i just bought a acer computer from work for 300 bux. the only reason i got it is because its a quad core and ddr3 memory.

im thinking of selling my PS3 and using the desktop as a replacement. im looking for a graphics card that will give me similar image to the one i would get playing ps3.

what graphics card do u recommend that isnt`t going to be worthless soon because from what ive read graphic cards plummet in price real fast real soon and u have to keep upgrading, but i dont want to have to pay $220 for a ATI 5780 graphics card when i could use a older graphics card.

im going the PC route for my gaming needs because i play mostly first person shooters ;call of duty, battlefied bad company but wanna be able to play crysis and whatever other good PC games that are fps (feel free to recommend some:thumbsup:)

what graphics card are you using and how does it perform with games like call of duty. if you could upgrade in a reasonable price range what would it be

im trying to spend 150$ or less. is that reasonable to get a decent graphics card or do i need a high budget

Unless you're playing at ultra high resolutions (2560x1600 or so) the 768MB version is perfectly adequate.

But at that res, you'll want something more than a $200 video card anyway...

From somebody that switched from a Nvidia card to ATI, stick with Nvidia. There are so many performance issues with ATI cards and new releases.
I thought the days of hot fixes whenever a new game comes out were over, but that's how the world of ATI still works. However, to be fair, most of the hot fixes are to fix crossfire (multiple GPU) performance issues. So running a single ATI GPU setup might provide a better experience.

I have heard that ATI is always slow to release driver updates.. i dont know if that issue has ever been addressed..

nVidia releases drivers like crazy...

I have always had the impression that ATI cards are more suited for TV/Video editing cards while nVidia was better for gaming..

Normally that would be the only difference. But with the GTX 460, the 768MB version has several components disabled, so it is inherently slower than the 1GB version. In fact, they probably should have called it the 459 or something.

Anyway, it is within 2-5 FPS of the full 1GB version in resolutions up to 1080p, so it's probably not justified to spend the extra $30 + HST for the more expensive version.

That's hitting 1gb territory, probably find a 1gb $10 more.

I have a 5850 with Win7 64bit, I've never had any issues with any games.
It's ATI's drivers for XFire that you need to worry about, but that's not the OP's problem anyways.

I gotta say though, the GTX460 is the best bang for buck on the market right now.

Yeah, at this point in time, GTX460 is the card for you.
Just jump the extra and get the 1gb version so you don't look back later and think "what if".

Nvidia launches official drivers very infrequently, although you can get beta drivers pretty regularly ...

^^mid-to-low end card. I have the same card, but made by EVGA. I'm able to run Bad Company 2 at 1280x1024, high settings, 4x AA no problem and thus I think you'll be able to run MW2 easssyy. I've never tried pushing the card though, so I don't know at what settings the FPS will start dropping,
