My dad had a major heart attack in July requiring a quadruple bypass and 7 weeks in the hospital and at least 6 months off work. My mom had two strokes in the last two weeks and has to get angioplasty this week. They were both told that the major cause was smoking, both have quit after 40 years.
Fubar is awesome, smoking not so much. Heart attack and stroke a couple reasons not to smoke.

Having seen his treatments I do not wish this on anyone. FYI it takes about 10 years to reverse the affects of smoking on your body.

Point? | Point being, nobody looks at a non-smoker and says to themselves "I wouldn't be able to get along with that person, he doesn't smoke".

wow.. some of you have completely missed the point of this video. it was supposed to be a joke, a parody of smokers and canadian rednecks and NOT to be taken seriously
it is obvious that they contradict themselves to nullify each reason, sometimes subtle, sometimes not so subtle. Some of the more obvious examples being:
- they are constantly coughing in the background
- "some people just have money to burn you know" .. hinting at smoking is literally like burning your money and does the opposite effect of saving money
- Dean saying "i could possibly live longer because i smoke" with terry replying "i wouldnt say possibly, id say for sure," while hes coughing in between drags ... all that coughing suggests that thats just completely untrue and in fact, you would die younger
- "thanks to these babies.. because i cant lose because i cant play because my breathing's not too good" .. self-explanatory
although im a smoker myself, i would never recommend it.. this is only a clip involving two characters from the movie FUBAR if noone knew that. Theyre supposed to be huge idiots so dont listen to them. I cant believe any of you would take this seriously.. so for all the self-righteous people out there, this video is a JOKE and not a PSA to start smoking

and for those that have seemed to transcended into a whole new realm of douchebaggery.. *cough*skinnypup*cough*

although i agree the best thing to do is quit, i think what we're missing here is the stats. the gov't of canada always presents you the link between serious health problems and smoking. what they don't tell you is the multiple regression between qty smoked, age, diet, and physical shape.
what about the occasional smoker that smokes 1/4 a pack a day, eats a healthy diet and exercises regularly?
i think this type of person would probably be as healthy as a fit, non-smoking person living in a place with poor air quality (parts of asia, south america, etc). at this low level of smoking, does this mean it's okay to smoke? of course not, but i can imagine it brings the health consequences down to eating a bag of chips everyday or drinking beers with every dinner.
in short, my point is the detriment of smoking is both subjective and relative. however, evidently with our healthcare system, it's in the best interest of the gov't of canada to get you to quit because unless you're the statistical outlier of active, healthy-diet social smokers, then to them, you're a healthcare liability. They don't do these studies. You may find some useful numbers in a research database somewhere. I'd be surprised if smoking isn't researched to death by now. It's a good question to ask someone in the field. Quote:

| Even if diet and exercise negate your cardio-vascular disease risks from smoking, you will still fuck up your lungs. Whether you have problems when you get older from this comes down to luck and how badly damaged your lungs are. The problem is you won't feel it until years down the road.
