I wasn't sure because I remember seeing an article that the Judge ruled out, and BC-ers still have to pay the sales tax and are not exempt from it. But I remember there were some people that went to the States recently and said otherwise...

So for the people that went down to the states recently, are you ELIGIBLE for an EXEMPTION from sales tax

Thank you for the quick answer

from the other post it sounded like only one city was making people pay.

It used to be isolated to Whatcom County (Bellingham), but now it's all-state last time I went.

I went last week and apparently, that rule doesn't exist anymore.

I went to the Premium outlets and downtown Seattle.

Hope this helps. Went to states early august.
At #202 outlet only certain stores are tax exempt. Shoe stores and CK were tax exempt but when I bought some stuff at bath and beyond (soap bars for mom) it wasnt.
The sales guy said small companies are not tax exempted unlike bigger brand stores.

Then went to seattle downtown, macys, and after purchasing some clothing the sales guy was super nice and told me I get 11% coupon (with out of town passport proof) plus no tax at all!!
But whats weird was he knew my passport said BC but the receipt said AB.

At the end, still saved some money.
Have fun at states.

They should charge you tax, but some cashiers are dumber than others. Just hope you get one that doesn't know the rules!

Bottom line - it doesn't hurt to ask about the no tax exemption!

hit and miss for us yesterday. Some did it, others not. Agreed with above posters as it doesn't hurt to ask because some people just don't know that it's no longer going down...

I thought the judge's ruling on the BC tax exemption screwed over the Albertans as well...
