Damn ....... missing enzymes and proteins maybe?.... poor kid that's so hurt the best thing in life is food and sex and his missing on 75% of his life.. not gonna get laid with that problem.. -tear
but overall that condition is definately depressing i mean its only a matter of time before he gets older and realizes the reality of his life
Not depressing at all to me. Kids growing up (or just dying) in third world countries in today's day and age without adequate food where "eating is a privilege" makes me quite despondent. This on the other hand, seeing somebody who is able to live a semi-normal life despite a rare condition like that makes me feel quite upbeat and happy. The reality of his life is that medical science and treatment have already advanced to the point that he's able to receive nutrition from a compact enough source that he's not basically confined to a hospital bed and completely unable to enjoy his childhood (which he sure appears to be doing now).

you make a very valid argument. nonetheless, kaleb suffers from a terrible illness that prevents him from enjoying one of the greatest aspects of life. i sincerely hope that a cure will be discovered for this young man.

True, luckily for him it's a question of perspective. It's hard to miss out on something that you have never done, and never will do. For example it's more than possible to be blind and still live a very fulfilling life, exhibit A:
When you think about 200,000 years or so of humankind, that if Kaleb were born even 40 years ago, his childhood would have been a very different experience. Pretty lucky when you think about it. In another article I read about him his doctors said that they were hopeful that he would be able to eat more food in the future, and hopefully a full diagnosis leads to a cure for him at some point.
Anyways reading this reminded me of an article from a few years ago about a child with eosinophilic enteropathy who is also allergic to just about all goods (another neat read): http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/21246628/

he's still young its possible he may recover naturally.... my cousin had serious allergies when he was young and after he reached about 12-13... it slowly went away.
^ he can probably still get laid with that problem, sex doesnt involve eating
Ummm... You sure about that?

The main difference is that those starving kids are surrounded by other starving people. This kid has to watch other people eat all the time while he chews on his ice cubes.

Are u serious.. you rather starve than watch people eat? I rather chew on ice cubes and be full than starve and not know when your next meal is coming.
I don't find it that big of a deal honestly...
i feel worse for a lot of other people out there
I'd rather not be able to eat than be blind or deaf or armless or legless or not able to fuck..
Look on the bright side, you'll never have to ask a girl to dinner and pay for dinner. and when girls ask you to eat by accident, you can pretend to get all emo and they will feel sorry for you and sleep with you.
Is that what I said? NO. This has nothing to do with ME.
My only point was that he's different in his society, where as those starving kids in Africa or wherever are ALL the same within their comminities. Obviously he's getting enough nutrition from the bags but he always has to watch other people eat whatever they want. Unlike someone born blind or deaf, he knows what certain things tastes like but can't enjoy them.
