I wanna take her to a nice restaurant in downtown.. something upscale but not too costly.. <$20 a plate would be nice.. kinda broke right now or I would go all out.. anyways any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
upscale restaurant less than $20 / plate.
hmmmm... try stepho's. not so upscale. but good food and environment. get the 1/2 litre premium wine. its really good.

Joeys Tomatoe would be my no.1 vote

i use to work @ Cats social house (renamed from Cats meow)
that place has pretty decent food and the majority of it is like<25$
but yeah, what all those guys said.. <20 doesnt leave you with alot of choices in DOWNTOWN especially :/ Try cats social house, you'll like it :)
ps: pad thai is pretty tasty there ;)

Stonegrill, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere and service is impeccable as well.
I'd rather have my steak fully prepared to eat instead of paying 50 bucks for a hunk of red meat to cook myself.
economical dining downtown i'd choose Guu. Its a cool experience and the food is good.
fine dining i'd go for Joe Forte's

Dont do stonegrill.. it blows (bland/plain)
Overpriced like mad.
Chambar is good.. it might be slightly over your budget though?.. only by a few dollars
If you want more privacy, smaller, outside downtown place
Crave is a pretty good hole in the wall restaurant.

I recently tried Bin 941 on Davie. It was different from your typical cactus club/milestones/joeys/chained restaurant.
The food was pretty good. All the entrees are $17 each and they are meant to be shared amongst a small group (e.g. 2 people is perfect). The seating is very close and tight, so you and your gf don't need to chat from a mile away like joeys.
Me and my gf ordered 2 tapas (entrees) and 1 appy, it only came up to about $50.
Wait till Majin reads this...haha
hes not the only one cringing at that comment.
if op said 10 bucks i might recommend stephos

you could always take her to bridges.. and just eat at the lower level instead of the upstairs dining room.
i would suggest a chain restaurant if your budget is about 20 per plate....
or you could go out and buy food then cook her a romantic dinner...think thoughtfull

less than $20 , is it possible to get a steak or seafood entree under that price at a sit-down restaurant? I think even white spot or boston pizza charges more than 20 for a steak.
Why not bring her to like steveston and have fish and chips on the patio restaurants, that would be nice and under 20

Stonegrill, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere and service is impeccable as well.
Why would you pay high dolllar to cook your own food?,, service wasnt even that good. The only cool thing is a stone to cook your meat, looks good on paper but in reality, not so much.
Are you by any chance affiliated with stone grill :P service was not impeccable for my dining

holy falkkk anyone mentions stonegrill and doesn't read the previous reviews and thinks it's still a good idea to go there i'm going to kill them hahahahah
Check out these places below
Nothing on the menu is above 20 bucks, maybe the steak and salmon is 21 I think, but be a man, take a girl out to these unique restaurants and make it special.
Abigail's Party: 1651-1699 Yew St, Vancouver, BC V6K 3E6 (604) 739-4677
pied-a-terre-bistro : 3369 Cambie Street Vancouver, BC V5Z 2W6
tel: 604.873.3131
small little place, but the food speak for itself. it's 20+ so .... something to think about but decent food. it's unique it'll surprise your gf. Don't you just had it when all of your gf's friend talk smack at the places you have taken them.
ur gf: oh my bf took me to ABC restaurant for dinner
fat bitch friend of your gf: "oh, that place is so cheap, ur bf took u there, i had the blah blah blah... i would never go back, you bf is so mehhh"

Marcello's on commercial drive.
Best sit down place for pizza. Also serves pasta, and meat dishes. Good atmosphere, not too loud, not too quiet.
Order a pizza and plate of pasta for the two of you with a glass of red wine, and top it off with tiramisu.

LOL, first he said cheap place, then after reading some replies, he wanted to consider an upscale place. Fine I am an easily-impressed guy LOL, I tried Stonegrill once and I was just amazed. :o

I can't believe Stonegrill is still in business. The only thing good about them is the view.
You didn't list any cuisines that she likes to list places.
I've always liked places like Azia, Bin 941 & Charm. They're not upscale places, but they are nice enough with good food.

Depending on your timeline, stalk the groupon, living social, etc coupon sites for deals. Some ok restaurants have come up there.
If not, letsgofordinner.com and pick a restaurant there. The $15 membership fee is worth it to get 50% off, but if you're too broke, then do the 40% off thing. That'll give you about $65 worth of buying power at a restaurant. I recommend bistro pastis.

thumbs down for Stone Grill. For some reason I can't fail the user that said Stone Grill was good!
I went there twice. Both times were poor. I went there the second time just to reaffirm that the place was shitty and that it wasn't just a fluke on my first visit. But yep, same shit you cook on a piece of hot stone. Bad service, tasteless food and overly priced.
Somewhere with a great view?
In this case, the atmosphere is more important than the food. Somewhere quiet with a million dollar view. You make the night memorable for her. Nothing can beat that combination.

did you fried all your tastebuds by killing them drinking a cup of boiling cooking oil? Or a glass of industrial alcohol??
Because stonegrill tastes like shit, portion is a joke and hella overpriced.
