seriously, Valve is too kind to its PC fanbase.. hope they dont delve into what Epic Games has become, focus on teh console market

apparently the guys that made L4D and L4D2 are those modders that made this game, originally it was develop for the unreal engine back in '04

lol been checking this out with offline game, seems pretty fun... was on vent when my friends were playing and they said the game is super fun for a free game. This game really makes me miss natural selection :lol

It's not an FPS, it's overhead/isometric view like Diablo. It's similar to Alien/Zombie Shooter

Yeah. Fun game when you aren't playing with TK fuckers. You really have to watch your ammo count and use the environment to help you out like blowing up barrels and proper turret placement. Thought there would be plenty of ammo and ended up swinging my fists instead.

I won one round solo in CTF with an infil :lol pissed off some major clan back then because there were 2 major clans going for it and I jacked all their flags, thanks to being able to use blink effectively

nope, played the game and didn't like it. I play competitive games online CS, TF2, WoW, SC1 and I didn't like the game. Been on a couple teams cal-i, esea invite etc.. Could be that I'm also picky about what games I think are good or not

Alien Swarm In First Person
PCGamer's website provided a video to play Valve's free game, Alien Swarm in First Person. First you have to enable developer console by going to Options>Keyboard>Enable Developer Console. Then hit the ~ to show the console. Type in the below commands to enable First Person perspective!

First, this is not very playable
- Mouse wheel attack doesn't ever work (as shown in video)
- You easily get "lost" as you don't have the bird's eye view.
- Your aim point is off a bit because you are playing over the shoulder view and not FPS view
- Looks dumb cause no roof!
- Hard to see when you are getting raped from the back
- Can see door's life through walls, very annoying on maps with lots of doors.
- Can't do any "hacking" as a tech, due to the mouse commands being reconfigured.
- This is "working" due to the fact that game is 3d, units are full 3d units with textures on all sides. Thus you can view it from all sides and not crash the game or anything.
Older games like THREAT had pictures drawn from the top side so was IMPOSSIBLE to change views, this is a true 3d game thus allowing you to have a free roaming cam.
- Just cause you CAN doesn't mean it is better :)
- You will get bored of playing like this very fast.
- I am 99% sure the mod community is already working on a FUN FPS game mode for this. Only time will tell if it will be fun or not.

But here is how it is done.
Options -- keyboard/mouse
scroll all the way down and enable dev mode. (the check box)
hit the ` (by #1 and tab)
Type in each of the follow words without quotes, in ( ) i will say what it does
"firstperson"
(first person mode)

"asw_hide_marine 1"
(you really play over the should view, this removes the marine from view)

"asw_controls 0"
(this removes the "dumb movment", normally w is "north" cause you are stuck in "north = up" mode, but in first person you can turn and look different ways, so w is no longer north. This makes wsad movement like normal FPS.)

There are many fun dev commands to try.
The game is MEANT to be modded and will greatly change within a few weeks :) Can't wait to see what the modders do first and i hope valve picks up the good ones and makes them make the next l4d :D

Hey when you guys right-click someone on your friends list who's playing Alien Swarm and click "View game info", does it actually show the info or does it say "server is not responding".

It seems I only have this problem with this game while all others are fine.

My guess is it has something to do with opening ports?

People who are failing me are doing it just because everyone else is. Thats the problem with fails/thanks, they are usually handed out too liberally.
I don't really care if people fail me but what does piss me off is when I don't get any thanks. I've posted tons of shit and only collected a few thanks. I should have at least 300 or so thanks to my name.
