i got one very similar... i'd do all that, except the body lift... here's mine... keep in mind, this is a pavement princess... first time it's been off road (the truck, not me)

what year is yours? 96? 97? 98?
my actual wheeling rig is a 90 3.0 4x4 4runner auto with sliders, and OME rear coils... everything else is BONE STOCK

It's a 97 looking at getting some 12" fox shocks off pirate right now and I'm going with the heavy duty OME spings in the rear as well. This is my fourth toy so far. I had a 89 p/u, 88 runner, and a 87 fully exo'd p/u locked front and rear that I never took out. I just need a good DD that could get me to the good spots with no problem.

yeah... the red truck in the pic runs on OME medium coils... 881/890 i believe... on nitrocharger shocks... rides really really well.. except i keep about 80lbs in the trunk for comfort reasons...
if ur interested, i got some landcruiser coils you can have for cheep... fits right into the back of your truck... i ran them and couldn't fit into a home garage, so i had to run something with less lift...

It's a nice 4runner you have and it's good to see you actually using it. You should really take those running boards off it gives it a way nicer look and more clearence.
Here's a pic of my runner with the 3" coil spacer lift and with the running boards off. As well with the new tires but they rub way to much so I need to get a 2" body lift now :(

LOL, nice to see a couple 4x4'ers. I've got a 92 runner. Needs a rear locke something bad, probably going to get an Aussie.
Haven't decided what to do for suspension. I'm kinda torn on the body lift/coil spacer thing. I wanna either do an OME lift but I know that down the line i'm going to want something more so i'm debating if I should just wait and get the trail gear stuff and do a sas...

^ no contest there. Just save up a little more and go solid axle with the trail gear kit. I have helped install a couple of those kits, good quality parts and easy to come by.

East stave down Sylvester is a awesome spot, not to far away and tons of trails. As well East and West harrison is really good for camping and exploring old logging roads and Norrish has awesome trails as well but they closed it down for some logging for something.
I used to have a 87 toy p/u exo'd and all that but I didn't have the money so I had to sell it.

Was supposed to do West Harrison to Pemberton today but homework won. How long does it take to go there and back assuming no problem?
Wondering if I can do it after work on a weekend.

Well I actually got some more work finished today. Just need to tighten the body mounts up toss on the tires and fit, paint and weld on the sliders and I will be good to go :D
I was going to change the timing change and water pump but found out it was changed at 94k for some reason and with only 218k on the truck and being in mint shape no point changing it. I guess I bought a timing belt, water pump and T-stat for no reason :(

truck looks pimpin'!
the only problem most people have with their stock rims is when tire shops hammer on wheel weights without waxing the rim edge first... and then strip them off without lube... that's what happened to mine...
let me know if ur actually selling your rims.. if they're reasonably priced, i'll strongly consider it... i need a set of tires to run on for the time being as baaaald BFG all terrains are scary in the rain, and my new tires are currently on back order... :(

P265/75R16" michelin LTX AT2
they're currently on biiiiig time back order... my BFG all-terrains are really bald and i wasn't too fond of them... if i bot a second set of rims, i'm putting dedicated winter tires on them... a third set of wheels would have 32" mudterrain KM2
murd0c
10-19-2010, 11:02 PM
nice, I'm going to keep my stock tires if I want to go on longer road trips so I don't have to worry about my good tires. Have you looked around for the tires or thought about going down south to get them?
narfy
10-20-2010, 07:14 AM
they're on backorder everywhere i've checked... USA and canada... michelin usa has 200+ of them on back order... sucks...
i'm looking for the AT2 with the lowest load index... looking for the best "one tire does most" type of thing...
i just caved in and got sick of waiting for the michelin AT2, so on my truck now are another set of BFG AT...

your rock sliders are bolt on, or weld on? i gotta see pics!! kuz i've been wanting to get rock sliders for my truck for quite some time... but i don't know what looks good...
murd0c
11-05-2010, 07:44 AM
I would only go with weld on slider.s I actually got the 68" ones from trail gear and they are awesome. I will post some pics for you when they are done.
narfy
11-05-2010, 09:31 AM
yeah... i thot about the TG ones... only issue is, both my wife and i are fairly short... so we need something to step on to get into the truck... i'm prolly gonna get a set, and have checker plate welded on the top, then spray bed liner onto them for grip... but i want a bolt on set... i could just have brackets made up, and then the sliders welded onto those brackets... we'll see... i'm in no rush...
murd0c
11-05-2010, 06:36 PM
One big thing never spray bedliner onto rock sliders or step bars. Yes it may give you grip but in the summer or even if you are wearing light pants you will really scrape up your legs bad and you can't get it off. Best bet would be to add a different handle so you could pull your self up easier.
You don't want to drop them to low either since you will lose ground clearence and it will be easier to tear them off.

murd0c
11-06-2010, 05:24 PM
You could still remove them but you would have to cut them off
Just finished having my alarm installed at rise and they ended up hooking me up with a wicked Alumina h4 kit, that should be perfect for ripping down a logging road at light

Hey Reece I'm no Toyota pro but that timing belt doesn't look mint to me and I chatted with Akira about it and he agrees. He also agrees timing belts should be changed by the 80-100k mark. But he is also no Toyota pro this is just common practice. Now if your going to run it for much longer and take a chance I'd find out if it's an interference motor cus if it is and the belt gives way then you will have screwed a whole lot of valves at the very least. If its not an interference motor and you'd like to chance it just keep up to date with BCAA.
Timing chains generally are good for 200k's but not belts.
narfy
11-20-2010, 12:25 PM
that toyota timing belt is easily good for 150k... it's a really wide belt... it'll be fine...
toyota timing chains are good for the lifetime of the engine, in most cases...
the 5VZ-FE engine is NOT an interference engine... so if it snaps, it's not a big deal.. ur stranded and you need a tow... worst part is, if the belt snaps, you're almost always in a bad spot, in an area not easily accessible by tow truck...

11-20-2010, 11:33 PM

Aussie lockers are fine. It's just a part time locker which only kicks in if you really step on it. If you are worried I would go with a selectable but those are pricey.

I'm putting them on a slight angle about 1/2" from hitting my door. I'm more wanting to protect my rocker plannels and so they won't get caught or hung up on anything while on a trail.
I just grab the steering wheel to get in, easy enough.

So my "new" '92 4Runner has a host of issues, but the first one is that the 4WD indicator does not work. The 4WD works, but the indicator doesn't work because the cable that should connect to the front axle is not attached. I've tried looking on the axle, and also at a parts diagram, but I can't figure out where the thing plugs into!
Can anyone help me?
narfy
12-21-2010, 11:50 AM
there's a harness that runs down the left side of the engine bay and down onto the front differential...
your 4WD isn't working if your 4WD indicator does not come on... the 4WD indicator is a confirmation that your driveline is locked... the front differential plug plays a large role in locking your driveline...
freakshow
12-23-2010, 08:45 AM
narfy, thanks for the tips. The seller (also my friend) said that the 4WD drive was working, just the indicator was out.. so I guess he was wrong. Any tips on how I go about fixing the issue? or plugging the harness back in?
I tried to take a peek under the car.. but couldn't find where it's supposed to connect to..
narfy
12-23-2010, 11:21 AM
the front differential has a vacuum actuator on it... if that's not plugged in, your 4WD doesn't work...

Confirm first by makeing sure you front drive shaft isn't turning. You don't have locking hubs do you? I heard of people before who bought a truck couldnt get the 4x4 engaged and they didn't know they had to lock there hubs in first.
I also picked up a marlin crawler E-locker guard from BCC today
