| Owned: ‘Wicked’ janitor who framed boss on child porn allegations jailed for 12 years ‘Wicked’ janitor who framed boss on child porn allegations jailed for 12 years Quote:
An assistant school caretaker who planted child porn on his boss's computer to get him sacked has been jailed for 12 years.
Neil Weiner, 39, framed married 61-year-old Edward Thompson in the hope of getting a promotion and a higher wage. The plot led to Mr Thompson's arrest and his face being splashed on the front of his local newspaper in east London. He was spat and in the street, forced out of his home and continues to be shunned even now the truth has emerged.
Weiner was convicted of perverting the course of justice and two counts of possessing child porn after a trial at the Old Bailey. Judge David Paget QC said: "What you did to a decent and honest man was in my view wicked. It is difficult to imagine a more cunning, deceitful or warped course of conduct or a more malicious one.
"You attempted to get Edward Thompson a wholly innocent man dismissed from his employment as a school caretaker and get him prosecuted by putting indecent photos of children on his computer. You very nearly succeeded. It was 18 months before he was exonerated by a thorough police investigation.
"You gratuitously informed the local press so that he and his wife suffered the distress of the unwelcome publicity that followed. I am wholly satisfied that Mr Thompson is innocent. I can only hope my sentencing remarks will receive wide publicity in the area where he lived and restore his reputation."
The judge added: "Your reason seems to have been simply that you didn't like him. Your deliberate course of conduct, pursued over six months, has ruined the life of Edward Thompson and his wife but you have also ruined your own life and very possible the lives of your wife and children - simply because you found Edward Thompson a difficult man to work for."
The court heard Mr Thompson had worked at Swanlea secondary school in Whitechapel, east London, since 1993. He was painted in court as a real-life version of 'Mr Griffiths' the bad tempered school caretaker played by George A Cooper in BBC's long-running children's drama Grange Hill.
The Scot admitted: "I have a reputation of being exceedingly grumpy, bad tempered and irascible and I admit that is what I am."
Evil plan
Weiner started at the school in 2005 and had only been there for a year when he came up with his plan to get rid of his boss. In June 2006, at a barbecue with friends, he told former mistress Sandra Godfrey and friend Susan James that he was going to download child porn on to a CD and then place it on Mr Thompson's computer.
He was known at the school to be a "computer wizard" and had managed to find out Mr Thompson's password while helping him out with his computer. Prosecutor Richard Milne said: "Weiner planted child porn, indecent images, of almost the highest serious nature on his computer for no better reason than to get him sacked so that he, Weiner, could get promotion."
On July 31, 2006 police received an anonymous phone call claiming Mr Thompson was involved in the distribution of indecent images. A month later officers at Limehouse police station, east London, received a CD and hand-written note sent from Chelmsford which suggested the images had been found on a computer.
This was then followed up in October by a phone call from a man known as 'Steve' who gave Mr Thompson's name and personal details and his position at the primary school. Mr Thompson was stunned when a 'posse of coppers' turned up on his doorstep to arrest him. His home was searched and 234 images were found on his laptop.
He said: "I got the fright of my life when they told me there were many hundreds of images on the computer." In January 2007 Weiner tipped off the local paper, the East London Advertiser, and the story was splashed on the front page. Mr Thompson had to then wait eight months before being informed no further action would be taken against him and he was allowed to return to work.
Forced out his home
In a statement about the effects on his life, Mr Thompson wrote: "My wife and I have had to suffer the indignity of being forced out of our house. Because of the article in the local paper my good name was besmirched and I have been recognised many times whilst walking in the street, to the embarrassment and emotional hurt of my wife and myself.
"But we were most offended by the disgusting act of being spat at in the street on several occasions. My life and good name was nearly destroyed by a villain, who tried to destroy my reputation in such a monstrous manner. Now that the truth has come out, perhaps my wife and I can have closure on this dreadful episode of our life."

Wow, he definitely deserved what he got. His actions forced the man's family out of their home. Terrible.

His reputation will never be fully restored. Unfortunately society remembers more bad then good and news of bad spreads more rapidly then news of good.
