I've known him for over 5 years and I am friends with his cousin so I trusted he was a legit business person with a dealer license. His girlfriend was also in on it with him. She goes by Sunytha Ly but her real name is Saysamone S Phanouvong.

He was supposed to fly to LA and buy the car already and have it delivered to me in the Seattle area.

I wired him the money a month ago (around 8/4/2010), he's been in LA for over 2 weeks (update: he finally came back after 3 months) and I keep getting the run around.

Anybody else a victim of his shady practices?

Being a "friend" I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt to make this right. He did sign a contract and gave me an invoice and bill of sale so I have that.

Updates:

3.18.2011 - They are currently homeless and moving from place to place and also staying in hotels. Believed to be residing in the Burnaby area. Can be spotted at Crystal Mall and Metro Town. Several collections agencies and fraud departments are Sunytha and Nakhon including Future Shop, Rogers Communications, TD Bank, and Anthony owes Revenue Canada $5000. This is all according to supposed documents abandoned at the rental house.

8-5-2010 - Wire transfer clear. Anthony was very responsive to texts until I wired the money. Now he would take several hours to respond or he would have Sunytha talk for him. He claimed he was busy wrapping up things at the shop before the trip and customers kept coming in.


8-19-2010 - Anthony finally flies to LA to supposedly pay for the car with my money and have it shipped.

9-2-2010 - I discover the VIN he gave me is for a car at auction that isn't even the same color as the car I agreed to buy through him. I freak out but think OK he's giving me the run around waiting for this auction to end and maybe he's planning to paint the car and fix the bumper damage. 9-5-2010 - Anthony claims the deal with the seller is almost finalized and he has papers to prove it and he will send me pictures of the papers. He ends up sending me pictures of a car that I discovered were actually pictures for a car on Autotrader being sold in Utah. I tell him I've had enough and I'm calling the cops and he claims he accidently sent me the wrong pictures and will send the correct ones ASAP.

9-9-2010 - He said he would send me the correct pictures ASAP but to him that means 4 days. This car is actually a Canadian spec car and one of the forum members found it on Autotrader.ca being sold in Alberta.

9-15-2010 - His third and final attempt to try to make me believe he purchased a car. Thanks to some forum members the exact location one of these pictures was taken was located in the San Francisco bay area using Google Street View. The EXIF data on the photos also says they were taken in May and June of 2009.

10-25-2010 - I tracked scammers down to a Motel 6 outside of LA. Had ABC Legal stake them out for a couple days and then Anthony was served when he opened the door to his hotel room. Affidavit from a very reputal process serving and investigation firm. I sent them photos of the 2 in advance so they would be sure to get the correct people. The front desk verified that somebody under that name was registered there.

11-2-2010 PM - Anthony finally returned home to Canada after being in LA since August 19th and contacted his landlord who has been trying to collect on rent. His landlord said he wanted all o them out of the house because of they were late on rent, utilities, and he heard about the scams they have been pulling. Anthony told his landlord that he took care of my situation and it was all a misunderstanding. The next day the landlord asked for more details and Anthony told him that he shipped the car and he didn't know why I was being such a dick about it when he's doing me a favor. A couple days later the landlord went to collect rent and told him he should get me my car and it's not worth going to jail for and Anthony told him he paid somebody for the car and got scammed so he did his part.

I tried. He isn't a "real" dealer where he has the funds to go get cars for people and hope to be paid back. He has a business license and said he uses it to help friends and family get better deals on cars. I didn't wire him the money right away. I took a week to research him and didn't see anything bad. Now I know I should have used some better search words :(

Yes that's correct. He said he would pay for shipping and give me some parts as a sponsorship deal so I could represent his shop. I have little kids and I'm busy at work so I can't leave work and fly off to buy a car and drive it back like I used to. I trusted him to take care of me.

this guy is a scammer. I "knew" him personally. That shop is not even his, its somebody elses shop that he used to hang around claiming he runs it.
That picture posted was from 2 years ago, they have since moved out and cut ties with anthony cause he scmmed them out of money also.
I've heard of him scamming anything from $10 to $3000, but this is just fucked up....
i seriously don't know how this dude is still going.

you should take him to court immediately it wouldn't affect the outcome because the suit can be canceled if you have delivery

When you ask him for pictures or copies of the invoice, tell him that you want it by a specific date. The car delivery, again, give him a firm date. You almost come off as a bit too lenient and he seems to be taking full advantage of it.

I'd also suggest you keep all txt msgs between you and him and voice record any conversations with him. You main communication should be over the phone rather than txt. Text msgs are for children. GL with the situation.

Yeah. He said it's between me and him and if I need to rant then just rant to him :stupid: I told him I've been doing that for the last month to him and his fiance and it got me nowhere.

Supposedly there is this attorney that owns this mystical ISF that was impossible to schedule a meeting with, even though supposedly this deal was sealed before he flew down. He supposedly paid this imaginary guy last weekend and was waiting for funds to clear. He said he would call his own bank to see. I said it was a cashier's check, the funds were gone as soon as they handed you the check (if there was ever a check at all). So he said he would call the guy and see if the funds cleared there yet. I said they cleared immediately, the bank probably put a 5 day hold on the funds. So by tomorrow he will have no more excuses.

He and his fiance disregarded any deadlines I gave them. They refuse to answer me when I ask for a refund. He never answers his phone that's why I have to text. He says he will call and never does. I ignore my wife and kids saying I'm expecting an important phone call and he totally blows me off.

He is supposed to email me real proof tonight and call me but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I private messaged his fiance's brother Nakhon Romeo aka Laos Romeo on Facebook as well asking if he could see what is going on since it says he works at the shop and gets cars for people too. He never responded but told Anthony about it and they had a laugh about it together.

Well if he is legit like he says he is then I can leave this thread open and in the end I can say he came through. He has a week to deliver or shyts gonna get real.

I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt but sending me fake pictures of the car, twice? C'mon. I just got off the phone with him. He's going to send me "proof" tonight. I guess I will see if he comes through when I check in the morning.

I told him he needs to finish this thing this week and that I need the car by Friday. He said of course and has a truck reserved already. It will all come out in due time. Instead of concentrating on making it right with me he's driving around LA going to more "meetings" supposedly talking to potential clients to get them cars as well.

He said the attorney's name that is the owner of the car he's supposed to get for me is Justin Howard. There is no attorney in California with that name. If he really did give some Justin Howard my money and he hasn't gotten the car yet then maybe he got scammed as well. But I'm sure it's all BS.

Really the best thing you can do is just let him know that you are going to the police, and then do it. I'm sure the VPD will be more than happy to help, plus if he is already known to police (which from the sounds of things is fairly likely...) they will be happy to have one more reason to investigate him. You have nothing to lose by going to the police, so stop wasting time, just get that police report filled out and let the police take it from there. It's amazing what so much as one phone call from the police will do to get things going.

If he doesn't have any criminal record then he's not going to get any jail time at all for a first time fraud offence, even if it is 40K.

More than likely judge will order him to repay the money (over an agreed upon period of time) and put him on probation. If he fails to pay, then he'd get jail time, but even then it won't be very long.

Judging from what I've read in this thread the guy would most likely have a record regarding fraud

If he doesn't have any criminal record then he's not going to get any jail time at all for a first time fraud offence, even if it is 40K.

More than likely judge will order him to repay the money (over an agreed upon period of time) and put him on probation. If he fails to pay, then he'd get jail time, but even then it won't be very long.
Just try to do everything yourself. Don't rely on the justice system

i doubt he will even have to pay it back. my brother had 24 counts of fraud over 5000 and all he got was 40 hours of community service and did not have to repay his victims.He did his hours at the foodbank by hiding iside boxers and crates. . He had a record but got a pardon after 5 years it happened. now he's working as a teacher in the VSB.

Our justice system sucks when it comes to non violent crimes. he'll just get a slap in the wrist.

lol yeah it was collecting dust in the garage since I have 2 kids and no time to enjoy it. It took me 6 years to pay it off and it held its value really well, actually went up in value, so it's not like I had $40K just sitting there to blow.

So I had Anthony's cousin over tonight and texted him to call me asap but he said his mom was on the phone bitching him out about this thread and how ashamed she was. I called him anyway and when he picked up I let his cousin respond and do the talking. It was priceless.
