龚保罗带记者到被涂鸦的停车场楼梯间，举目所见，白色墙壁佈满涂鸦，连抬头才能见到的楼梯底，楼梯侧边的墙 壁，也不放过，除了文字，有的还「搭配」漫画，或作成像字谜的涂鸦。

其中一段不满华人的字句写，「如果你是华人，就别回来」(if you are Chinese, don't come back)。

龚保罗说，上周三，监察摄录机被人砸毁，但有录得整个白人青年用棒砸烂摄录机的过程，商场已将影片交给警察 调查。而商场管理处上周四下午一度发现这群青少年重回商场，立即报警处理，可惜警察晚到两分鐘，青少年已不 知去向。

周四之后，这群青少年更留下了「Fxxk The Police」，公然辱骂警察及挑衅警察能力的涂鸦，其中在被砸毁的摄录机下面，用箭头指摄录机的「残骸 」，然后写「哈哈，警察无权、无能力」等字，明显认為警察也奈何不了他们。

天天添新涂鸦

龚保罗说，商场暂时不想花钱将墙壁恢復原貌，因為他发现，这群青少年最近几乎天天都来加一些新 涂鸦。

龚保罗表示，除了骂华人，骂警察外，楼梯间好几个地方都有人撒了尿，地上多了几处尿渍，一些新增的涂鸦明显 是有人用大麻烟去燻成。

要钱不成就恶搞

商场对这群青少年并不陌生，还有商家说青少年当中有人上门要钱不成，于是挟怨报復，涂鸦、便溺、抽大麻，故 意恶搞。

龚保罗说，比较夸张的是，这群青少年即使知道商家认出他们，但仍经常若无其事，在商场四处游荡，前天白天， 眼尖的他看到这群青少年其中两人，故意赤膊上身，大摇大摆的走，他要求两人穿上衣服，否则不能 入商场。

食肆电话被偷

帝国中心商场内的叙香园，则在最近被人偷去柜台的两组电话机，叙香园负责人夏小姐说，她不明白电话机有何值 钱，為何需要偷电话机，之前，该酒楼也曾发现有人想偷房间的音响，还好及时阻止。

夏小姐不知道，这群随手偷东西的贼人，与商场楼梯间涂鸦的人是否為同一伙，但叙香园已增加了几组监视器，加 强保安。

骑警：「已下班 明天再说」

本报昨日下午完成採访后曾向列治文皇家骑警发言人特利(Sherrdean Turley)查询，特利表示自己已经下班，暂时无法就此商场被青少年破坏及青少年种族歧视涂鸦事件作出说 明，要等到今天上班才能向警局内部进行查询。

特利还特别问，商场的人是否正在跟踪怀疑惹事的青少年，如果不是，则一切等今天再说

Richmond RCMP are looking for two white males who went on a twisted, sometimes racist rant with a felt marker at an Asian strip mall.

The two men, who were caught on security cameras, filled two levels of a stairwell at Empire One Parkade in the 4600 block of No. 3 Road with graffiti, which included threats against police and racist slurs.

One of the suspects wrote "F---k the Chinese" next to a Swastika, and wrote "KKK" beneath it.

They also wrote "187 a pig" and "187 on an undercover cop" and "F---k the police."

The term "187" is used by some police agencies to refer to a homicide, so the graffiti could be read as a threat against police.

The scrawls have all the earmarks of a tweaking crackhead indulging in a stream-of-consciousness rant.

"I just got out of jail and I'm high," one of them wrote.

The word "jailbird" also appears a few times. A number of individuals are also named in the kind sophomoric trash-talk one finds scrawled on high school bathroom stalls.

Cpl. Sherrdean Turley of the Richmond RCMP said the graffiti made "no direct threat" to anyone," but described it as "hurtful and disrespectful" and that RCMP would be making every effort to find the culprits.

Turley appealed to the public to contact the police if they know who the culprits are at 604-278-1212.

While graffiti typically would warrant a charge of mischief, Turley said the racism in the writing could raise the incident to a hate crime.

"Investigators will likely be looking at whether or not this is a hate crime," she said. "If it is determined that this fits into the category of a hate crime, then the investigation will be looked at accordingly."

The guy who did the report is an old colleague of mine from my time at UBC (so I respect his work), but it's unfortunate that his story only featured a woman who didn't really do anything to improve the image of the Chinese community by implying that Richmond is for Chinese people only.

METRO VANCOUVER — An 18-year-old man caught on surveillance video writing racially inflammatory graffiti aimed at people of Chinese origin, as well as derogatory comments toward police, on the wall of the Empire Centre parkade in Richmond was arrested Wednesday, RCMP said today.

The graffiti was reported to the Richmond RCMP on July 22; the security camera filmed the incident the previous night.

Wednesday at 3 p.m. during the course of the investigation members of Richmond RCMP’s Bike Section located the male during their patrols of the Empire Center parkade, RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said in a press release. The male was positively identified by officers and was arrested as he tried to flee the parkade, she said.

The male was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 14. Police are recommending a charge of mischief.

Two men were captured on the video and police are still searching for the second man.

Richmond RCMP have arrested a second suspect -- a 16 year old male -- in relation to racist graffiti at Empire Centre

This dick got arrested today.


METRO VANCOUVER — An 18-year-old man caught on surveillance video writing racially inflammatory graffiti aimed at people of Chinese origin, as well as derogatory comments toward police, on the wall of the Empire Centre parkade in Richmond was arrested Wednesday, RCMP said today.

The graffiti was reported to the Richmond RCMP on July 22; the security camera filmed the incident the previous night.

Wednesday at 3 p.m. during the course of the investigation members of Richmond RCMP’s Bike Section located the male during their patrols of the Empire Center parkade, RCMP Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said in a press release. The male was positively identified by officers and was arrested as he tried to flee the parkade, she said.

The male was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 14. Police are recommending a charge of mischief.

Two men were captured on the video and police are still searching for the second man.

For the second time in less than a month, racist graffiti targeting Chinese people has been found scrawled on the walls of a shopping centre in Richmond, B.C.

The anti-Chinese messages were found Monday morning in the parkade staircase of the Richmond Public Market. Police say they are looking for help from the public to identify possible suspects.

In July, two teens were arrested in connection with racist messages found in a stairwell at the Empire Centre. Those messages also targeted Chinese people, as well as women and the police.

Another thing. I'm not Chinese, but grew up in Chinatown. Back when I was in elementary school, my Chinese buddies hated the "New Canadians" as they were called (FOB term was used often even back then). They were so different from the rest of the "established Chinese Canadians". I think we're fortunate to be in Van, compared to the east (Mtl,T.O) I think most people here are pretty accepting of different cultures. When I was a kid listening to much "got rice" I felt a connection with the other asian people living in Van but when I moved to Toronto when i was 14 for a year, it was totally different. People there are all strangers to eachother it seems like (depending on which area). Because it's so big and so diverse, it's like there's not enough time to learn to accept everybody. But here, it's so small, and just different. And even the junkies will feel comfortable striking up a conversation on the train, this place is pretty friendly compared to others.

IMO, there seems to be a divide between 1st and 2nd generation Chinese.

1st still has the "school or gtfo" mentality from parents that immigrated here to Canada for a better life.

The 2nd generation, where their parents were grown up here, has become pretty much white-washed.

A lot of the Chinese stereotypes (cheap spender and good at math) originate from 1st generation.

And... I have nothing to say about the FOBs that come from Hong Kong. It's like they're a totally different beast.

Richmond RCMP have confirmed there was a fight at the school Friday night and that a knife was involved.

Police say both participants were males, but their ages have not been confirmed. Each was taken to hospital with stab wounds.
