I did powerskating level 1 at the north shore but it wasn't really what i expected. They just went over general powerskating skills (crossovers, tight turns, backwards skating) but never went into the finer details of improving those skills. I understand that you have to practice to get better but I didn't really expect to pay 240 bux for practice time when I can just go to stick and puck for much cheaper.
I signed up for the hockey puckhandling program at 8 rinks, work on my hands of stone. Anyone do it before? How's the program? Hope its better than what i did with powerskating.

Buy one of those weighted balls and practice stick handling on dry land with it.
Can't remember the exact name of it, but they are the same weight as a puck.
Start off standing with your feel should length apart and place some hockey pucks or full cans on the ground. Line them up so you can practice stick handling in a figure 8 motion in front of you.
After a while, try it without looking down. Try to get the feel for it.
Try placing the obsticles in an L shape to practice toe drags.
Then try doing the same things to the side.
This should be a good start.
Then move on to a light plastic "wiffle" ball. Those tend to bounce a lot more so it really works on getting you soft hands.
If you find this to be quite simple, then tape some pucks to your stick so you have a heavier stick to help build more arm strength.
