Modded G5 Mouse - Pictures!

I was inspired by the R.A.T. mouse: conventional ergonomics be damned, a mouse will be just as comfortable when the points of contact are only at specific points anyway.
It fits so much better in my hand now. No more stupid thumb and pinky grips; my fingers can finally go where they want and I get the control I always felt was being robbed of me.
The thing is way lighter now too. The shell is like a brick.
Taking suggestions on what else to do to it!! =D

Exactly what I was gonna say. It looks really uncomfortable with all those sharp edges.

Actually I didn't take any pieces off the casing: I ripped the entire casing out. Then I glued the button piece straight onto the base. But okay underscore, what would have been a better way to describe this in a thread title?

It's actually really comfortable; it's the same concept as with the R.A.T. mouse. Your hand doesn't actually contact any of the sharp edges. At least if you hold your mouse in a claw grip like I do, vs palming it.

sick build thread. any future plans?

Haha now that you mention it, I'm thinking about transplanting a wireless transceiver into this thing.
Time to put my EE degree to use.

Stripped G5 mouse? that button piece is part of the casing anyways...
also if you make this wireless (no clue why you'd bother?) where do you plan to fit the batteries?

Hey, I have a logitech G7. Basically a G5 but wireless, I'll be removing the body panels and maybe add a turbo in the future. Plus my mouse has this carbon fiber lookalike overlay!

That looks pretty retarded to be honest. Go buy yourself a new mouse if your old one doesn't fit your needs.

Install intercooler for long gaming session.

Haha jesus you guys need to get the fuck off RS if you're so against modding things because you can. Point is, it felt fat in my hand and it sucked to claw it because of the thumb and pinky grips. So I did something about it. It's an 6 year old G5, who cares?
underscore: the G7 has battery packs that slot right into where the weight cartridges go; I may look into picking up a G7 for the power system and wireless transceiver.
J_____: I still have full access to the thumb button. What I've lost is the two DPI mode buttons, but I've never touched them before after I settled on one DPI setting so I figured I'd leave it out.
TOS'd: I think the G7 looks like ass with the friggin checkered flag :lol. I didn't even know that was supposed to be CF.
TRDood: I am getting a new mouse. This G5 was originally a friend's throwaway that I'm using temporarily til Logitech replaces my VX Revolution. It's in the mail at the moment.

Modding for purpose is one thing. Modding by ripping the ergonomic parts of a mouse off and making it look like a broken piece of shit is another.
It would be like modifying a Porsche by taking off the windshield. WOO I MODDED MY PORSCHE!!!

Like I said, all the ergonomic parts that actually TOUCH my hand are still intact. The only bits of my hand that touched the shell I ripped out was the thumb and pinky grips, which I wanted to get rid of. So now my thumb and pinky touch the mousepad: this is what I wanted.

Cool, so back on topic.
I'm thinking about lowering the height of the buttons, the mouse still feels kinda tall. Seems I have the necessary clearance, but I'm not sure if doing this would make it suck to use the scroll wheel then. Thoughts?

I may have some G7 components that I can donate. Basically it has the double click issue that some Logitechs seem to get. I still need to RMA it to get a replacement but after that I have no use for it.

1) this still isn't really a "mod"
2) forgive my ignorance but what's the difference between the 5 and 7? why not just use the 7 instead of continuing this bastardization?

I was thinking more like removing the doors and the top portions of the seats.

underscore:
1)Because I don't have a G7 at my disposal. I do have a G5.
2)K well I'm really sorry that I'm not living up to your expectations on the word "modded". But this is what I found at dictionary.com:
mod·i·fy [mod-uh-fahy] Show IPA verb, -fied, -fy·ing.
–verb (used with object)
1.
to change somewhat the form or qualities of; alter partially; amend: to modify a contract.
Maybe we should write in to dictionary.com, you and me. We'll get these bastards. :lol

Go with coilovers. And add some underglow or something.

Dude that would be seriously awesome.
Hopefully you're able to find your old receipt so they won't ask for your defective one back first. I couldn't find mine. =(

Haha I could actually add "underglow" but I think it'd be too distracting for daily use. My friend's got a Razer Lachesis and the first thing he ever did was shut the rice light off, precisely because it was irritating. Looked cool though.

you also removed some function of the mouse by also removing the buttons..
why not just buy a light weight mouse instead of ripping apart a perfectly fine one?

imo the g5 was perfectly fine.. and also i think the mouse has one of the most comfortable grips.. sure at first its kinda hard to get used to, but later on when you game it is veryy grippy and good for normal use.
i have the cf g7 too :lol!
i spilled coffee on the table and some went underneath the mouse.. the battery and everything is fine but the cursor doesnt really move.. anyone know the fix?
if no one does i think i can give it to you if you want lol
right now i think you should paint the silver/copper part of the housing to gloss black or sth.. it kinda looks hideous imo..

Funktion: I replied to your thread, there's definitely a good chance it's salvageable. But like I said, if we can't help you fix it, it'd be really great if you could donate it for spare parts.

rice out their mouse.
-already stated I'm not entertaining suggestions to rice it out by "adding underglow" because then it'd be irritating. Read the fucking thread!
you also removed some function of the mouse by also removing the buttons..
why not just buy a light weight mouse instead of ripping apart a perfectly fine one?
-already stated that all I've lost is the ability to adjust DPI, and I already said I don't use. Read the fucking thread!
-I AM buying a new mouse. Read the fucking thread!
Keep it coming assholes. :lol

clean the sensor on the bottom, it's probably got a film of coffee on it.

why dont you just donate that mouse or give it to someone instead ruining it? its no lost to you since it was given to you in the first place..

Because it's not ruined. Nothing I've done has been irreversible......... yet. ;)
Fits my hand a lot better while I'm waiting on a replacement anyway, so I'm pretty happy with it. You know, aside from you pricks giving me a hard time about it. :lol
