| Blocked off road -- Westminster Hwy.
Anyone know what happened between Garden City & Saba on Wesminister HWY?
the cops blocked off that part of the road. at least 5 cop cars there, few busses, i saw 2 passenger vehicles, a victim's support car (something like that...), firetrucks, and i believeeee i saw smoke as well...
unfortunately i was driving, so i couldn't take pictures.
i saw this half an hour ago. didn't find anything on news1130.
anyone else see this?

all I know is that it started maybe around midnite. I don't think the fire is anywhere close to getting put off yet. One off the unit doesn't seem to like water. The fire just keeps going.

i live 2 blocks off where it happened. it started around midnight. i smelled burning smoke coming from my window fan. i thought my building was on fire so i ran outside to check. i saw a big cloud of smoke overlooking the kwantlen area. I drove there to find westminster blocked off from garden city to cooney. i saw the apartment across kwantlen burning like crazy. Kodamu is right that the apartment building is DONE cuz the last image i saw was the top of the building engulfed in flames! not smoke coming out of the windows or balcony, im talking whole top was flaming yellow!
i hope no one got hurt and everyone got out in time.

Be the first to Comment 0 Recommendation(s) RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - One person is dead and several others are injured after a massive fire at an apartment building in Richmond overnight.
It happened at 1:45 a.m. at a three-storey structure on Westminster Highway near Garden City Road.
Ted Townsend with the City of Richmond says many people also had to be rescued from their balconies. "B.C. Ambulance dealt with about 10 residents on site, with a variety of health issues, smoke inhalation and things like that. A number of them were taken to hospital, but I don't believe there were any other serious injuries in that group."
Two neighbouring buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution, but the buildings weren't damaged. No word on the cause. | news1130

I live really close the building. Was about to sleep at around 1:45 and heard a loud ringing noise which was their fire alarms going off. The worst part was watching one family that was stuck on their 3rd floor balcony. Thankfully the firemen got them out safely via a huge ladder. I finally went to bed 3 hours later, once the blaze looked under control. My heart goes out to the families affected. Props to the firemen who put the fire out.
Here are some pics:
Started on the left side of the building and spread to the back and middle of the building.
Where it started.
Where it stopped.
