How long do you keep your cars for?
I bought my car recently on April but been thinking recently on selling/trading for a second gen gs300/400. But its way too soon even thinking of buying a different car. Im probably going to keep my car til next year until I reach my goals. Just wondering what are the factors in you getting a different car. Is it you just get bored with it? New project?

I change cars when I get bored . My next car will be a hardtop convertible and I plan to keep it for as long as it runs.

Got my license a year ago. I'm on to my 4th car. No, I didn't crash them, and no, my parents did not pay for them.
Hoping to make my 5th within the next few months.

On average, I go through 2 cars a year. The Accord I've owned for just slightly over a year now and it's the longest I've ever held onto a single vehicle. :lol My record is 5 cars in one year.
I have terrible car ADD. I buy a car, mod it, enjoy it for a couple months, then flip it for a new one.
I would say 6 years, thats the point to make the decision, usually at 6 years cars would worth about 50% of what it was new. after that it just drop, so if I am selling the car I would do it around 6 years or else I would keep it till it no longer runs

I'll never sell my AE86. Had it for 12 years now so we're pretty much inseparable. My daily driver gets switched up every couple of years.

What do you drive that you're already bored with it?
I'm into year 9 of owning my car and everytime I think of selling it I look around and nothing really interests me, or it is priced too high, or the number of problems scares me away, or the vehicle doesn't have a feature of my car that I like (heated seats, auto dimming mirrors, one touch signals, RWD hatch, glass roof, ...).
So instead of buying a new car, I bought a bike.

Maybe paying HST on every used car purchase will put an end to this :)

Your car is awesome chef.
I miss my little hatch.
:(
Which is why I won't be selling my cars for a while. I love my STi, and now am happy with the new turbo. The Beaumont is in need of a ton of work, which is awesome because I have time to repair it properly now. The Tundra is great, and under warranty for 5 years so I won't have to worry about that. I don't know why I went through over 30 cars in 18 years. Maybe I was looking for something that just wasn't there?

I drive a soarer. I'm not too bored with it but I want a more comfortable daily driving car. Scraping through some speed bumps and ramps aint exactly the best feeling.
Seeing everyones replies, I must get bored of cars easily -___-

I'll be buried in my truck most likely upside down off some logging road or trail. In other words I'll drive it till I'm dead. Most my other cars or trucks I've kept for an average of about two years

I've owned my 330 for close to 7 yrs and it still have more features than a lot of new cars. The e46 body is aging really well and it's still a looker to this day.

I always tell people I would drive my car for life, but whenever I get home and start browsing the RS Buy/Sell threads, I get all these tempting ideas.
I'd say averagely 7 years if the car is still in good shape.

Nah. I buy shells or cars with blown motors, so the purchase price is usually dirt cheap, if not often free. And since I get a huge discount at Mopac and a couple of other performance shops, I'm already paying much less than retail. ;) HST what?

I don't think i ever sell my car now, I think it worth way more than the market price, cause i take too good care of it! Paid 40k tax in 2 years ago now worth 20k and going down :P

I drive mine to the ground. Lately, I've been looking around... preparing to move on cuz I think my car's on it's last legs. I've never sold a car, it either died, was stolen or written off. I thought my current car was going to be written off last year when I was rear ended but stupid ICBC decided to fix it.

I've always thought about selling my daily driver for the last 8 years (92 GS-R), but when it really comes down to it, I can't really let it go. There aren't many cars these days that offer a combination of fun, ergonomics, reliability, and practicality. There are a few cars that maybe come close to what I'd want in a car (Mazdaspeed 3, Audi A3, etc.), but why spend the money and lose the depreciation when my car will easily run for another 10 years with basic maintenance? My car isn't worth much on the used market these days, so there's really no sense in selling it.
On the other hand, I still had the itch to drive something different, so I bought an E30 for shits and giggles.

I am on my 23rd car right now.
I buy cars because I love them, I buy cars because they are cheap, I buy cars to flip them and make money.
My favorite cars that I have owed are
- 1970 GTO
- 1988 Prelude
- 2003 350Z
I also miss my 1974 Maverick too. It was a sleeper that was fast, cheap and reliable. Too bad it was ugly as shit. :)

I had owned my impreza since Dec 2005. Had plans on selling the suby for the last year but never went through with it. The trade in value just isn't worth a new car. Looking for a used vehicle that I can possibly tag on an additional 1-2k but at the same time i'm saving up for a place. damn choices!

longest i've kept a car is 2 years. shortest i've kept a car is 6 days. im on my 29th car now since 2002. i think the reason why i change cars so often is because my perfect car doesn't exist.

They either blow or get written off.
Or I can't afford it anymore.
I'm starting to rethink this whole car thing. I might just get a bike finally. Been planning to for the past 5 years.

when i had my accord i thought i'd keep it for 4 years and chuck it, turns out after a few months i decided once i had enough money for WRX i'd sell it.
once i got my 240 i' thought i'd mod it to cars that are on importtuner lol, but i found the g35 much more attractive.
now, that i have my G35, i'll be keeping it for at least 5 years or until i finish school, but at the same time i can't think of anything i want more than this that isn't too expensive.
so 4 years, and i've only been through 3 cars and one scooter.

I think I lost count. Should be on my 23rd car right now since 2002. Almost always have two. Most I had at a time was 4 cars.
I think I should around the break even mark right now or at most -$1500 including all the cars I've either sold and or kept.

When my father was a bachelor, he used to go through cars every 3-6 months too. He was able to do this at a time when living costs were low and job security was high. With living costs as high as they are with respect to wages, I think it would be very hard on the pocket book to go through cars every 3 months because you always lose money in fees, insurance, and general repairs. Of course, if you look hard enough and are patient, you will sometimes find a diamond in the rough that you can flip a few months down the road for a small profit, but these are few and far between.
When people buy used, they are always looking for a deal and most are not willing to necessarily give you a price that reflects the amount of money you've put into a car.

Depends on your needs I guess.
I had a boring automatic Honda Civic and it didn't take me long (1.5 years) to realize I needed something better. There was nothing wrong with the Civic except it was just an appliance. I don't plan on selling my S2000 for a loooooong time unless my situation changes drastically.

But you see, this has been waiting for 5 years. Accident prone or not, the decision has been made.
Go do it spugen, get a bike. Go show 'em what you're made of inside. Don't listen to taylors subtle reference to the darwin effect, or any possible reference to statistics and probability. Prove you can do it!!
