Anyone going to see the movie? Some of the early reviewers have been giving it a pretty good rating.

I won't be seeing it week one but I'll eventually get around to it.
apparently its not even the real story of facebook. only like 10 percent is true, the rest was just made up for it to sell.

^ Usually that's the case with many movies that claim to be based on a true story,
or something like that.
Nobody's lives are really that interesting. Hollywood always steps in to spice it up.

Then again, the people in the story have been trying to discredit the book forever.. So who really knows ;)
All I know is, David Fincher is one of my favourite directors, and of course one of my favourite musicians is doing the soundtrack, so I am really looking forward to it.

i heard that Zuckerberg? was like from a rich family and he just heard about the idea from a classmate and offered to be the financial backer with family members that could help with the technical side?
either way its not like it was revolutionary... people are acting like similar sites didn't exist
the public (spurred on by the media/govt) and media has just latched onto the site
I like Jesse Eisenberg though (wow so many jews :P ) so i'll probably download it

Asianavenue, Apartment107 etc LOL
i think facebook is pretty unique..it's really become more than a blog/personal page unlike geocities, myspace, AA, xanga and people give way more personal info on it.
i remember xanga used to have trackers to see who's been lurking your page..i kind of like how facebook doesn't have that.
im still going to watch it. lol.

lol you think people use Facebook because of the media and government?
if you read up about it the popularity is perpetuated by media sensationalism due to the cia (who funds facebook)
obviously its just 1 factor of it; there are many factors in popularity after all

At first I kinda of dismissed this movie as a stupid facebook origin story that sensationalized it to the nth degree. But as I read more into it, I find it is more of a personal human story about isolation and betrayal, with facebook added in as a plot device rather than the focus. I just wish they focused more on this topic rather than the social network creation side of it in the trailers and ads.

i remember about 4 years ago everyone started using facebook, i was like "it's just another one of those sites". but there are so many reasons that made it successful. there's no music in the background, no custom design pages, it's plain, ppl can't see your page unless you add them and a bunch of news on the front page. that's a deadly combo, and when you think of it should be common sense. basically it screams, not for kids.

To me, friendster and facebook are totally different.
Friendster was limited and when the society was on a information high, friendster was still staggering trying to expand.
Facebook gave a place for people to update their status and then sharing links, youtube videos, articles and then it moved along with ads placements. Do I even need to remind you all on the farmville and whatever shit you can do on facebook. People are craving for new things, and facebook did just that. Every 6 months to a year, there's a new overhaul while every month, you get a new game.
Lastly, having newsfeed made it possible for people to get updates on people. My question is, how much more 'new shit' can Apple come up with, how many more things can Facebook come up with and will Twitter take over.

Ya but all the stuff you mentioned about above came out after Facebook was already became popular. It was quite popular already during the times when the status updates were still limited to "bob is: doing something something".
I think what differentiated it from Friendster was tagging people in pictures and having a wall. Friendster did have a wall-like feature but it was called testimonials so people weren't using it to communicate with each other and such.
I remember people referred to it as a stalker website because it tells you everything a person is doing and who they are talking to, etc.

I've never had a Friendster or myspace account, I was wondering what people's thoughts on those sites are? Facebook compared to Myspace is very clean and organized, with more personal features, I gathered that much. But I've never looked into friendster, which apparently is big in Asia.
On a side note, Google's Orkut is a massive failure in the states in my eyes. The thing is the child of the biggest company on the internet, and they couldn't get people to use it other than in Brazil and India... It's got a history of security leaks, and not the greatest name(opinion). I mean, everyone has a gmail account, or google as there homepage(it's practically equivalent to about: blank with how fast it loads), I'd find it incredibly convenient to have my social network web app sitting right below my search engine text box. Google's gotta work on making all there cloud apps more cross functional.

Just saw today, it was actually a brilliant film, despite all the things people say based on assumptions!
The screenplay was actually pretty amazing, especially the rowing race, and the whole concept of the way the story is laid out is very smart.
As my friend put it, "Everything David Fincher touches turns to gold".
I recommend it!

why did friendster fail & facebook succeeded?
if you read into the history of both companies, they share growth similar stories and is a perfect example of what can happen to a company that takes venture capital money and another trying to do it on its own. Facebook aggressively courted outside capital and Friendster didn't do it until it was too late. With money to grow, Facebook was allowed to add outside expertise and constantly evolve

Well if you notice with Friendster they began heavily laying advertisements into the site as it progressed to get additional revenue. For me it began looking more and more like a cash grab trying to generate more and more revenue.
Lots of different iterations of social sites, myspace, apartment107, friendster, etc
Facebook started with a lot of simplicity and keep growing on that.
Last thoughts... it all started with AA for me..the asian connection..!

The game blew, alien 3 and panic room were ok, and benjamin button was pretty lame. Let's substitute fincher with Nolan. Everything Chris Nolan touches turns to gold.

HAHA AA, those were the days. Anybody remember Blackplanet? It has the exact same layout and everything as AA but of course it was meant for the black community.
Found it borderline boring. The guy who played Mark Zuckerburg was waaay to annoying for me to get into the movie. I'd describe it as a steak that is perfectly grilled and juicy but end up having no taste if that makes sense.

Really the only reason I want to see this film! This man is a brilliant director. Yes, I would most definitely rank Christopher Nolan higher than him, but he wouldn't be trailing too far behind on my ranking.

why did friendster fail & facebook succeeded?
One of the main reasons friendster failed was due to hardware issues, they couldn't handle the amount of users on the system. There were big delays in loading pages and people gave it up on it and we to join other sites like Facebook. Thats one of the reasons why they booted Saverin from the co, he threatened the reliability of the site when he froze the bank account he set up.

I just watch this again today. I saw it in theaters weeks ago.
I forgot how funny it was, especially the twins.
"I'm 6'5", 220 and there's two of me!"
"This building is a 100 years older than the country it's in, so do be careful."
"...we're sitting in chairs..."

I didn't think it was that good..I'd give it a 6.5/10...maybe +.5 cuz eduardo looked good in that movie..
other than that it just made it look like the creator of facebook is an intellectual property thief and a douche
which parts of the movie are true?

i saw it, it wasn't really worth mentioning. it was ok since we all use facebook but i doubt it'll catch on to the other generations esp. when they have no idea.
they adapted it really well and the guy that played he main character did a really good job, the cast was really good IMHO.

jewish guy got jewed. in a way, eduardo didn't really do much to help the company grow, he did just wear fancy clothes and walked around like hes the shit, although he planted the seed (algorithm on window). as much as it hurts, he had to get cut from the company.. which is why you never let your friends work for/with you unless you can put the friendship on the line. in the end, everyone got a cut from facebook.
im guessing eduardo's cut was greater than the twins cut, since it was not-disclosed, meaning they probably gave him more but dont want the twins to ask to have the same

Eduardo got 5% of the company, and his name is listed as one of the co-founders on the site again.

Oh, and that 5% is worth about $1.5 billion in todays crazy world of market valuations.

I can't believe some of you find it boring.
I know there isn't any "action" in it...it's dialogue. Action through dialogue, much like Inglourious Basterds...except that movie had guns and shit happening as well.
Lots of talking but I was never bored or confused.
