weeks or so the colony went kaput; the queen couldn't pop out enough replacement wasps. They haven't come back since.
You want to do this during the day as they're the most active. More traffic = more vacuumed bees. :D

Depending on how armored up you get, you'll be pretty safe.
I've gone with the crazy method.
I've just taken a broom stick, hoe or rake and knocked the whole nest onto my grassy lawn.
Proceed to smash them completely open. And have your fun with a tennis racket.
If I had TWO nests like you, I'd knock them both into the middle of my lawn, smash them open, head back inside, and watch the ensuing fight.

Buy the foam spray for killing wasp nests. Really simple to use. Just spray all around the nest first so they're all traped inside. Then you use the straw it comes with and poke it into this now huge clump of foam and spray into it.
The foam is deadly to the wasps, so when they fly out they won't even make it a few meters. I had a nest in my garage and this worked.

I had this problem a few years back.
First you suit up
http://www.besportier.com/archives/triple-five-soul-nassau-ripstop-bomber-jacket.jpg
Second you spray them with boiling hot water
http://www.backpacksprayers.net/productsimages/handwatersprayer_128886.jpg
Lastly you go Rambo on it and beat it down with a bat or something similar
http://nastyish.com/images/pandas/baseball-bat.jpg
Make sure your door is open so you can quickly run inside after spraying it down and beating it with a bat. Worked perfectly fine for me

I work for the parks department here in vic.... you go to the nests around 9-930... when they arent flying around... get a can of the LIQuID bee killer... and soak the hell out of the nest.. like drench it.. problem solved. They will more then likely be dead the next day. ive killed hundreds of nests this way.

Going late at night is key.
The best spray I found was at home depot its in a copper coloured can with a yellow lid.
Lately tho I was having fun killing the fuckers with my princess auto electric fly swatter. Much more satisfying than the spray can method.

thanks for all the comments!
i have thought of most of those! burning down an old swing set = no big deal.
however burning down a deck roof that my parents spent a couple grand on just a couple summers ago = probably gonna get kicked out.
main concern is: let's say i attack one wasp nest... will it call out for help and cause the wasps from the other nest to come over and rape me? the two nests are less than 10meters away from each other.
the other wasp nest in the bushes: well needless to say i'll probably end up burning the whole bush down and possible alot other stuff considering the weather we're having, how dry everything must be. so again...burning = probably not such a good idea.
also did i mention? that nest is at least 11 ft high.
edit: and to the person asking me why i didn't see this sooner and let the nests grow that big.
well my answer to that is...i'm not exactly the "garden/backyard" kinda guy. i only noticed it recently cuz the weather was getting so nice and i decided to do some around the house cleaning; trimming bushes, washing the windows, cleaning out gutters etc...and then i was like..."oh shit!!"
also, i don't usually spend my time staring out my kitchen window, staring into a bigass shrub of bushes trying to see if there's something unusual. i only found out about that cuz my mom happened to see it while she was washing the dishes one afternoon.
i bet if you guys just straight up saw this picture without a title or knew what you were supposed to be looking at, you'd probably never find it

btw that "green earth" or whatever bottle of raid works really well. but not for a nest, get the foam and go at it. early morning.

like other have said, get some of those fake wasps nests to hang up.
as far as killing them, cover both nests with that foam stuff, then shoot it with a slingshot or pellet gun or something from a distance, so that they get pissed and rush out and die right away.
but the most fun thing I could see being done with those two, without property damage, would be to get bundled up and have some sort of flamethrower, hit the nest so they fly out, and torch the fuck out of them as they come after you.

you should quarantine both with transparent plastic bags, then once quarantine has been set start removing it. I probably wouldn't touch it with my bare hands (just in case) but instead remove it by hitting it with a big object, hopefully the nest will come off along with the quarantine bag, then you wrap it up and let the garbage man deal with it.

Or,
think of it as a Deathstar, in every Deathstar there is one weak point in which you can attack and the entire structure will fall apart. You must find this very location in the wasps nest and attack.

Option 1 - put a bucket of water under it, knock it down, watch wasps fly under water
Option 2 - paintball gun + pepper filled rounds + target practice
Option 3 - become a wasp breeder
Option 4 - carefully relocate one nest into your neighbors trunk and the other in the mail box

Bumping this thread:
I have a wasp problem at my house right now. They demolished the house next door and I'm guessing there was a nest in either the attic or the bushes. As soon as they tore it down there was a huge swarm of wasps. They are flying like apeshit outside my second story window and I have no idea how they are getting in my house. There's about 10 of them and I killed the shit out of them with bug spray and flip flops.
I talked to the guy who's building the house next door because I don't want to foot the bill to call in an exterminator because it's his fault. He's telling me I'm shit out of luck and he doesn't give a shit. What to do?
I want to burn the shit out of those motherfucking wasps but it's too high to do so. I'm thinking about putting my BBQ right beneath where they are and hopefully smoke them out? I've put up those fake wasp nests so far.

Don't they like corn? Cook up some corn inside, then toss is into the middle of your yard, experiment a little and see how they like it best (I who cob, just the cob after you cut the corn off, or a partly eaten one) then kill them with fire as they go for the corn

How did u manage to let wasp create 2 nests is beyond me. Prior to the nest being created, u should have already seen signs of wasps around ur house.
My house had the same incident and before we let them got their nest up, my uncle just sprayed it with water and they were gone. But in ur case, it is too late. They will protect that shit with all they got. I would go out and buy those bee killing things at home depot. But make sure once u use it, keep the area clear of pets and kids.
