: Point Roberts Gas Prices

CP.AR

Since I'm there at least once a week to fill up anyways, I thought that I should create a thread and post the prices up. Hopefully it'll help anyone looking to go down there for gas

I'll mostly be posting Texaco pricing, since they are the cheapest "big company" station there.

October 7th 2010

Reg: US$0.90/L
Plus: $0.92/L
Supreme: $0.94L

Canadian cash price for Reg: CAD 0.98/L

When it comes to Chevron at Pt. Roberts, it doesn't like CIBC VISA cards for some reason.

Just a heads up on that.

I just go there to fill up - I work 15 minutes away from there, and I got a Nexus pass, so it's not that out of my way...

If you guys want me to pick up packages - I'll give it some consideration, since everything has be declared when I cross with Nexus (else one bust = no Nexus forever) Maybe I'll charge a surcharge as well, and then donate that amount to RS.

What exactly does it do? If it asks for a ZIP code, there's an "override" you can try - use 99999 for the ZIP code. Worked for most machines that ask for your ZIP code for security.

Pretty much when you insert the cibc visa card, it will immediately tell you to go inside to see cashier.

I got 4 rims and 4 tires recently and that costed me $34 USD, and they can also accept Canadian.

I assure you that you save more than $6 in gas. 1 full tank for me here is $70. In Blaine, a full tank is roughly $50. Plus, most are going to pick up items from the shipping places so the savings are more.

Sorry guys haven't spent too much time on RS, been studying....

Gas prices for today:

$0.90 Regular
$0.92 89 Oct
$0.94 92 Oct

Cheapest I saw for regular was $0.88/litre at one of the other stations.

After putting some though into it, I don't think I'll be able to pick stuff up for you guys! Sorry!!!

If you're referring to me, I work in Delta, about 15 minutes away from Point Roberts. so why not?
Premium gas is a bitch, I save a good $15-20 on a full tank

65L at ~$1.25/L in Canada = ~$80.00
65L at ~$0.94/L in the States = ~$60.00

Yeah, I wonder what's going on. I went down to Blaine last Friday after work. Took a good 30 mins in the NEXUS lane at the truck crossing which is really unusual for NEXUS.

I filled up @ $3.49/gallon for premium in Bellingham. (at the Shell across from Bellis Fair) That works out to about $0.94CDN which seems to be the same as Pt Roberts.

WA state has a mandate that 2.5% of gas sales must be "bio-diesels". All the pumps I've seen in the border areas are all "up to" 10% ethanol. It looks like it's been this way since 2006.

Here's a list of ethanol free gas stations in WA: http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=WA

Looks like the closest to the border is the Conoco in Burlington.

I go to Texaco - which uses Chevron gas (since texaco is owned by Chevron), hell it's even got the "with Techron" label on their pumps!

The "pricyness" of the the 3 big stations are as follows (from most to least)
Shell -> Chevron -> Texaco.

I think it has to do with their location more than anything though... Shell is the closest to the border while Texaco is the furthest.

Depends on your tank size and which part of Vancouver. If right by Oak street bridge, you're still a good 30km away. So that is 60km round trip.

I live in Richmond. Depending on the car I bring down. I save from $15-25 per tank x that by everyweek.

Also depends on what time you go. I usually go after midnite. So no traffic at all. But if you were to go in the afternoon. You'll spend time idling at the boarder wasting gas.

i've brought 40L of gas through (2 jerry cans were 40L) plus my full tank of gas and they didn't care. mind you they pretty much know me now since i go at least once a week. i drive a gas guzzler and i live a few hundred feet from the boarder so it makes sense for me to go to PR to get gas. but if you live in vancouver probably not. plus boarder traffic can suck big time, i left for work this morning and the line up was already in front of my driveway. tip: go at night.

oh and as far as i know you don't get taxed on groceries. my parents go to bellingham a lot and they always bring groceries back with them (they LOVE trader joes) and they havent been taxed. and it's not like they're not declaring them or anything like that

i went weekly for years, i never was bothered by the border guards(had been "random search"they didn't bother me), and i was at first name basis with a couple, one imported my car, and then his traniee got to know me so they just passed me thru.

and on the american side, the border guard is my neighbour at my townhome in blaine. so again, i get wavied thru i probably should of applied for nexus, but the times i went i never waited more than 10 minutes both ways.

That is correct.

Gas inside your car's gas tank is non taxable.

Gas inside portable containers IS taxable, and subject to a fairly high rate of duty as well.

I don't believe there is any tax exemption on groceries... they fall into the amount of your personal exemption if you have been away for a certain amount of time.

I don't believe there is any tax exemption on groceries... they fall into the amount of your personal exemption if you have been away for a certain amount of time.

Since majority of grocery/food items are non-taxable in Canada anyways, there's no issues bringing them in from the US, even say $500 worth of groceries in a 3 hour trip. So there is no special exemption amount for groceries, they are just exempt generally.

There are limits on how much meat each person can bring in, and no fruits and vegetables can come back into Canada I believe. We always bring back dairy, eggs, since it is literally half the price of what it is here when it is full priced in the US. And a roast chicken from US Costco, that stuff is money :)

Candy and soft drinks would be taxable. (as they already are here). Meat max is 20kg.

Point Roberts lineups go on a daily cycle. Basically if you go during rush hour - it will be rush hour there.

Fridays after work (around 4-5PM) is a big no-no, as even in my Nexus lane I wait a good 10 minutes+)

Best time to go is anyday during the mid morning (10-11AM) or mid afternoon (2-3PM)

There's a bunch of parcel/shipping places, a hardware store, 2 banks, a bar, a marina, a handful of gas stations, a supermarket, and some bed & breakfast style places.

Just got back! Chevron only has regular at the moment so I went to Texaco where the 92 was 1.22. Not sure what regular was.

Just go to the Texaco all the time, same gas as Chevron but it's a little cheaper!

I save about $20 each trip on my 50L tank filling premium. I also fill 25L on my jerry can.
I say it's worth it

I have only filled with 2 Gas Station in PR, Chevron / USA (Next to Chevron)

I feel like I ran out of gas really quick when I fill up at Chevron.

However, when I fill up at USA, it last really long.

Anyone notice?

just went down tonight. didn't bring jerry cans. price is 121.5 or somewhere in that rough ballpark at chevron

funny story, the border patrol on our side (a female too) asked me as she handed me back my passports - "is this the genesis?"

was pretty surprised

$4.119 / gallon at US Gas in Sumas. Not that this should be in the Point Roberts Gase Price thread, LOL.
