I think it's great for what it is, but some people may not like the size of the lenses. Due to the large sensor, the lenses are quite big. The great thing about this camera is that with an adapter you can fit lenses from just about every manufacturer on it.

I think it looks odd. Having a fat lens on a slim body. Like a petite asian girl with implants. I'm just curious of how the video capabilities are and how fast the af is. Although for the price I'd much rather get a t2i for a bit more

i agree it does look a bit odd with the lens and everything on specially if you get the black one coz the accessories are all silver atm i think. but the size and weight of that thing is really attractive to me

I have a nex 5, and it takes some AMAZING pictures. Mind you im no photographer, but I do like high quality images, and this definitely exceeds my expectations for the camera that it is. HD video is decent too. The only gripe i have is the zoom with the default lens doesnt magnify much, but thats what different lenses are for right?

this sounds interesting. does the adapter let you AF with lenses from other manufacturers?

I played with one while I was in the UK. I love the build quality of the camera, but found the weighting of the camera to be a bit off centre. I did love my Sony F717 (which had the off-centre lens), but I found the NEX cameras to be a bit awkward in my hands. This could be because I have gotten used to SLR-style chassis design.

Definitely not. There may be an adapter coming which will allow AF to be retained with Minolta/Sony SSM lenses though.

Is dust a problem since the sensor is so exposed?

Probably, but it does have dust removal.

Very true. A lot of people ask me what im doing when i take those and are quite impressed by the final image. It also takes them in 3d, but havent been able to test this due to my lack of a 3d tv

Wow! I've wanted to get one of these for my girlfriend who has an xsi and a 18-200. She never uses it because of the size, but i think the NEX would be a bit better package for her. Pano mode sounds cool too!

I would like to know how long the battery last(.mins). The site says "330" pictures but that's still no clear indicator of how long it'll last.

I played around with it the NEX3 and NEX5 at various store displays and between them the samsung NX10, olympus EP1 i find the NEX feels the best. the weight distribution feels easy on the hands especially compared to the EP1 which felt heavier and a bit awkward to hold.

the display is nice and fancy too. changing settings shooting in manual wont be much different for canon shooters but for a nikon shooter it will be a bit slow and annoying going into menus to change stuff and not just pressing a button and rotating the command dial.

the pancake lens makes it really feel like a real PnS too but it does focus nice and fast. If not for the price I would probably get one.

After playing around with it, the E-mount lenses aren't as sharp but it's not bad!

i hate how there is no knob to change settings (P A S M), and how every menu there is a long ass instruction explaining what it does.

^^^ You can probably turn that "n00b" function off.

because Sony stated the NEX 3 and 5 right now are targeted at point & shoot users who want to have DSLR quality with interchangeable lens.

It isn't targeted to current DSLR users. The NEX 7 prototype is expected to target DSLR users and it most likely be shown at Photokina next month with an expected release date early next year.

I am really tempted to buy too. Never owned a DSLR and have been shopping around quite awhile for one. But for $800+ is it really worth it to get this rather than a fatty DSLR?

That's a question only you can answer. I personally would not mind one, as my smallest, most used camera/lens combo currently is a Canon 5DmkII + 24-70. I do have a Sony A700 + 16-80mm Zeiss, but I never use it anymore. The NEX5 can potentially replace it for the times I don't need a huge camera.

Sharpness will depend on the lens and your hand holding ability.

...and no, the NEX does not have the best image quality of any digital camera. Where did you get that idea?

the detail smearing is pretty prominent... i'm not sure if you even have to pixel peep to see it. they should just leave the noise in and let us process it later. at least have a mode to turn this suppression off.

and the ui isn't very intuitive... but maybe it's b/c i was trying to dig thru a mainlander's unit in chinese. i imagine it's the same layout in english tho

well the firmware update made the menu system better

i think it's best to wait for the next gen. most companies never get it right on the first go

and hopefully better lenses at reasonable prices. the 16mm is so dissapointing

LA-EA1 adapter flaw.

Interesting find on the A mount to E Mount adapter.

No worries, I guess I'll just wait for the other "Higher end" lens' to come out!
