Thanks/Fail Features Should Be Removed

No other forum uses the "Fail" button, and it doesn't serve any real purpose. It also causes more problems that it solves (if any).
The value of a "Thanks" or "Fail" is grossly overstated due to a couple friends Thank-bombing or Fail-bombing another person.
Some people are fail-happy and give fails for no reason. Likewise for thanks.
As of right now, many people are abusing the "Fail" button on people they disagree with, even if their posts are well thought-out.
I'll probably get a couple random Fails for this post too.

A couple? How about a couple of dozen.

the canucks forum uses a similar feature.
it's called a +/- rating for the post.
not the same, but close enough ;)

Why not just appreciate the "thanks" and ignore the "fails" you receive?
I really don't understand why people complain about getting failed. It's not like you have to file your fail/thank ratio with your taxes at the end of the year.

Although the fail button is used immaturely at times (most times), in certain threads, it does help weed out the posts that I don't have to bother reading, especially in something like the joke thread, or any thread with embedded youtube videos.
As long as people don't take it so seriously and threaten to sue everyone, I think it's ok.

Lol if I see a post with many fails I'll read it over others.

i like the system as is! fail abuse can be reported and dealt with so it's all good.

i think the fail button should stay. it increases the quality of the content posted.
it's like insurance, if we didn't have to pay the deductible, we would have a lot more accidents because people wouldn't care as much.
just my opinion, and how i approach the fail button.

One day we're all going to experience Fail and Thank inflation, where everyone has 1000s of fails. :lol

I think sometimes the thanks and fails are useful, but only sometimes
There are some posts which I may be less interested in, sometimes even videos in the off topic section. If I see a row of fails, I tend to not watch the video at all. And vice versa for thanked posts

Helps with the NWS thread videos a lot. I watch the ones with plenty-o thanks, and skip the ones that fail hard.

i personally think it's people just being sensitive. i'm assuming they read the fail, pride get destroyed. if they had a million thanks and ten fails they wouldn't be worried at all about the fail button. if it was something like plus or negative system or thumbs up thumbs down there wouldn't be any complaints, but regardless they're equivalent. like plus dislike negative. again, i think it's just people being a little too sensitive.
aside from that, yes there are stupid people who get carried away and fail for no reason whatsoever. those people on the other hand should lose their privilege for abusing it.

FAIL button clicked on OP.
Since neither rating actually DOES anything, getting worked up about it is ultimate fail.

I was really impressed with the maturity of everybody responding to his post and not failing him.
Till I went to do it and there was no fail icon.
