Hey guys, so I broke a hinge on my laptop. Called up Acer and they told me to take it to ANY computer repair shop. So I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions on shops that deal with these things and your experiences with particular shops.

I just fixed my own. Bought a new top cover w/hinge and swapped it over. Wasn't that hard.

Within about six months the new one was cracking too. Acer was unsympathetic. Fuck Acer, will never ever buy or recommend another Acer product.

Ten or so years ago, I had an NEC laptop that had the same problem. When I called NEC to ask about order a replacement part, they told me it was a known problem, sent a courier to pick it up (supplied the packaging as well), and had it back to me within a week, completely repaired (including a new bottom case, which they found also had a small crack)... all completely free (including the call to their 1-800 number). THAT is good customer service!
