class 5 question
im planning to take my class 5 in a 09 civic, the one with the digital speedometer
are they gonna be super picky if the thing reads 51, theres no needle to be judged just a big fat number, or am i gonna be ok

you'll be fine as long as you stay between 50-55 try aiming closer to 50-53
i wouldn't go faster than that.

Try your best to stick to 50, 40 in residential streets and 30 in school and park zones. goodluck I passed mine 2 weeks ago.

as long as you stick +/- 5km/h of the speed limit.
one huge tip is to get an instructor for 1 hour sometime before the test to see if you picked up any bad habits in the past 2 years.

Try sticking to 50.. But +/- 3-5km/h is alright.
And find an instructor prior to the test, I picked up a lot of bad habit in my two year lol

class 5 is the easiest test of all.
With that digital speedometer, it should be even easier for you to keep the speed because its right in front of your face.

AFAIK...there is ZERO tolerances in 30km/h school & playground zone.
it is an auto fail if you go above 30km/h, try to stay at 20-25km/h around school zone.

they didn't even ask me to parallel park lol. i even managed to roll through a long sweeping right turn instead of stopping (since it was a red light) and pass.

They didn't ask me to parallel either. This was before they even had the graduated licensing program

i don't believe that testing parallel parking or three point turns is mandatory for the class 5. When I did my class 5 i didn't do any parking tests at all

My driving instructor always told me its better to be slower then faster in a driving test, its not that hard to keep it steady 47-50km/h. i always thought it was +/- 4km/h because thats the leeway for a speedometers accuracy

Like above, the parallel park (which was dead simple the way they test it) and 3 point are only on the N test, not the class 5. Don't go more than 10k below the limit and if the cars an auto be sure you don't do any rolling stops.
If you're too slow, you can fail too.
Exactly. On my N test the guy got mad at me for going too slow (narrow residential street with lots of trees and kids :blushsmile:)

Yeah I know that, but if your a confident driver you should be able to keep a +-3km speed rating..

the biggest part of this test is merging onto the highway and exiting. the rest of the exam, my tester mostly had his head down.. i was even able to drive through a stale yellow without him mentioning anything lol.
my one piece of advice is to constantly scan and never zone out. my tester said that could easily make or break passing the exam. good luck! i passed my about 2-3 weeks ago.

After I passed my Class 5 test, the examiner gave me an extra tip that some people don't notice.
Apparently when you are about to make left turns on an intersection, you should always keep the wheel straight, not slight left. If you can't see the on-comming cars well enough, it's okay to go a bit more further out, but at least still keep the wheel straight. The point of this was in case of an unfortunate rear-ending from behind, at least the car would not bounce forward to an on-comming traffic.
The only tip my examiner gave me after the test. Hope this helps some way to build stronger confidence in both you and the examiner.

I managed to pass mine in the same car. The instructor told me that he was judging speed control by +/- 10% of the legal speed limit, and some variation depending on the situation. He gave a few pointers at the end: yellow speed signs =/= speed limit, not to stay behind large trucks if you can pass them, etc.

My instructor warned me of that couple years back when I did drivers ed.
As for the test, like others mentioned, book an appointment with an instructor to catch the bad habits. My gf, did that and passed no problem.

are you doing it at point grey? if you are watch out for the jericho beach path the WHOLE thing is 30 lolololo
and try to maintain +/- 5 on the speedometer
