Anyone in the open beta? If so how is it? I'm still downloading the client.

I haven't played XI, but the gameplay seems kind of slow? Like an actual turn based system or something from what I've seen from youtube videos. I guess I'm just used to WoW when your character pretty much just attacks non stop.

Will see how this is, maybe this'll prevent me from getting Cataclysm.

registered but couldn't get the download page to load due to congestion. played XI for over 5 years and enjoyed it a lot. only downfall of the game was it was hard to find enough people to party with. but they improved it near the last few years of the game and will probably implement those changes to XIV.

I played FFXI for 3 years. Lots of fun but I don't know if I will have time to play FFXIV.
It is a very slow game and everything just takes forever to finish.
Level 50 cap quest in FFXI... oh man, just takes forever to get a group up and all those fail wipes.

to make the downloads faster,
go to My Documents -> My Games -> FF14 Beta -> Downloads -> ffxiv-beta
in there are 2 folders or so, and there is a torrent inside

use BT to download the patches it would make life much easier

Played for maybe 15mins today then I had to go but I'll give it another go tonight. I must say that this game LOOKS amazing. The graphics are really really good. I wasn't really expecting it to look this good.

Haven't played a FF game in a long time, since X and that was a long time ago. I've played a good number of MMO's and I think FF is one of the slowest, combat wise. I'm used to just hacking and slashing with damage just spewing. I'm trying to get used to it, I know that eventually I will.

Will play some more when I have some time tonight. I have a feeling that this'll keep me away from WoW hopefully even after Cataclysm comes out.

i played FFXI for almost my entire university life, that game was an awesome time killer.
It was slow but the freinds built on that game is pretty cool. The age on that game was relative older, usually 18+ if not older. Hence why i enjoyed it a little more then WoW.

I had closed beta, didn't play it as much due to SC2. but i expec this game to bej ust as good =P Slower then WoW or similiar type, but very JP in style.

Can't wait =)

Played FFXI for 4 years.. Level caps weren't that difficult with a good linkshell :) FFXI has the level sync going on now which makes it much easier to level, but your skill level will fall behind really quick.

Played WoW for about 3 years? Nothing compared to FFXI. Like people said, FFXI is really slow which is good! Makes you stay longer.

But this open beta they limited it to the max.. so don't expect this to be the real deal. It's not even close apparently. Pre-ordered my game a couple months back and I can't wait for its release! :D We should have a RS Linkshell lol

Not anymore. Quit after rank 30 con. The new SP system encourages players to grind on weak coblyns and puks. 60 SP each kill, 20 seconds duration. While this is really quick SP grinding, it gets so boring after 2 hours.

I miss the days when large parties go to Treespeak/Mistbeard Cove for Efts, Camp Riversmeet for Peistes, Mor Dhona for ugly frogs. The SP was random, but it was at least challenging. Now you just go around smacking things that won't even damage you, and die in 2 hits.

4.5 year bump. I'm enjoying the game, I play pretty casually just messing around. Enjoy the environments and the main quest line. I'm on the Jenova server if anyone still plays. I don't have any character class above level 35.

On a side note, there is a game coming to NA / EU called 'Blade and Soul' looks pretty good. Looks like a hack n slash version of FF14. Closed beta comes out in a few weeks, should check it out if you guys like that sort of thing.

Blade and Soul has taken forever for a NA release. Never mind the closed beta. You can download and try the early revision of the game for free.
