SLS Pwned

Swedish Mercedes SLS AMG Impounded by Swiss Police

Swiss police have impounded a brand new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG that belonged to a 37-year old Swedish guy. The black Mercedes SLS AMG was impounded after the driver flew past a highway radar in the Swiss province of Freiburg 170km/h to fast. The police clocked the SLS AMG at 290km/h where 120km/h is allowed.
We know the Swiss are strict when it comes to speeding but reports in German media suggest the Swedish driver can face a penalty up to 1,08 million Swiss Francs (about € 782.000). Therefor the police did not only confiscate his license but also impounded his SLS AMG as a security for the potential penalty.
In Switzerland every speeding offense over 30km/h to fast is considered a criminal offense and the drivers income and wealth is considered when the judge rules on the penalty. A spokesperson for the local traffic authority suggests this will apply to this driver as well and that would be a first as the income based fines in Switzerland so far have only been applied to Swiss nationals.
The Mercedes SLS AMG can only be saved by a really good lawyer or by swallowing the bitter pill, the advice to everyone else would be to take it easy the next time they visit this little country in the Alps!

€ 782.000... the penalty in swiss is pretty hardcore and i like how they determine the fine by one's income and wealth

WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE SPEEDING TICKET

Excerpt from: Switzerland millionaire hit by record speed fine

A Swiss millionaire has been handed down a record speeding fine of $290,000 (£180,000) by a court.

The man was reportedly caught driving a red Ferrari Testarossa at 137km/h (85mph) through a village.

The penalty was calculated based on the unnamed motorist’s wealth – assessed by the court as $22.7m (£14.1m) – and because he was a repeat offender.

It is more than double Switzerland’s previous record speeding fine – handed to a Porsche driver in Zurich in 2008.

In the latest case, the motorist was clocked speeding 57km/h (35mph) faster than the limit, according to the cantonal court in St Gallen, eastern Switzerland.

“The accused ignored elementary traffic rules with a powerful vehicle out of a pure desire for speed,” the court said in its judgement.

Swiss media reported that the man owns a villa with five luxury cars, including the Ferrari.

If they tried to impose speeding tickets like that here I don't think anyone would pull over. Yikes!

What? Why?
You commit a crime, you crossed a line knowing full well what the penalties are.

Penalties would/should be set for possible damage done, and ability to curb said activity.

Let's say it's $1,000,000 fine if you speed over 20km/h the posted limit.
Why should the consequences be the same for somebody who's chosen a life of unproductive crime, vs somebody who's created a good business and employs many others?

I'm sorry man, but way to fail at understanding a good criminal justice system.

The reasoning there is that being fined by income will actually make EVERYONE think twice about breaking the law again. If the fine is... say a flat $200 for going 20kph over, it's going to hurt those who are barely making it but Mr. Multimillionaire will just scoff and pay the fine over and over. They can pay a fine for everyday of the year for the rest of their lives. Lesson not learned for the rich...
