A Minnesota father and Laotian refugee who was imprisoned for killing three people with his Toyota has been released from prison. Koua Fong Lee requested a new trial following the widespread recall of Toyota vehicles.

Basically this guy's brakes didn't work and he accidentally killed some people, 2 and a half years later in prison, he's free. Thankfully because of the Toyota recalls, people started questioning the case.

I remember reading this a while ago. Thank God hes out. He seemed like a nice man in the interview and I thought him innocent for a while. Good to hear hes gout.

I wonder if he can sue Toyota for 2 years of his life...
I'd be glad to be out if I were him but at the same time I'd be really pissed at Toyota for fucking up his life so much

aren't they saying now that most of the faulty accelerator cases were due to driver error? (driver slamming on gas rather than brake) so if they find that this infact is the case is he back in jaiL?...

You might be right. I had no idea, that would suck though. I doubt he'll go, I'm sure all the judges and politicians feel the pressure from this case and want it to go away instead of re-investigating (Since the victim's family is on his side anyways). Apparently, his family was telling him to brake and he was yelling "I AM I AM" but it wouldn't. It's possible Toyota representatives might just be saying things because of the case and bad publicity, but who really knows?

Edit* also congrats on your 1000th lol

Um, if his sentence has been "fixed", does that mean he gets some kind of compensation for being wrongfully imprisoned?

I sure as hell would want something for 2 years of my life lost.

I would imagine toyota would give this guy compensation to get rid of at least some of the bad publicity this case is giving them

i don't think he will be getting any compensation because i do not think there is proof there is something wrong with toyota brakes ... it just raised enough reasonable doubt to get him out of jail

He will get money from the State of Minnesota for being wrongfully accused; however, I am not sure if he will receive compensation from Toyota.

All it takes is the jury to question whether or not the toyota brakes are at fault but to date no one has proved that toyota actually had faulty accelrator or brakes.

isn't it what the factory recall from Toyota is all about fixing them?

This shithead probably shouldn't have been put in prison in the first place but Toyota isn't to blame either. On his old POS car, the brakes could have experienced fade from overheating or his brake fluid had air or was contaminated causing his brakes to fail. The victim's family smells a corporate settlement by blaming toyota.
